Saints may benefit from fewer CCC hotshots

next season.

Glancing at last seasons top scorers in the Championship, I noted that with todays transfer of Graham from Watford to Swansea, we see another top striker leaving the CCC ...and maybe reducing the firepower of those top CCC clubs.

Swansea (already promoted) already have Sinclair among their top goalscorers.

QPRs Taarabat and Helgesson have also gone (up),

along with Holt and Jackson from Norwich.

....of the top scoring CCC strikers only Long (Reading), Bothroyd (Cardiff) and the Leeds pair Becchio and Gradel remain in those strikers who scored over 12 goals .

If Saints strike force can continue their late-season form, the other CCC clubs may well be pushed to find strikers capable of reaching those sort of goal figures.

Noted also that Murray has already departed Brighton, and Machail-Smith seems certain to leave P'Boro.

On the other hand, you have Keane, Cole, Campbell, Ba and Zigic replacing them. The league is much, much tougher than it was last season.

If any more then one of those are actually playing Championship football I would be stunned, particularly as Robbie Keane is already back with Spuds.

not convinced that it is any tougher. Will see when transfer window closes etc.

So the basis of this argument seems to be that due to the lower quality of striker remaining in the nPC there will be far fewer goals scored next season, right ?

Uh ? ..those teams (and their highscoring players) being out of the way, perhaps there may be fewer teams with top grade strikers...

to challenge for top spot. I'm not trying to pretend that no other teams will get goals, or that their strikers won't score.

But... on the assumption that we can take up where we left off ..namely 13 goals in the last 5 games we'll (hopefully) get a good start for once ... instead of the type of fiasco we've had for the last decade or so.

My rational is that I'm glad they (all) aren't still in our divison to boost the strike force for their teams, and that our lads will continue their good form.

Pure conjecture, of course. But if we are mid-table and have only scored 6 goals by the end of September, I'll be wrong . won't I ?

True about Keane but theyve already offered to double Bas wages to get him to stay. Bellamy will also be back.

Last seasons NPC was the easiest to get promoted in years. As it stands now, Saints will do very well to get out of the bottom half of the table.

Also, of those listed, Taarabt is a midfielder and Sinclair is a winger.

WHU>>QPR

Birmingham>>Norwich

Blackpool=Swansea

Does anyone actually think the 3 teams that went up are better than the 3 who came down?

I think that with places for English players in Premiership teams so limited these days the CCC can only be strengthened with up and coming skilled players. So the standard of play in the second tier can only get better each year (imho).
