Huffton Posted 6 December, 2008 Share Posted 6 December, 2008 I'm stilll waiting to see this exciting, attacking football, played by exciting young players with a real will to win, that you keep on harping on about. After yet again forking out several hundred pounds on season tickets I find myself going home most weeks utterly dissapointed with your product. When exactly is 'total football' going to start working? When will your 'revolutionary coaching setup' begin to yield results? And as a loyal supporter (customer) where do I fit in with your great vision? I'm guessing somewhere down the pecking order behind the shareholders. With football being, to quote yourself, a results driven business, how much longer will your position be tenable (oops, another quote)? From a totally fed up soon to be ex-season ticket holder. It will take more than 6 months to get the team playing great football.Do you not think the football for at least 3 seasons has been poor and even in the PL we were hardly Brazil. This is a young team and they thankfully have the majority of fans at the ground giving them the support they need. Well I'm no Lowe luvvie, and I certainly don't come on here to defend him or justify his existence. Yet I can appreciate when the team play decent quick passing football. And when they do it, it's a little revelation. If someone can't see the difference then they must be looking the other way. Which I'm prepared to believe with some supporters. Even Arsenal get beaten despite their pretty football. It takes time to get it right, but when it is right, it is superb to see. I've seen it in flashes in matches this season. We need to be doing it more.

St Landrew Posted 6 December, 2008 Share Posted 6 December, 2008 Look at the home results so far this season, pretty meaningless football or better results? Most home supporters would go for less pretty football and better results I've said myself in the recent and distant past that I'd take a season load of boring 1-0s to promotion. But Saints aren't doing that, and don't have a tradition of doing that either. And they certainly aren't going to start doing it either on the basis of a edgy 3rd of a season with a totally new format and no money to do anything else, in any case. St Marco Posted 6 December, 2008 Share Posted 6 December, 2008 The thing is though when we do see these flashes of brilliance is it really any different from last season? I mean for every one good game we play we play 3 bad ones. Last year we had some truely awful displays but they are no different to what i saw last year. If Davis had been in normal form we would of been beaten a lot more i think. So while i appreciate the approach we are trying to undertake at the club i think it will ultimatly get us nowhere. Other then the Reading game no other games stand out in my mind as good deserved wins. Preston we played crap and then they played crapper. If we had more wins and were more lethal in front of goal i have no doubt most of us would be believers. We all want us to be like Arsenal and play great football but were really not. As that old saying goes i would rather win ugly then lose playing beautiful football. The sad thing is if we had a different guy in charge who is a bit more positive we might get better results. Wilko Posted 6 December, 2008 Share Posted 6 December, 2008 How about the second half of the game? Wednesday played a bit better and our lads faded a bit. What of it? It's time people were realistic. The kids are young and will learn, but for the moment we need to be patient. Slagging people off will do nobody any good. When we were in the Premiership, with overpaid primadonnas under-performing it was fair enough to have a go. However, at the moment our players are a bunch of kids, who are still developing and need our support. I dislike what Rupert, Wilde and, to a certain extent, Crouch have done to the club as much as anybody else. But as far as the on-pitch affairs go, that's irrelevant. Jan is doing his best with very limited resources and the young uns are playing nice footie. It could be a whole lot worse. It's time we all grew up a bit. No-ones having a go at the kids, in the main they are doing bloody well. What we need is someone that can coach them properly, instill a will to win, make them a bit more hard-nosed and also to understand that you don't survive in the CCC playing pretty football. We are being run on a shoe string, we do have talented kids, but we also have a management that is, at best, naive. Thats the nub of the matter, not the players, and of course who put this bloody experiment in place, and who is the nast piece of work who supported this bloke to get him back into power. Wake up, see what is happening, just because we don't have much money doesn't mean we have to make do with nondescript managers, there are good young ENGLISH managers out there who would have this team of GOOD YOUNG (mainly) ENGLISH players doing better than they are. Why does Lowe big-up the Englishness of our team, but insists on employing a second-rate European coach. Simple, because he is a fool.

SaintBobby Posted 6 December, 2008 Share Posted 6 December, 2008 Weirdly, I'm enjoying following Saints more this season than at any time since the FA Cup final and 8th placed finish. Maybe it's just some sort of masochistic perversity, but I think there are some signs of real hope despite the pretty grim financial and league position. I think we do play good football. At times at least. Not massively effectively sometimes. But much better than last year. On the pitch, the only realistic aim this season can be to avoid relegation. I reckon we'll achieve that. Off the pitch, the only realistic aim can be to sort out our leakage of money. I reckpon we might sort that out too. This is a grim place to have got to, but I think we have a good chance of turning it round over the medium term. But patience is always in short supply in football.
