Also if we were then we would not have had in excess of 30 applicants, so remind me why can't you wear Saints colours in public?

TBF the issue about the photography at SMS is making us a laughing stock. Most of my mates at work have commented on The Sun refusing to name us in tables / fixture lists, the Plymouth Roy of the Rovers thing, and the Swindon Subbuteo stunt. I agree the photography policy is somewhat bizarre and has led to some humour, hardly laughing stock material tough.

No they didn't, right at the end Roger Johnson said something like 'you know what, it wouldn't surprise me if it was Alan Shearer'. It was just a throwaway line from a tv reporter. He might have also used the word longshot but I can't remember precisely.

The anchor actually said that Alan Shearer had said 'that he had asked to be considered for the job'. It was no throw away line. It may or may not have been true, but it was reported as fact. They said "We understand that Alan Shearer would like the job" or something like that. I didn't watch the 6.30 one so can't comment on that though. derry Posted 9 September, 2010 Share Posted 9 September, 2010 He may well have done - I was just telling you what they reported at 10.30 last night. Covering all the bases like we are doing at the moment there is some real crap reporting. SSN is still headlining Adkins staying, SFC have withdrawn the offer but later denied this. Yet we know from newsnow/BBC Humberside that Adkins wants the job and the clubs are still talking.
Clifford Nelson Posted 9 September, 2010 Share Posted 9 September, 2010 And we would have known nothing of this if it wasn't for Wharton blabbering to the papers. I can't see that this was warranted. However, I can also hear from the Adkins interview, judging from all the repetitions, that we are talking about a few very fired people who slept little or not at all last night. I would have thought that people in exalted positions (chairman Scunny?) had the good sense of not making public statements in those circumstances, unless they are agreed. It's a terrible mess, but sifting through what we do know, and judging from Adkins personal comments, it doesn't seem that NC has done anything wrong. Why anybody would like a completely unproven manager in Shearer, I can't understand.

With regard to our approach being proper and above board Adkins says as much in his interview. I think he will be a Southampton Manager by tomorrow latest. Clifford Nelson Posted 9 September, 2010 Share Posted 9 September, 2010 I would hope so, Ron, regardless of the compensation issue, since I don't think he will have been too impressed by his chairman's behaviour.

In a way Ron/Bert I can understand S****horpe wanting a decent figure in compensation. Bearing in mind we paid £400k for Hammond this is small beer when talking about somebody as important as a manager especially one as good as this one. I think both Cortese and Adkins have behaved ok but the sieve that is the S****horpe chairman is the problem.
yorkiesaint Posted 9 September, 2010 Share Posted 9 September, 2010 The issue is how much Adkins wants the job, is it enough that he is prepared to force the issue with Wharton? If not, then is he really the man for us?
