not as good as I hoped

probably a little better at going forward than defending, and a slightly better passer than tackler

a lot of room for improvement - but hopefully with a few games under his belt he will

not as bad a James at right back though

Agree with that too. James at RB has been a problem for several matches now. Very poor.

Just me, or was he f*cking awful today?

Based on reports from last week I expected him to be better - having said that he made one vital tackle towards the end of the first half and his confidence picked up a little from there. I don't think that I want to judge the lad on only his second appearance for the club.

James is OK going forward but I felt that his defensive performance was woeful today. He is a midfielder - not a right back. He is too easily done by a tricky winger.

He was poor at the start of the game but I thought once he stopped falling over he came into it more and played a lot better. I thought he dealt with the 3 man defence situation much better than James did.

P.S. I thought it was a disgrace that he had to carry the can for the post match interviews. The guy's been here 2 weeks and he must be thinking what the fnck has he let himself in for?

Good point. He does have potential - but everytime I have seen him at RB he has been attacked and made a fool of to be honest.

He did have a mare today, but give him his dues - he is far more reliable than most at crosses into the box. Put in a beaut about two-thirds through the first half. Shame no one could get on the other end of it.

Thought he was ok. Nothing special but to be fair, it will take him some time to integrate. Certainly I didn't think he was useless.

What was funny though - and I might be totally wrong on this - but I am sure that when the team was read out, on the screens he was pictured wearing his Everton shirt. It was certainly blue, and funnily enough the bloke who moves the pictures on very quickly realised the mistake and moved to the next picture!!!

What made you think that he would be good? He is a 19 year old Everton third choice.

Seriously guys. Can we attempt to get some sense of perspective here?

For the left back position this season Everton have used Leighton Baines, Joleon Lescott and Nuno Valente.

Please just think about that for a moment. And if you don't know who these players are...well just accept from me that they are the sort of players that will keep a youth player out of the team. David Moyes knows very well how to arrange a good defence.

And anyone of those players would not even consider walking into the shower of sh:t that is Southampton Football Club at the moment. So let's please stop panning the player for being a third or fourth choice (depending on how much of a f::cking clue you have) player for Everton as it has very little bearing on us, as once again we are a million miles away from Everton at this precise minute.

We are not in the Premier League. Thus we will not attract Premier League standard players. Get real.

Aside from that i'll drive home a point which has been made on here countless times. Hounding a player after one (debatably) sh:t performance is so utterly moronic it's painful...

I agree, anyone who signs for us at present deserves a medal! He didn't have a great game today but he was surrounded by so much crap it's hard to judge the lad. If some of the other players are our "future", God help us. Most of them bottle 50/50s against not the biggest CCC side physically and can't trap a ball.

I and 95% of fans, for this season, hold Wilde and Lowe responsible for these daft appointments, reckless gambles that have us any pride and dignity we had left. Time for Lowe, Wilde and JP to go on Monday.

Too early to judge.

Having a proper left back is a positive and his positional sense was OK (although thought he ventured too far forward at times). Was beaten a bit too easy towards the end of the game, but that probably had more to do with us having no shape following the tactical ineptitude of our manager (as well as perhaps lack of match fitness).

OK, I'd have given him a 5/6 out of 10, and forgotten about the last 15 mins.

And the fact that he was 3rd or 4th choice at Everton means nothing to me. As Jack Cork proved with his solid performances, despite being 12th choice for centre mid for Chelsea.

nto the greatest of home debuts IMO. He fell over twice, which on another day could have been crucial and his positional sense early on looks poor. He sorted that out but his lack of height is a massive concern. With Perry and James as starters in our back four what we could do with is some extra height to help Seijs. Molyneux looks about 5'8".

I have to say at one point he ran down the left and found himself isolated as BWP was nowhere to be seen. He showed decent composure to stop and pick out a man inside. But that was pretty much the only good thing he did for me. Still its early doors, lets hope he settles in and becomes a quality signing.

With Surman, Mills and Skacel did we really need another left back this season?

Agreed. He didn't look great, a bit nervous perhaps, but he did look like he was playing in the right position and knew where he needed to be most of the time. Once he settled in he looked OK and coped with the move to 3 at the back quite well.

Listening the Radio Hampshire on the way to the ground JP said that he thought 1 or 2 players would leave before the end of the month. I'm putting my money on Skacel being one of them (no inside knowledge, just my opinion) and that's why we've brought in LM.

I haven't seen him play so wouldn't be able to judge.

However, it seems very odd to me that the management of the club, and many supporters too, seem to think that Everton's fourth choice right-back, who has never played first-team football, will automatically be good enough to play in the CCC.

The year we were relegated, we reached the youth cup final. The majority of that team were effectively third or fourth choice first-team players (one or two, like Cranie, a bit higher up the pecking order). Several of that team have never made it at CCC level and probably never will. There must be a decent chance that Molyneux will unfortunately come into the same bracket.

Of course, he may turn out to be real quality and an inspired signing, but given all the other largely terrible signings made under the current regime, I doubt it.
