Turkish Posted 17 February, 2011 Share Posted 17 February, 2011 It's origins go back to the 70's when Chelsea used to travel away, the song harks back to the era when the Shed was one of the largest open terraces in the country, when Chelseas travelling army would vist smaller stadia around the country they would often start the song "Chelseas shed is bigger than this, Chelseas shed is bigger than this, it's got a fence and a scoreboard, Chelseas Shed is bigger than this" Over time and generation of support the words and lyrics were adapted to suit the club concearned and now we have the modern version sung by the modern travelling support. I hope i have helped.

Papa Shango Posted 17 February, 2011 Share Posted 17 February, 2011 It's a **** song, especially when it's sung at places like Selhurst Park and Carrow Road, which aren't much smaller than our ground.

It is a sh*t song, i dont like the song but think it's funny and very patronising to sing "your grounds to big for you" at small clubs like Dagenham and Yeovil. I hope i have helped. I disagree. It was started by a bloke who did indeed have a really big shed. It had a door and a window and was bigger than the stand he was standing in. Simple really. Exactly when and where this shed, or the shed he was standing in was is open to debate.

Badger Posted 17 February, 2011 Share Posted 17 February, 2011 I thought it probably originated with Chelsea. No doubt sung after they got board with "One man went to mow..".

once_bitterne Posted 17 February, 2011 Share Posted 17 February, 2011 I remember this being sung at Kenilworth Rd our first season in the CCC when we were winning 2-1. We lost 3-2. 'We're only here for a season' was also sung too. In fact we lasted 4. (but didn't escape in the direction we were expecting)
RedAndWhite91 Posted 17 February, 2011 Share Posted 17 February, 2011 It was probably started in the 70's, a few fans started to sing it and after the game a load of people wrote in to the local fanzine calling them mongs and saying the song was sh!t, then suddenly the fanzine was inundated with letters from fans claiming that one section of the fan-base never contributed to the atmosphere, then that section of the fan-base wrote in calling the ones that sung it gobby teenage mongs. HTH.
SFKA South Woodford Posted 17 February, 2011 Share Posted 17 February, 2011 I remember Baj starting singing it when a group of us used to attend the Saints reserve and FA youth cup ties in London, I think it was at either at Barnet for a game against the Arse reserves or Dagenham and Redbridge against the West Ham Reserves. I remember the Dagenham game as the Hammers fans looked at us like we were mad for turning up and chanting and the Saints players looked like they thought we were stalking them. The9 Posted 17 February, 2011 Share Posted 17 February, 2011 Anyone singing at reserve matches wants stringing up. And anyone disputing referee's decisions is a relative of one of the players.
Matty's Caddy Posted 17 February, 2011 Share Posted 17 February, 2011 Cardington Lol, I used to work in those a few years back, mighty impressive. My first day at work there was a pea souper and I had to ask a postie where they were, he laughed and said but for the fog you'd have seen them from ten miles away!!! He wasn't wrong! Got the security guard to unlock the dodgey stairs one evening when e eryone had gone home and climbed all the way to the apex, vertigo or what!!! There's a tiny window at the top and you can see for miles. Just thought I'd share that with you

That's a chelsea song ffs! How about "Southampton till I die" then ?????? Not sure if Portsmuff came up up with the original (or whether they just copied someone else), but they certainly sang it before us and therefore I can't bring myself to join in. As for the "shed" song, I've just thought it was cringeworthy.
