1976_Child Posted 15 September, 2010 Share Posted 15 September, 2010 No Papa, no Antonio sums it up. This team of ours is lacking something. There is no catalyst. Every team needs a spark. Look at how Albion fared at the w/e with Lua-lua and his magic jumping summersault. Razz-ma-tazz, call it arrogant or what ever but it lifts the whole team. When Papa was introduced to us last season, before he had his license he came out wearing a sharp suit, ran over to the Northam and signed a few kids' programs and then did his little African Hunter dance. You just knew that he was going to be a spark both on and off the field. Sparks like that need to be well shepherded so as to not spike the dough, but with out that yeast the dough never becomes the bread. We need sparkle and a bit of arrogance. Lambert is not there, he is good but not a natural razz-ma-tazz player. He is solid, as is Lalana, but we need real sparkle and a bit of real arrogant belief. buctootim Posted 15 September, 2010 Share Posted 15 September, 2010 We need sparkle and creativity - but we also need a bit of mental toughness and controlled agression. IMO thats why successive managers have held on to Wotton - not technically the best, but he has at least some bite to him.
S-Clarke Posted 15 September, 2010 Share Posted 15 September, 2010 Absolutely agree. We're lacking that ''something'' at the moment, just a bit of magic to unlock the back door. I still think we've got the players in our team to do that (they did it consistently last season) but we're totally unfit and off form. I think the only solution is to get some temporary loans in, shake it up a bit and hopefully we'll start flowing again. I can't see it happening at the moment with the current bunch as they're in a complete rut.
The Kraken Posted 15 September, 2010 Share Posted 15 September, 2010 We need our players to stop shirking responsibility and step up to the plate. Less talk on the OS, more talk on the pitch.

SNSUN Posted 15 September, 2010 Share Posted 15 September, 2010 These players, 'the best in the League', are clearly not in the right frame of mind at present. I wonder if Liebherr's passing had anything to do with it? Lambert and Fonte, perhaps our key players, are out of form, and we have little creativity in midfield. What is Hammond? Granted he's a central midfielder, but is he attacking or defensive? From what I've seen of him, I'm still not sure. We're all frustrated at present, but I have confidence in Adkins to sort it out. ART Posted 15 September, 2010 Share Posted 15 September, 2010 We're lacking Alan Pardew. He was the catalyst and got HIS players playing. I can't see any change until we bring in new blood and sadly ship out Pardew's men. You can say what you like they are loyal to their benefactor. Even under Pardew they misfired inexplicably in some games. Surely we cant be so dependent on Lallana that the whole team fails to fire with him absent. It's all very flat and predictable. I think there was also a huge over reliance on Rickie to score another 30 plus goals again. Now no goals at all - that's why we're virtually bottom of the league - no goals in 4, 6 blanks from 9, 3 all season if you don't iclude BR away. There's the problem..... St Landrew Posted 15 September, 2010 Share Posted 15 September, 2010 (edited) Don't think it's a post-Pardew moment. We've lost our unpredictability. People used to go on about Antonio being that much more dangerous than Puncheon, and I'll admit, I didn't get it. But I do now. They're both skilled, but Antonio had a certain something. And Papa Waigo needs to get back here pronto. Bloody hell, do we miss his running off the ball, speed and unpredictability. Connolly hasn't been a replacement, despite his fitness and running. Speaks for itself IMO and for once I am in agreement with Alpine. What I am not so sure about is why that is so. Is it because AP was the glue that held the team together or is it something else, like AP had the presence to keep other members of staff at bay and away from the 1st team (i.e. Reed). Or something else???
ART Posted 15 September, 2010 Share Posted 15 September, 2010 Have you forgotten that we played games under Dean Wilkins since Pardew got the team winning 4-0 at Bristol?
Saint Fan CaM Posted 15 September, 2010 Share Posted 15 September, 2010 Have you forgotten that we played games under Dean Wilkins since Pardew got the team winning 4-0 at Bristol? Are you suggesting that Wilkins has spoiled the team Art? Perhaps not deliberately, but in a "too many cooks spoil the broth" type of way.
Saint Billy Posted 15 September, 2010 Share Posted 15 September, 2010 (edited) We need a midfield general/playmaker. I dont get this hype about Morgan S, he blows hot and cold for me, although he has potential there are too many stray balls from him and Hammond at this moment in time is positively artic. I dont think it is arrogance we need, we need a few decent players, midfield to cover the above weaknesses and as mentioned on numerous occassions by many, a couple of fast tricky wingers. Hopefully if this is put right then you have the supply line to Lambert sorted and he should start netting goals again. John McGrath's Jockstrap Posted 15 September, 2010 Share Posted 15 September, 2010 We have to face facts. The plus with Antonio was that he had pace with strength and scared defenders.....and knew what he was doing some of the time. Waigo didn't know even know what he was going to do most of the time which scared defenders even more. Add in no Lallana so far = no flair in team at all. Lambert needs flair around him to score. Lambert is still not fit and head not right. Connolly is an AP signing and knows he is now on the arse end of his career. Mix in Barnard out for 3 games...... and we wonder why we aren't scoring goals. The real sense of disappointment is the pre season hype, AP not doing what was need to respond to the Antonio/Waigo loss, and the 125 years.....the fact is that we are a mid table team right noe and Adkins will need Jan + next summer to put it right.....I hope he is up to it.
