I hate Palace fans and their whole 'ultra' thing, but my word, living the dream tonight and Neville looks like someone has shat on his face.

They organised a march to their game against Millwall last week and arranged a police escort. Yes, they asked for an escort at a HOME game. Absolute noddy club.

Judged on tonight Palace are a threat in the Championship. Very impressed by Clyne at right back (hasn't he been mentioned as a possible signing?) and also Zaha on the left.

Got to be careful with these things. Based on a similar result 4 years ago Michael Mifsud was world class.

Clyne would have been near the top of my list of potential signings at the start of the season, but Frazer's been one of our best players so far. However, if we're on the lookout for a second striker, we couldn't do much better than sign Zaha imo. When he came on in the Carling Cup against us he made our players look like idiots, he's only 18 as well. Sign him up Nige!

And with City v Liverpool in the other semi, then surely either Cardiff or Palace will be in Europe next year. Presuming that City and Liverpool qualify for either Champions League or Europa!

Probably a good thing we didn't get through then I can imagine the whinging on here about the europa cup distracting us from the more important task of Promotion/finishing fourth from bottom of the PL with calls to play the under 21s in europe........

There's no reason for re-writing the past, so why bother. There's also no guarantee that Rickie and Fonte would have constituted a win, nor that our result would have been anything like Palace's had we eventually got through. Stop beating yourself up over it, none of us really care about the Carling Cup - when you're in first place in the League, the main priority has to be promotion.

Well I'm betting Palace care about it right now. Of course we have no way of knowing how it would have turnned out for us but Palace are one step away from a cup final (with a decent draw) after knocking at Man U are people really saying they wouldn't want that for saints?

I hate the way these days that getting to the PL and avoiding relegation is now considered the pinncle of achievement by most clubs and supporters. Winning trophies and leagues (unless it's astep to the PL) just don't seem important anymore....

Based on our League position? No. There's more important things to concentrate on. Palace have different aims to us this season - and besides, they'll only get tonked in the final if they make it that far anyway. The FA Cup - that's a different kettle of fish, but not the League Cup. Next season, if we make it back to the Premiership, then give it a crack.

The League Cup does need re-vamping though - God knows how, but most managers use it as a chance to blood squad players or youth. Perhaps a better reward at the end of it or better financial incentives.

I honestly don't think we'd have beaten Utd at Old Trafford. At St Mary's, yes I think we would. But not away.

No doubt the Palace fans didn't think that they'd beat United away either. Last season we dominated United for 70 minutes, albeit at home, but then we were in the third division. If Palace are a better team than we are, why aren't they top? Cup competitions are sometimes a bit of a lottery, especially when the big teams underestimate their lower division opposition. I'm not saying that United fielded a weak team, what with the number of Internationals in it, but it certainly wasn't anywhere near their strongest team and what benefited Palace, was that most of the United players were not as used to playing together as the Palace players.

Police wouldn't have allowed it otherwise, nothing to do with whether it was home or away, or the kind of club they are - there are laws on gatherings of certain numbers of people and the last thing you'd want is to organise a march only to be told to disperse before it's started. Seems like a sensible move to me.

I have no problem with Palace aside from the "lobbing stuff at us when we scored in injury time to stay in the Prem for another week at their expense" thing, and even that's pretty understandable.

benefits i can see for us - we have Cardiff at home 31st December, they'll be playing extra games that month with the semi final over 2 legs, plus there are FA Cup games so see how they pan out. hopefully they pick up some injuries and suspesions and drop a few points helping us get a gap away from 3rd .

Except we won't becuase we will nedd to concentrate on not getting relegated. Like I said the pinncle of achievment for most football clubs (outside the top 4-5) these days seems to be get to the PL and don't get relegated.... any thing else is just seen as a distraction...
