Why not? As I have explained many times before there are a few posters on here I can’t be bothered with but occasionally I chose to read something they have posted. Sometimes it is because I can see their posts quoted in another post so want to get a handle on what is going on. Sometimes it makes sense to read what they have been saying to follow the line of a thread. Sometimes it is out of basic curiosity to see what they had to say in response to something else. I might be happy to read a certain poster’s post in the football section but want to avoid the same poster in the Lounge.

The whole point being that I have a choice whether to look at it or not rather than just have to wade through stuff I can’t be bothered with most of the time.

I can understand why nic might not be able to get his head around the concept but can’t see why you have an issue with it. You would have a point if I said I ignore every post that xyz sends but as I seem to have to say every few months, I use the ignore function as a filter. I’m sure others do to.

It is particularly good for dealing with forum stalkers and I picked up one or two of those over the years.

If you don’t understand how it works, put me on ignore. You are then given the choice of reading the post if you want to or even taking me off ignore again. If you want. 

I find the feature usual and the people who originally put this site together obviously thought the same.

Yep, I do the same with a couple of posters. Nice to not to have to see all the nonsense they post, unless I choose to for the reasons you mention. I don't see it as an ignore function as such, more that the default position is that it hides a person's posts  I'm not sure why people can't grasp how people can and do use it.
