St Marco Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 I didn't notice any fights either. If this is true then my thoughts are with the guy in hospital, hope he makes a full recovery. Hopefully it is not true though.

StuRomseySaint Posted 28 February, 2009 Author Share Posted 28 February, 2009 Dearly hope this is just a rumour and nothing more. 2 seperate sources on the Cardiff forum and one in the Lounge, seems it is true. Just been on the Radio they are dealing with a 'major football related incident' .
sambosa75 Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 Awful news but speaking from experience if there is one set of supporters I'm not surprised to hear about its Cardiff. They always seem to bring a few "boys" down when they play us. If memory serves, last season was an evening game and they seemed intent on making trouble in town after the game. If true, hopefully the fan makes a speedy recovery and it well looked after at Southampton General.
lordswoodsaints Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 there was some trouble during the game in a pub between saints and cardiff fans who didnt have tickets, from what i hear (and its only a rumour) there were about 15-20 cardiff lads and 6 saints lads,i saw one of the saints lads after the game and his face was a bit bruised and cut. wether or not this was the incident i dont know :smt102
eurosaint Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 The road was blocked going south out of the stadium after the game and the OB were all over the place (at least 6 squad cars!). There was obviously something heavy going on !!!
St Marco Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 Apparently Seems that a couple of Cardiff fans did not get into the game so went to a pub nearby to watch it then they got attacked. One is in intensive care and the other needed loads of stitches acording to their forum.
Toomer Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 I think there was a bit of trouble around the Kingsland Market area before the game.
Saint Martini Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 On that Cardiff forum it mentions that it was apparently three Cardiff fans that didn't get into the stadium and then went to a pub where they got "jumped from behind". Two others are in the hospital as well according to that poster.

St Marco Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 where can u watch it on telly? Yeah obviously that bit made no sense to me neither. But i think we all know what the guy meant, went to pub because they could not get in hoping to hear the game or something (we have all been in that situation before those who travel). Was then attacked from behind etc. Lets just hope it's not true.

lordswoodsaints Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 i did also see 3 rowdy cardiff fans turned away from entering the ground for being drunk, they were making arses of themselves and goading a few youngsters, they were told they were'nt going to get in and they wandered off towards the bridge......this might have been them??? Dicko Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 I saw a Cardiff fan in between Ocean Village and the Chapel pub with his nose spread across his face 4 Saints fans on the other side of the road were chanting at him & had obviously just done him over

spyinthesky Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 On the Muppet site someone says their brother witnessed the aftermath of the incident in Anderson Rd, which I believe is behind the Chapel Arms. Obviously don't know the circumstances but this is just shocking if reports are true. Before the game I walked up Anderson Rd behind 4 saints fans and 2 Cardiff fans (obviously mates) and this is how it should be, not people shouting, swearing and battering one another because they wear different colours. Seaford Saint Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 I chatted to a cardiff fan after the game as the poster above says - that's how it should be....I guess there's a sizable minority of trouble makers at all clubs. Sounds like 3 fans against 25 "Saints fans". This news has taken the shine off a great day for me...

RedArmy Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 There was enough Cardiff around town that were looking for trouble, so I can't imagine Saints fans would've picked on any innocent fans. Not what you like to see/hear though.
ooarrlatvian Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 It's not unusual for trouble to happen with Cardiff fans- especially up here in Bristol where we get the worst because we're the closest English town to the border. Having said that it's a small minority and just a few idiots giving the whole club a bad name. I was in Cardiff working yesterday and a middle-aged Cardiff fan I was talking to said he hoped there wouldn't be trouble today. Prophetic words indeed... I was in Cardiff working yesterday and a middle-aged Cardiff fan I was talking to said he hoped there wouldn't be trouble today. Prophetic words indeed... I know that historically Cardiff City fans have had a poor reputation for trouble making but this would appear to be 2 fans from different clubs receiving very serious injuries as a result of playing Saints. A lot of my friends and colleagues are Bluebirds and one of them phoned me after the game to say we deserved our win and he was in a hotel with some other Bluebirds and Saints fans and no trouble at all. This is the way it should be. That people cannot go to a football match in this day and age and end up in hospital is a disgrace regardless of which club they support
spyinthesky Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 To be fair Peter Risdale, the Cardiff Chairman, was quoted as saying, in an article on their new stadium, that the club were hoping to attract more family supporters and get rid of the troublesome fans. Unfortunately there are some clubs who continue to be plagued by idiots and it is not difficult to name those clubs who continue to feature Not saying the person(s) involved in this alleged incident were of this persuasion but,if there is a serious casualty or, god forbid a death, then it will not surprise me if some knuckledraggers will be calling for 'revenge'

Saint Martini Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 Yes, but sadly the common denominator is that both fans were hospitalised by Saints "fans" But the reall fans were in the stadium supporting the team. Wotte said so. On a serious note, as a previous poster said. The three Cardiff "fans" in question might have beaten up a someone just before. Lets not assume that a mob attacked some innocent people. It might have well been a case of a bunch of morons against a group of idiots. Not that that makes punching someone so hard that they end up in a coma alright but it does provide a different context. The Rover Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 I presume this is the incident: A MAN has been stabbed five times in an attack outside St Mary's Stadium in Southampton. The 24-year-old man was left with stab wounds to his neck, back and hand following the assault between 9.45pm and 10.15pm last night. Police say emergency services were called to Britannia Road in St Mary's after a woman found the victim and called for an ambulance. Officers searching the area later arrested a 24-year-old man in Palmerston Park at around 10.35pm. A police spokesman said they are still waiting to interview the two men to find out what lead to the stabbing. He confirmed the victim is in Southampton General Hospital receiving treatment but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening. http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/4160140.Knife_attack_outside_St_Mary_s_Stadium/

saint_ed Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 The police had rounded up around 25 Cardiff fans by the market near St Mary's flats. I saw the incident , a group of Cardiff fans were courageously ganging up on one foolishly gobby saints fan near that pub just up the road - the old bill got between them and 'advised' in no uncertain terms the Saints fan to leave the area immediately . No harm done as far as I could see but it could have turned nasty without the boys in blue .
