Well well well, looks like Clive wants to return to Football....

Hmmm..wonder where he will end up eh??

Rugby union World Cup-winning coach Sir Clive Woodward - a one-time director of football at Southampton - says he would love another shot at working in football but would like to be a manager this time. (Daily Mail)

Rupey's mate at the Mail setting the scene?

Wait, watch and see it happen.

Let's see, when Woodward was here we were ahead of the rest of football with the sports science techniques he was introducing, but because they were not achieving instant results the vocal few derided him. Now we see that Chelsea amongst others are using the very same techniques that SCW introduced, obviously having the players helps but surely using anything and everything is better than slagging every new thing off? Or is it because he's mates with RL?

Hmmm let's see...

When Woodward was here before we were paying him an extortinate amount of money, which in turn contributed to backroom shenanigans that cost us our Premiership Status, and mucked up the chance we had to return to the Prem whilst in receipt of Parachute Payments.

Which in turn brought us to today, where we stand on the precipice of Administration.

Yeah right, it's all about him being Rupert's mate - whatever justifies your view eh?

Of course, Rupey never blames anyone does he??? Not even his Boardroom 'Colleague', who overaw the spending eh?

Do you still think that Pearson was more expensive than Poortvliet, Wotte and Gorre combined?

See that the 'Rupey Mugs' are still about....

I agree with a lot of what you write, but someone's going to say it so it may as well be me.

Woodward didn't join the club until after we were relegated.

Woodward is an aresehole who is touting for work wherever he can get it. Another piece in a national newspaper has an 'insider' saying he would take over as Rugby supremo from Rob Andrew. Desparate, you bet.

If he was so great, people would be going to him. He wouldn't have to be using newspapers to find work.

I hope he comes nowhere near our club.

Does this just fit your agenda? I mean you do have conclusive proof that he has been contacting newspapers looking for work and not newspaper journo's using his name to manufacturer column inches, don't you?

I don't have an agenda. This is only an internet messageboard. Stop taking it so seriously, and jumping on anyone who has different views from yourself.

Your agenda was to paint SCW as someone touting work through newspapers. You should have said it was only your opinion and that you actually cannot back it up. That way it could have just floated by as b*ll*cks.

Oh, and I didn't have a view, I merely questioned the merits of yours.

SCW is performance director of the British Olympic Association so he is not out of work.

However if he would like to take Rob Andrew's place I would be more than happy

This article scares me a bit. Was about to post myself but you beat me to it.

Ok, it may not effect us but I don’t think I’d be alone in feeling a little bit uneasy (from past history and Lowe’s point blank refusal to listen to any professional opinion regarding his revolutionary ideas!)

The Telegraph writes: ‘With English rugby seemingly going backwards, Woodward has been linked with a return to Twickenham. However, Britain's Deputy Chef de Mission in Beijing insists he is still fascinated by football and desperate for another chance.’

"Contrary to what's been said I really enjoyed my time at Southampton and learned a lot," Woodward told the Daily Mail.

SCW continues - "But I need to be the manager and I think I will have some offers from the lower divisions. If not, I will take a rugby job."

WHAT? Lower divisions…an offer may be forthcoming?! What does he know that we don’t?! An offer – What, from a Division 1 football club? Maybe a young team could be a model, fallen from grace and needing some revolutionary new approach?! (more so than appointing Dutch football men!) Hmmmmmm???? Saints by any chance? Certainly made me wonder!

I can’t help but feel cynical about this article. Stranger things have happened under the dubious reign of Rupert ‘Revolutionary’ Lowe.

At last thanks GM, someone who shares my concern instead of simply trying to divert attention from it.

Hands up time, I appreciate and stand corrected that Woodward came after relegation, but without rehashing numerous old threads on the subject, it was well known on here that there was speculation that he was on his way well before our first year in the CCC.

