Saints V Cov. Post match reaction.

Why won't Portaloo change his frigging tactics?! Does he have no others?? All it took was a change to 4-4-2, no response from Jan and Coventry were in. Grrr grumble grumble. At least we scored though.

What would a change to 442 helped?

Its a good point considering the players we had available. If we can get a few of out key players back we will these matches. There are quite a few positives. James played very well both defensively and attacking, Thomson was a threat all match and Euell gave us a bit of body in midfield. Still, even though DMG played well today we need someone to put pressure one him.

I don't mean we necessarily should have changed to a 4-4-2, but Cov were suddenly all over us and Jan didn't react.

Sounded like Thompson had a good game though, good on him. What was the point in bringing BWP on for the last 40 seconds?

Surman had a knock.

But there was actually a reaction, the ref just didn't make the sub in time. The paper for taking off Thomson for Smith had been given before they equalized. Besides, you don't know what orders the players got in terms of tactical changes.

Just got home , really was a repeat of other home games lots of posesssion , even craved Coventry open but no cutting edge.

Defence was better but still prone to silly mistakes and an inability to clear the ball which led to the equalizer.

Have to question Jan's use of subs , 1-1 at home and he brings Peckhart on , i thought great two up front , but no he pulls DMG wide when the lads confidence was up.

Having Skacel and Euell on the pitch obviously helped because we won some 50/50 challenges.

Fair enough if that's the case re: the sub. Any tactical orders given out didn't seem to help though did they? I'm afraid I don't hold Jan very highly at this point in time...he doesn't seem able to make impact changes and his unwillingness to change formations has led to some depressingly predictable finales.

Ah well, a draw is a point in the right direction, and at least we had some shots today!!

Not a bad game really. We certainly didn't slack off. But we just have problem scoring goals. We had our chances. Less than half full at Saint Mary's. We made enough noise though in the Northam end. Coventry were a bag of sh!te and we could - and should - have stuffed them, except we ain't got the talent up front. Too many scuffed, soft shots.

One good thing to come out of my over night stay here in the Premier Inn is that at least I am going to sleep on clean sheets tonight. Must schedule some laundry for sometime before Christmas. Its quite nice really!

Up the saints!

On the bright side - it's a point more than I thought we would get. That said, it's frightening that we now struggle to beat sides such as Coventry at home. I still think we are destined for league 1 unless there is some remarkable turnaround in the very near future.

A point at home to Coventry and some posters are happy????????

How their ambitions have shrunk, eh? We are in total sh!t trouble here. Or i suppose some will say "total football got us a goal". Oh dear oh dear oh dear.

Jesus. Why don't you top yourself then? A point is better than none and sounds like we played reasonably well.

WE ARE NOT GOING TO WIN THE LEAGUE. WE'VE GOT YOUNG PLAYERS. STAYING UP WILL BE A RESULT THIS YEAR.

The only question is whether you'll get busy living or get busy dying.

Only worry for me was that gaps are starting to appear in the Northam as well

yeah, you are right. it was a bit barren. still we made as much noise as we could. Looking at the other three sides of the ground was depressing. Less than half capacity. That will be another £100k lost then. Financially we are stuffed with that level of attendance.

Thats how it sounded on the commentary, four up front as they played route one (prob knowing we are not going to win much in the air at the back)

Jan would be in trouble whatever he did though wouldnt he? - if he pulled more players back and we we ended up defending all the time it would be wrong, if he committed more forward looking for the second goal he would be leaving too much for the defence to do...

in my simple football mind and after 47 years of watching Saints , if you hand the inititive to the away side by not looking for a winner then you are asking for trouble, great victories were won at home in the past by going for it.

no one was expecting gung ho but a simple 4-4-2.

We were better than some of the recent poor performances, but still not that particularly good.

Gaining a point, rather than losing 4-1 was more to do with Coventry playing really poorly IMHO.

Being honest we never really looked like scoring (but had lots of posession), and I couldn't help but think that we would concede.

McGoldrick took his goal well, but didn't really do anything else (but I don't really ask much else from a striker so can't complain).

My MOTM was Euell.

Didn't look too clever defending and failed to clear our lines on a number of occasions before they scored.

Contrary to what someone on here said, I don't think Thompson looked that good at all.

An improvement of sorts, but stil in a real relegation battle. Need to get a point at Preston though.

to be fair UM , Thompson improved as the game went on although he is very light weight and his final ball often went behind the goal, a bit of the Tommy Jenkins about his crossing

Its the difference between radio and watching live I guess. But the fact is he got us quite a few corners, took on his man often and whipped in a few crosses. Plus, maybe because he and not DMG was playing on the right James could have a decent game as well?

After such a promising first half it was a shame we couldn't win the game. McGoldrick scored and after that decided he didn't need to try anymore, idiot as usual. Thompson doesn't seem ready, we need a real winger who can cross but he did improve. Overall its dissapointing, did Clinton Morrison handball it for his goal?

Quite agree. He was all over the pitch tonight. Hope he keeps it up. Strangely, Jimmy Case on Radio Hants said he wasn`t very good and should have been taken off!

Just home, game of missed chances the only thing McG did was score should have had a couple more, if he had tracked back Cov might not have scored. What the hell was JP up to making a sub in the last min when we had free kick just out side Covs box, he has lost the plot thats if he had it in the first place, just to finish Lowe out.

I was just happy to see the Mule back in the team. I put a tenner on him scoring at any time. Never mind. Good to see him back. Also it was good to see Oscar Goben on the bench. I saw him up close at the farnborough pre-season and was very impressed. Hopefully he will get a start soon.

Totally agree. F@cking barking decision. Waiting for the sub to happen killed any forward momentum we had. As for our set pieces in general they are still really poor. I will never understand how corners can be so rubbish. Have one corner taker and get him to bang in 100 into the box every training session. That's what johnny wilkinson does.
