saintrich Posted 2 January, 2009 Share Posted 2 January, 2009 surely going to be quite uncertain... Davis, Skacel, Surman, Lallana rumoured to be off.. Lallana and Surman also 'injured' Have lost Cork and Pearce Schneiderlin 'could' come back, will he be risked if not 100%? Saga needs international clearance Gobern, Paterson and Mcglaggon (Sp?) featured last time around, but will their inexperience be risked against Man Utd? with players like Euell, BWP brought back? Bailey Posted 2 January, 2009 Share Posted 2 January, 2009 I reckon the team might look something like this, but it is dependant on a number of things . . . ----------------------- Davis ------------------------ James ----- Lancashire ----- Perry ----- Skacel/Molyneux ------ Schneiderlin/Gobern --- Gillett/Surman --------- Smith ---------------- McGoldrick ----------------- Holmes ---------------- Paterson/Saganowski ------------------ Saints may not want Skacel being cup-tied as it could put off potential suitors. Schneiderlin may not be fit in time, same with Surman. Also, Smith and Saganowski might not get clearance in time.

ExSt Peter Saint Posted 2 January, 2009 Share Posted 2 January, 2009 I seriously doubt that either Surman or Lallana will play. The best we can hope for is something like: --------------Davis James Lancashire Perry Molyneux ------Euell---Schneiderlin ---------Skacel Smith-------------Holmes ------McGoldrick Subs: Forecast, Gobern, McLaggon, Saga, BWP Who knows how the deckchairs on this doomed ship will be arranged, though. It could be that someone wants to buy Euell or Skacel, so they won't play. I can't see Saga starting when he's been away for so long, but you never know with JP. I guess the players picked will be wanting to do their best, but I fear an attack of stagefright once again combined with vastly inferior playing ability, which will not serve us well. eurosaint Posted 2 January, 2009 Share Posted 2 January, 2009 Given that the club will not want some players to be cup tied because of impending transfers, I reckon it could look like this : 4-2-3-1 Forecast. oxfordshire_saint Posted 2 January, 2009 Share Posted 2 January, 2009 It'd surely be Perry and Lancashire at the back, would seem harsh to throw Kyle Davies in against them!!! On the subject of Kyle Davies, does anyone know if he's any good? I saw him vs Farnborough in the pre-season friendly, but couldn't really judge him from that. Been playing regularly for the ressies though hasn't he? Isn't Ryan Tafazolli quite highly regarded in the youth team? He's even younger but he's 6'5", so could be useful. oxfordshire_saint Posted 2 January, 2009 Share Posted 2 January, 2009 according the the bbc the new left winger they've signed is "straight into the squad" so could see him. I don't think he'll feature, judging from these comments from Fergie: "We'll give him time. He's not played since December 10 so he'll need time to adjust and get used to the tempo of our game and also the training." And the club have also said the following: "A press conference will be held next week, once the necessary paperwork has been filed with the relevant football authorities." Saint Billy Posted 2 January, 2009 Share Posted 2 January, 2009 Really struggling with putting a saints side together for this one or any other game for that matter, we are lacking in every department except perhaps in goal, and that even depends on whether Davis is on the way out or not. Weston Saint Posted 2 January, 2009 Share Posted 2 January, 2009 Despite several comments on forums claiming Drew's absence was just an excuse before selling him I can confirm he did have a nasty gash on his ankle and unfortunately the Reading game came just too soon after Plymouth. He is training and will be absolutely gutted if he's not playing on Sunday. Of course he might have been sold by then but although there is some interest from a few clubs no offers have yet been made. As I said earlier, I am told Adam is at least 2 games away from a return. brightspark Posted 3 January, 2009 Share Posted 3 January, 2009 Hopefully: Davis; James, Perry, Lancashire, Molyneux; Smith, Schniederlin, Surman, Holmes; Skacel; McGoldrick (4-4-1-1) it will be nothing like that though. i definitely think we should play Skacel more forward, if he could regain his Hearts form he'd be the best player in the Championship. Even if we have to sacrifice Holmes, PLAY SKACEL FORWARD!!!

Even if we have to sacrifice Holmes, PLAY SKACEL FORWARD!!! I agree, if we get him firing in that position it would be a huge asset. He can certainly strike a ball and the team might start getting some goals from midfield (tbh goals from anywhere we badly need!) Additionally, I hear that he's a very friendly guy. He also seems to appreiciate the Saints fans support and has played out of position at left-back to an admirable and near-faultless level for god knows how long. Massive respect to Skacel for all of that. (And someone mentioned he had an attractive girlfriend...) If we can try and give Perry and Lancashire some protection then that would be great as I see that as our weakest point, so having Gillett (who I thought had a storming game against Reading) covering them and tracking back to the full-back positions would be really useful. So we have a keeper, a defence, a midfield (McKlaggon on the wing?) and McGoldrick in goalscoring form averaging a goal a game for his last game... The young players will put all their effort into the most challenging game they will have ever played in. We are totally written off for this game and so I'm really looking forward to it. Let's get some pride and unity back :]

Arizona Posted 3 January, 2009 Share Posted 3 January, 2009 Who?! Schneiderlin and Paterson. Would have thought the latter was obvious. Anyway, this is the one game when I wouldn't want Skacel in an attacking possition, simply because we need him in defence. I am already dreading what Giggs, Ronaldo et al will make of Perry and Lancashire, we sure as heck don't need a couple of dodgy inexperienced fullbacks either side of them.