My concern here is twofold - firstly, Lowe COULD (and probably will) try and engineer a return for SCW - I have no qualms about SCW as a person, but surely such a move is AGAIN more about RL's revenge against anyone who questioned him......

and....where would the money come from to pay him? Would Lowe give up his own salary to fund SCW's return if it happened? Course not.

Just with Dean Gorre coming on board it's another indication that all the Lowe Apologists have been spun once again...

Remember, we 'have no money' - hmmmmm - larger coaching squad than last season, approx 25 midfielders (quantity not quality, doesn't that remind you of our last relegation season???) and already the confirmation of more departures in Jan.

The funny thing about January is that the Lowe Groupies on here will post 'Oh no Lallana and Surman know nothing about going' - perhaps, but does that mean that it won't be happening????

WHY ELSE DID KELVIN LEAVE HIS PHONE SWITCHED OFF LAST DEADLINE DAY??

Because, he obviously knew that they wanted rid. End of.

Of course, please go ahead and pick holes - but deep down you know that Lowe is dragging us into the Cesspit that is League 1.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/article-1089089/Where-theres-Will-theres-way-Scots-Team-GB.html

"Rugby World Cup-winning coach Sir Clive Woodward wants to return to football after the London 2012 Olympics, despite enduring a troubled year with Southampton.

Woodward said yesterday he would prefer a management job in football rather than rugby after his director of elite performance contract with the British Olympic Association ends.

He said: 'Contrary to what's been said, I really enjoyed my time at Southampton and learned a lot. But I need to be the manager and I think I will have some offers from the lower divisions. If not, I will take a rugby job.'

He added that advice from League Managers Association chairman Howard Wilkinson on setting up a World Cup squad had been instrumental in planning his 2003 triumph with England."

Oh yeah, fire JP, hire SCW and make him manager. Sounds like our future indeed.

Very feasible scenario.

While I think we need to get rid of JP as soon as we can, getting SCW might actually be even worse, but with Ru**rt and Quisling in charge it is what we might expect.

Why? Don't you like watching attractive football?

I suppose it's a case of 'what's the point of playing attractive football if you don't win?' - well we tried he opposite with Branfoot...

SCW with the biggest backroom staff ever, including spin doctors, managed a pretty poor, unsuccessful, Lions tour.

Alex Fergusson was pretty crap at Man Utd in the first couple of seasons. I wonder what he would have been like if he had a group of players together that normally didn't play as a team, then took them to another hemisphere where they had to play against what is often regarded as the best team in the world? I actually think he was the wrong choice for the Lions due to his slow methodical approach to getting the best out of England. He always said it was a 4 year plan and things couldn't be done overnight. It's no use having that angle on a best of three tournament.

:confused::confused::confused:

Prozone actually existed and was used by many managers/coaches before Woodward, and I seem to remember Bolton having nutritionist/fitness/sports science specialists some time before. I dare say other clubs had been dabbling in such things too.

Where does this myth about SCW inventing all this stuff come from?

His CV?

What a load of rubbish. the lions never normally play together, why was Woody's Lions tour any different to any previous Lions tour?

If Woody's approach was not suited to the Lions then surely he should have known that from the start? If his approach is not transferable to a different type of Rugby situation then why do all you monkeys assume it will work in a completely different sport?

Woodward was at Saints - we were ****. We are currently using Woodward's expensive facilities - we are still ****. There still is not a scrap of evidence that Woodward would be any use to a football club.

It wasn't any different, was it. We lost like we pretty much do most of the time. Other than the early 70's we have been spanked quite often, when we have won it has been narrow 2-1 wins. It's not unexpected or shocking.

I think the Lions have only won a series once in NZ - 1971 since the second world war.

However we did not do well in 2005 as we had a bad team.

Likewise the Lions will not win in SA next summer

If they pick it on form we have a fairly good chance. Sadly that will mean not many players from England going!!

I have just been looking at the famous 99 call in 1974. Funny as ****!!
