Phil Brown on his interview

Mental.

He got Hull into and kept them in the Premiership and at the very least things wouldn't be dull with him as manager. Just like Ian Holloway after his debacle at Leicester I would be happy to give him a chance to show he has learnt from any errors he may have made at the back end of his time at Hull.

I would back Nigel Adkins if he is appointed but I would be utterly underwhelmed by it.

Interesting comment about Les Reed there as a sort of dir ector of football but they call it something else didnt sound quite right. Also think the fact he has spoken about interview shows a lack of judgement. Particularly if he knows anything about N.C. He will not be the next Southampton manager.

this bit I agree with. I dont give a stuff about high profiles . I want someone who will deliver results on the pitch and not F it up off the pitch

'Matt, I adored you as a player, I even bought the Unbelievable Video, I bought your book, but please do not tarnish my memories by slating the club you claim to love. I give you the benefit of the doubt over Pinnacle (fook knows why I should BTW as it almost killed us off) but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep quiet.'

No doubt some will say 'Oh he's right about Cortese' - but the truth? We don't know. Speak as YOU find, not on hearsay...because they were sh1te as well. Pure and Simple.

I think you are right regarding talking about the interview

no no no no no. those who think he would do well, please do some research.

OK; I've done some research. As I posted on another thread, I asked my Hull supporting mate, who has seen many games in their push to the Premier League, what he thought of Brown. His response:

"Would be a great signing in my opinion. Tactically really strong and would bring a great assistant in Brian Horton who knows the lower leagues - no money to really spend so no stupid signings, just a good squad to work with."

An I thoroughly agree with him, I think it would be a great appointment.

What "research" have you done that suggests he would be bad selection for us?

And he talks like Robson Green and Robson Green is a ****.

Indeed, he talks with a Newcastle accent (like Robson Green). But Rob is a family friend and I've always found him (Rob) to be a very modest and charming man - I'll pass on your concerns to him if you have any examples of him being a ****; I'm sure he would be quite upset that he came across like that.

Keep Hull up was an 'accident'. If your remember they didn't win for about 24 games or so. Okay it was in the Premiership with a two-bob squad but you'd have thought he could get a win or two in that time. Not good enough.

how on earth was it an accident....if they had not won for 24 games at the start of the season and finished like they started...would you think any different..?

winning at spurs and arsenal were not good enough....hmmmm ok

taking man U all the way for 90 mins and losing 4-3 at old trafford...yeh, ****e

Was beating Arsenal at the Emirates an accident? Beating Tottenham at WHL an accident? Winning a manager of the month award in the Premier League was some accident too.

I dont share the view on his on field abilities, I think he buys badly, is arrogant , alienates players and loses the respect of the squad. But off the field is where I really suggest looking

Wasn't Brown Allerdyce's assistant at the unattractive route one Bolton? Didn't he have a short unsuccessful reign at Derby? He did win an unlikely promotion at Hull but then signed very expensive overpaid underachievers pretty much bankrupting the club, survived the one season then it all fell apart and was relieved of his duties and replaced by Dowie halfway through last season. No Thanks.

Its his signings that have me down as a non Phil Brown fan.

Spunking what was it, 5 million?, on Bullard. This despite his dodgy knee.

The dressing down of his players on the pitch also seemed bizzare to me.

The Bullard gamble didn't pay off and made him look very daft. But he's a great player and maybe thought that it was worth the risk.

The on-pitch half time talk was a mistake, and I'm pretty sure he's admitted that since.

For every manager you'll be able to point out flaws that they had; all managers have made bad decisions at some point. I just think that, for where we are and where we want to get to, Brown has all the traits needed for the job and is just the man we need to come in and straighten out our under-performing "stars".

many many managers have taken poor clubs up to the top flight and many will continue to do so. often different managers too. brian laws is **** IMO too. but brown got by on one excellent run that took them up despite not being one of the best in the CCC, then saw them have a short run of form in the top flight that kept them up. for the second half of the season, in fact, longer than that, they were so woeful it was embarassing they stayed up. they may have scraped through, but the mess they were in, that form he'd left them in, meant they were already down for the next season, which is exactly what happened.

i don't rate brown's signings, i think he alienated players, i don't like his tactics and think he's a complete tit with a hugely inflated opinion of himself.

Is Brown's "short run of form" that got Hull into the Prem and then kept them there better or worse than Adkin's failure to keep S****horpe in the CCC in his first season there?

Is keeping a team in the Prem a better or worse achievement in your first season at that level than being relegated from the Championship in your first season at that level?

Not sure the Hull fans are thinking that. 45k a week, for a bloke who basiclly has 1 knee is suicidal for a club of their size.

Bradford and Carbone spring to mind

Fair do's!! I'll mention it next time I talk to him and pass back his reaction (not seen the series myself)!

But your logic is still skewed - (extreme examples) would we reject Mourinho because he has a similar accent to Salazar? Or Fabio Capello because he sounds like Benito Mussolini (granted, he could get the trains to run on time, though)?

I too would be underwhelmed with Phil Brown, but not because of his accent!

Whay-aye, pet; I'm ganning doon the Scotswood Road etc !

The fact that Phil Brown is spending so much time talking in the press would suggest to me that either he hasn't got the job or he's now doing a damn good job of ruling himself out - after all we know how NC likes to run the information coming out tighter than a ducks wotsit so he isn't exactly being shy with the media at the moment.

And for that, I am thankful because I don't want him anywhere near looking after Saints.

Plus re MLT on Talksport earlier today - I didn't hear it but I gather he was in Cortese bashing mode again. Why would anyone want to manage Saints? Please give it a break Matt - you are a legend but you are doing yourself no favours right now (whether you're right or wrong).

Can't imagine browns interviews are going to get him anywhere near the hot seat. NC likes to keep things private and brown is going round telling everyone he has had an interview and how much he wants the job.

If that didn't come across in the interview then it won't come across any better in the press.

Nice to hear positive talk about us though. I hope he doesn't come back later with a slating for not being offered the job. ;o)

See, we are still big and important.

Phil Brown showing that he is still somebody who can be interviewed by a real football club

So that he gets at least the chance to get a real job with Accrington, Hartlepool or someobody

Nice bit of self marketing, leveraged the relationship with us, knew he didn't actually have a hope of getting the job so did the marketing early.

May be a twit but he isn't thick
