Saint_clark Posted 5 December, 2008 Author Share Posted 5 December, 2008 Gone in the transfer window then To be honest I thought he would leave. Not so sure now - neither Walcott or Bale actually said they would stay at Saints. I am 99% certain Surman will stay.
Dannyboy_Saint Posted 5 December, 2008 Share Posted 5 December, 2008 Unfortunately it may not be up to him whether he stays or not. If a premiership team comes in with a £1.5m+ bid for him would the board really turn it down? Unlikely in my opinion. The likelihood of us keeping our young stars relies entirely on us being able to shift the old ones first.

It's There Posted 5 December, 2008 Share Posted 5 December, 2008 Apart from the money issue, why would a young player, playing in his first full season, playing attractive football where he is appreciated, playing with friends he's grown up with.. want to move? He's still earning more than his peers in other professions, knows he is popular and could become a talisman for the club like MLT- and he can always move and earn mega bucks in the future. He's on a long contract too. I think he will stay, regardless of money offers for at least another year.
Bailey Posted 5 December, 2008 Share Posted 5 December, 2008 I know for a fact that Lallana, Surman and even Schneiderlin are more than happy at Saints. None of them are wanting to leave but obviously, if some club comes in with a massive offer then we'd have to consider it. At least we won't have a repeat of the Kenwyne saga, and it's good to know that our players are totally committed to the cause.

NickG Posted 6 December, 2008 Share Posted 6 December, 2008 fear the worst but genuinely don't know. Remember the guarantees posted on here in the summer that they were all gone and not single player in. A lot post their predictions on here as fact, when its not. No one will come in with a massive offer because we publicised the fact that we are supposedly skint so if we recieve offers they will be lower but tempting enough to take. We have to keep the players together or we have no chance...simple really.

musesaint Posted 6 December, 2008 Share Posted 6 December, 2008 IMHO whether he goes in the transfer window will be the acid test of Lowe's true intentions to "re-build" the club Having watched the kids all season I think they could do incredibly well given time .....provided we can keep them together! SuperSAINT Posted 6 December, 2008 Share Posted 6 December, 2008 It's great news, but. Bale didn't want to go, neither did Theo -- UNTIL someone makes an offer. Then they want to go. Why do most people forget this
Plumstead_Saint Posted 6 December, 2008 Share Posted 6 December, 2008 I think [and hope ] they'll both still be here come February. The big clubs don't buy players who are not quite the finished article, in January. It's not like they will be brought in to turn around a failing season - they offer potential, not a seasoned pro's battling abilities or morale boost. Premiereship clubs will appreciate letting them play another 5 months first team football here and then swoop in the summer.
Legod Third Coming Posted 6 December, 2008 Share Posted 6 December, 2008 You really have to take this with a pinch of salt. If you have an asset that someone values, you never say you want to sell it - otherwise you lower the price. If he pledges his future here, that also ups his sell-on value.. and so on and so on... But, the guy is playing regular football among a bunch of lads who work together as a team with a fantastic ethic, under a coach who is instilling the very best type of football into them, who seems like a really honest, genuine and decent man - a guy moved to tears let you not forget by our support at Reading! Ultimately, this will always come down to what the club and player think is best for both - finances, career, international chances, etc. But let's just hope in the spirit of the new world post-credit crunch that people start to place less value on money and more on happiness. Anyone would be a fool to read to much in to this, I don't know why they do this kind of spin, we've had loads of players utter the dreaded "I want to stay at this club" a couple of weeks/months later there gone. Who was the last player to pledge their future to the club hmm let me think................................................................ um pahars Posted 6 December, 2008 Share Posted 6 December, 2008 The acid test will come when Spurs wave a 4 year deal worth 5 million in front of him and then they whisper 3 million in Lowe's ear. Nice to hear he doesn't want to go, and as others have said, I think he could benefit from staying here longer, but pretty soon actions will need to speak louder than words.
