Wes Tender Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 A good shout SR. Pardew is gone and nothing that a moronic element of the Northam can do will get him back. You are absolutely right that we do not know the circumstances of his dismissal, so to make any sort of judgement on it and apportion blame is just plain stupid. The team will also have been distracted by it all and need us to get behind them instead of distracting them further with chants that do nothing to urge them on. If our support can do something positive and help us gain 3 points, that will steady the ship and restore some confidence.
saint lard Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 Tbh,i think most of the vitriol towards Cortese will be put to one side,i'ts been a few days after the event,a few made their point on Tuesday when it was still quite raw. I will do my part from the Itchen,3 points today and things will seem a little better, only a little i might add.

landford.saint Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 Who's betting there's a "one alan pardew" chant from the monkeys in the northam within the first five mins?. I'm one of the monkeys inthe Northam. Tuesday night it was not full of the regulars, but was full of spotty yuffs who are never usually there. The Pardew chant was song in a high fulcetto voice from them. I was not singing and I don't think anyone over 18 (age or emotional age) was. Leslie Charteris Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 NC may have been right, he may have been wrong - I can't make a proper judgement on the facts available publically, so I want events on the pitch today and over the coming weeks turn this week into a small footnote in the history of SFC, it's time to move on. What IS pathetic is the "We hate Pompey" chant at every single Match The Northam may very well be the main area that makes any noise, but Positive chanting in support of the Team on the park is far far better than any chant which has absolutely nothing to do with the Match Yes, Today of all days, we need the POSITIVE SUPPORT of the Northam You HAVE helped turn Matches in the past Do it today for the Club we ALL love

shurlock Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 (edited) No it wont Wilkins certainly thinks it does - his Rochdale preview is preoccupied with the possible fan response. Might be self-serving but even the messiah Pardew was calling for fans not to get on the team's back at the start of the season coz it was translating into our play. About as clever as you ignoring the fact I said I WONT be chanting for Pardew. At the end of the day, I don't agree with it, but if some fans feel they want to chant for him then fair enough really, they can sing what they like. Edit - Actually, I agree with your general point in the first post, the whole ground needs to get behind the lads today. I just find your snobbery towards other fans unbearable. Yes there are mongs that sing stupid and pointless songs but unless you're going to hand out a hyme sheet or move from your keyboard and start your own songs, then I suggest you don't try and attack the vocal support. Oh and if I was being paid thousands of pounds a week and the fans decided to sing about their rivals for a couple of minutes I think I may storm off the pitch and refuse to play, because no other football fans in this country shout about their rivalry during a game. Give it a rest.

doddisalegend Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 The support the team gets comes from whats going on on the pitch if the players give the supporters something to cheer about they will. It's noticable that St Mary's becomes a lot more hostile this season (as compared to last season) if the players aren't doing well on the pitch. It's an old cliche but most fans (of all clubs) only sing when they're winning.

Barry the Badger Posted 4 September, 2010 Share Posted 4 September, 2010 It's an old cliche but most fans (of all clubs) only sing when they're winning. Not neccesarily winning IMO, but if the team are working hard, getting stuck in, and making chances, the fans will respond. If the team are looking lost, backing out of tackles, and nothing is happening, they will generally get nothing back. Occasionally the fans will try and lift a poor performance (often with a very long ongoing OWTS) but in my experience if the team are playing crap no amount of singing will improve them. That said, it wont stop me trying :-)
