serious question about crowd numbers

I think they stayed pretty much the same.

He was in charge the first season down when most people renewed when we were in the Prem. Had he not been ousted the crowds probably would have dropped.

I think the crowds have dropped this year with Lowe returning - compared to last season.

Average attendance was pretty similar.

However, one thing that is worth mentioning is that season tickets underpin crowds and a decent number were sold for our first season down when we were still in with a shout of being in the Prem.

Therefore to hold up in the second year could arguably be said to be a good effort. Whether this was as a result of the new regime/Lowe going is impossible to judge.

Additionally, I think the season ticket take up when Lowe left was quite dramatic.

From memory season tickets went from something like 7,000 in early July to almost 14,000 by the time the season started. Obviously, the total increases through the close season, but I think that was more than what was expected given previous ticket sales patterns.

And of course the drop off this season has been quite profound (something like 6,000). How much of that is down to last years poor performances affecting season ticket sales, and how much is down to Lowe (direct or otherwise) will never be able to be proved either way.

when lowe was ousted last time...did the crowds go up significantly at all..?

just tried looking but got bored...wondered if anyone knew of the top of their heads..

Dont think it really proves much either way to be honest... but I tell you what they'll go up when he leaves this time.

The impact on this years attendances could have been worse, he came back AFTER season tickets were sold, and several people I know would not have renewed knowing that. As a season ticket holder for 20 years I had already decided to finish at end of last season.

keep on topic

Being totally honest DellDays you have adopted a different tone and approach recently. I certainly can't remember you being so antagonistic and argumentative in the past. Pre submerging tension?

Chill out a bit and don't be so argumentative, leave that for the various other numpties on here.

oh..I used to be a pain in the arse..got banned from TSF and saintsforever before that..

you are right though will chill...no matter what we do we have lowe here (and wotte) till the end of the season at least..

IMO we should leave the coach/team alone and give them the best possible chance of survival and after the season is decided either way then we should go to town on lowe and co..

anyways...im off on tuesday (that is the plan) for a few weeks, back for a week at the end of march then away till 31st may...

I may come back to a league 1 tin pot club..:smt082

I have to agree UP. Whilst I didn't always agree with TDD I did find thought provoking debate in his topics. I know he's taken a bit of stick from people, you know the normal 'troll' comments but I've never felt they were warranted. However just this last few days TDD seems to be, well, antagonistic and argumentative, just as you have said. Come back the old TDD.

I think 24k is the upper limit of support we can expect in the Championship. Cost of football and board problems have had an affect but the biggest problem for me is that the last 18 months of football has been utter utter dross. We could have Le Tiss as coach and Lawrie Mac as chairman and would still only get 16k if we were in the same position. Until the team picks up we wont see anymore fans turn up regardless of whether Lowe and Wilde are in charge or not.

TBH I think its allsimply done to what fans perceive as value for money - its why when in te prem we usyually sold out - more expensive but considered better entertainment because of the quality on display - added to by additional corporates and quite a few STs held by tickting agencies etc.

when we first came down, we losty those who considered it expensive for 2nd tier football, and alot of these corporates. Its declined simply because ogf teh poor performances and laack of results making it usually an expensive way to be miserable for 2 hours.

There are bound to be some you have stayed away because of Lowe in protest, but I dont think these numbers are that high, and i suspect most of these would also return if we had some success even if Lowe was still here - its more the misery of poor results and the continued problems that keep these fans away.

We also have the financial situation, so folk are going to less games or alternating which kids get to go. Whatever happens next year, would like to see the club do more on the price front. The question is, even at a £5 cheaper, what impact would this have on the gate iof we are still struggling?

There's the nub, in fact it can make a whole weekend a bit down. The figures might vary a bit around the edges, I'm sure, as we reciprocate the feelings Lowe appears to have towards his customers, but visiting from abroad and not having seen a win for 2/3 seasons is getting to me too!

Anyway, a Saints win and on Sunday my ladies team winning 3-0 away AND me debutting off the bench makes me feel great this Monday morning!

A ceasefire until May 4th to allow everyone to concentrate on more immediately pressing matters sounds like a jolly fine idea.
