He had a bad day.

Doesn't mean he's ****e in the same way that one good match doesn't mean he is brilliant.

Worth pointing out he did pretty well against Owen and Hernandez and there aren't many left-footed centre backs that are good on the ball.

So which is it then?

"Pure class" or "not very good anymore" ?

Its 'Not very good anymore'. DS looks to have reached his level in L1, by which I kean a mid-table L1 side with no prospect of going any further. It wassn't just that he struggled and made mistakes against P'Boro that gave them 2 of their goals but he showed that his instincts are not good enough, his reactions not fast enough.

Whether Adkins agrees will depend on what the coaches see on the training ground as well as how he performs when he gets a game but it will not surprise me if we see less of him in the next few weeks. The ambition of a promotion winning team that would go on to make an impact in the NpC is looking unrealistic as there are too many weak spots in the squad and Seaborne is one of them. If we do get promoition, which looks more than ever as if it will depend on the lottery, I expect Seaborne to go. If we stay down, then maybe another season at this level to see if he can improve.

You can't say Seaborne was our weak link against Posh. Both centre backs struggled when facing our goal which seemed a lot of the time considering how high up the pitch they were playing letting long balls to be put over the top for Mackail-Smith to run on to.

Good player IMO but NA had them playing too far up the pitch.

Spot on,we are playing too far forward, does Fonte really need to go charging forward for every corner and free kick when we're 2-0 up away from home.If the forwards can't do their job get some new ones but we have to stop this gung-ho football or at least when we're winning away from home.

Did you watch a different game? It was so painfully clear that Seaborne was out of his depth, where as Fonte, yet again, not only done everything asked of him, but was constantly having to mop up behind Seaborne. This happens constantly and it really showed when Fonte was suspended and Seaborne played at the back with Radhi, because Radhi wasn't quick enough to get back and cover for Seaborne's mistakes he looked shambolic and we conceded 2 at home.

Of every time I have watched DS, he has had one good game, and one fantastic game. The fantastic game being against United where he did superbly against Owen. However, too often he is out of position, beaten far too easily by his man and gets out muscled & outpaced. He is not good enough by a country mile IMO.

Why after so many years watching football do people still reassess their views of players on a game by game basis?

If I have a productive day in the office, I don't suddenly tell everyone I'm great at my job. I'm rubbish because I'm rubbish 90% of the time.

That's right - just let it all out! ;)

IMO he looks comfortable most games, but again most of those are home games where we have to defend less than 3 opposition attacks all game, or games where long ball is played and he can win the ball easily.

Any game in which the other team gives a good go at attacking or he comes up against a half decent striker he seems to struggle.

Most games?? Seaborne spends half of his time on the bench and is not preferred to Jaidi unless we have a few games in a short space of time or that the opposition have particularly potent and rapid strikers. The manager has to sort this out, look at most really successful sides the centre back pairing is very much a constant.

Sorry I meant most games he features in. And I agree with your point, Jaidi hasn't got much left in the tank so Adkins needs to decide in the summer whether he thinks seaborne is a regular or not.

I still think Dan is a good prospect. He's left footed, has decent pace (McKail-Smith is express and would leave any CB in League One on their backside) and improving distribution. OK, poor game Saturday night and he needs to be less rash in the box - he committed a silly foul of that type at Yeovil that cost us two more points. At Exeter though, our back 4 was turned just as easily with Jaidi and Fonte as CBs so it may be less about personnel and more about shape. The full backs haven't done enough in the last 2 games to stop crosses coming in which isn't Seaborne's fault but Peterborough's strikers are more clinical than Exeter's.
