Airside shops in the UK that ask you for your boarding pass when buying non-excise controlled goods (when there's no legal requirement to do so)... Just so they can reclaim the VAT for themselves (rather than passing on the saving to  applicable customers). Gits.

In 1999 I could see that the UK was going to be iffy and I didn't fancy squeezing into Cornwall so I did a bit of research and saw that the path of totality carved a big swathe across Europe and particularly northern France so I found a hotel just south of Arras and in the morning we drove down to somewhere north west of Amiens.

The morning started with pouring rain but the skies cleared and we had a wonderful view of it all. It was an awesome experience that I would like to do again.
