So, we've lost Stewart and Charles from last year. Anyone else? Toward end of last season the squad was purring. I expected more departures by now, but starting look like most will stay. Replace the two outs and surely that's enough? :D

Depends on who and what we replace them with.

A reliable back up GK would be useful too.

We just signed George Long. 0 chance this happens.

I think Alfie House was saying a few weeks ago that they're expecting another GK to come in once they shift Ramsdale and Bazunu. Probably a younger GK with Long as the veteran of the group of three senior pros

Probably paying Ramsdale and Baz over 100k a week at the moment between them. No other keepers coming in till they go I expect.

Long was essentially signed as third choice last season as I recall.

Reading the Norwich fans reviews it seems he’s fine providing not called upon to play. He might be great as a training partner but if Petetz is injured or suspended then we could be buggered.

Need an option we’re confident of playing if needed.

Fully agree with later comments that we need to move Ramsdale and Bazunu on first though. Especially Ramsdale with the salary burden.

I remember when it was the rage to state Long was brought in for Keeper practice and help put the cones out.

Bloody hell, I forgot Ramsdale was still here. If he doesn't find a new club he'll have to play! But who is better, him or Peretz.

Peretz is better and actually wants to play for the club.

Please don’t dick up this striker signing.

Spunk up some cash and use him to play in the EPL next season when we go up.

Need to keep an eye on strikers coming into to other clubs as that should be a sign they have their own replacement.

Do we actually know Ramsdales thoughts? I know he went to Newcastle but who wouldn't jump at a chance for an instant return to the Prem.

Ah, you just know we'll either sign nobody or someone you've never heard of. It is our way.. (see: Larin)

I guess we never knew who Jander, Scienza & Peretz was before they signed so you could be right.

I expect it was also largely driven by the club wanting/needing to get his wages off the books to assemble a squad for the Championship. But inevitably loads of people have just lazily concluded that he's a bad apple / uncommitted, and use that as a stick to beat him with.

He didn't jump at the chance to play. He spent most of the season on the bench. Those were his thoughts. He chose bench for Newcastle over trying to help us get back up.

On the other hand, Peretz wanted to sign permanently after his loan despite what happened at the end of last season and us not getting promoted.

I completely missed this:

Daouda Traoré

FRA
Midfielder
Southampton to Le Mans

Box-to-box midfielder, 20, joins Ligue 1 newcomers on loan with option to buy after previous stints at Valenciennes, Betis and Bari

So having already loaned out JRob to Monza, we've now sent this lad off to Le Mans.

Either we're in a race to get rid of them. Or we're hoping they will come back with big improvements in their speed and endurance respectively.

Did he, was it an option for him to stay? I don’t believe it was, also, he played quite a bit.

Another note on Peretz V Ramsdale. I hope those of you who believe Peretz is the better keeper are correct. Just remember Peretz had half a good season in the championship as a reference point. Ramsdale played in the worst premier league side In the universe.

it’s a moot point because he surely will be off and personally I wish him well.

premier league matches

  • Bournemouth: 37
  • Sheffield United: 38
  • Arsenal: 95
  • Southampton: 25
  • Newcastle: 12
  • Career: 195

Traore has left on loan with Le Mans having an option to buy. So Saints aren't keen on keeping him.

Ramsdale is a great keeper but Peretz is what we need right now. It's not just about ability, it's attitude, importance to the dressing room, positivity and organisational ability. I think with our squad and the relationships he's fostered Peretz is the one we wanted and the one we need now. Also no doubt considerably cheaper wage wise too.

I 100% agree, that wasn’t the point I was attempting to make, it was,  what I believed was revisionism relating to Ramsdale.

I don’t think I’ve seen anyone suggesting ‘bad apple’ etc or poor attitude. He wanted to stay in the EPL to protect his chances of World Cup selection, and we didn’t want his hefty wages after relegation.

I don’t suspect he’s kicking up a rumpus in the background, that seems out of character. In fairness I think the same can probably be said of Bazunu.

Agree, definitely some recency bias in some answers.

No issues with Ramsdale from his time with us or his choice and manner of him leaving.

During a shocking season I can only recollect one goal conceded where I thought he was at fault ( first at home to Wolves). If Peretz hadn’t signed in June I’d have been happy with Ramsdale coming back in, altjough highly unlikely of course.

Also agree with comments re Peretz return, the one we most wanted and great to have him. Seems a good influence (as I think Ramsdale is also).

Deciding which is ‘better’ is a closer run thing. Peretz had a few moments last season (Preston away, the goals conceded at Doncaster) to give concern. Ramsdale has proven himself in the EPL. Perhaps Peretz has the greater potential.

Happy with either as No 1 choice, but need to sort the No2 out.

I think you missed the gist of his post,
