ladysaint Posted 14 March, 2009 Share Posted 14 March, 2009 we have only just had a settled team but it looks to me that they are very tired and lacklustre and the game against Blackpool is yet another win game for us, what can be done. I have said all season this squad looks the most unfit lot I have seen for a very long time.

ART Posted 14 March, 2009 Share Posted 14 March, 2009 One wonders whether it's Wotte's insistance on the players living like monks might not be behind the players lack luster performances. All work and not play etc.. where some teams under pressure get taken for a sunshine break to perk up the spirits. Surely Flybe can lay on a bit of excitement for the boys! Surely not ART, did you not see the pics of our boys at the megaBowl (or whatever its called)? Surely thats better than a sunshine break, though perhaps the exertions of bowling took its toll on the boysh. Don't you realise the Red Funnel fares are very high these days, sunshine is an expensive commodity for Saints

I remember mid 90's there was a break in the football calendar, and I went to Tenerife with my ex girlfriend. We walked into Linekars bar, only to find the whole Saints team on the ****. All I can say is what a great 2 days I had, although my ex wasnt happy about it! We stayed up that year and the team spirit was great.

Every other club is doing this apart from Saints :-(
L1Minus10 Posted 15 March, 2009 Share Posted 15 March, 2009 Well someone is gonna come in at right back as james is suspended. Players who you would normally be looking to leave out are McGoldrick, Lallana and Surman but we haven't got the back up. I would suggest bringing in Wotton for McGoldrick and pushing Gillett and Lallana forward a bit more.

sidthesquid Posted 15 March, 2009 Share Posted 15 March, 2009 New manager? I didnt see an unfit team - I saw an uninspired one. I think you are unfair - it was a very high-tempo, frantic sort of game - that was why it was cr~p. It wasn't lack of effort, just lack of ability
Saint_Jonny Posted 15 March, 2009 Share Posted 15 March, 2009 BWP looked sharp when he came on, but then again he only ever shines when he comes on as a sub, worth giving him a start tho IMO, let him have a free role up front.

SNSUN Posted 15 March, 2009 Share Posted 15 March, 2009 We've a week to prepare for Blackpool. In professional football that should be more than enough time to refresh them all. Keep the same line up.

It wasn't lack of effort, just lack of ability Sid, a fair comment about a very poor game. We need to rest 4 or 5 players but we don't have the depth of players to do so. So, it's same again for 'pool. (imo)
Andy_Porter Posted 15 March, 2009 Share Posted 15 March, 2009 The midfield needs sorting. I'd try something like Davis James Size Perry Molyneux Thomson Gillett Wotton Skacel Saganowski Euell Subs: Bart, Liptak, Schneiderlin, McGoldrick and Lallana. Molyneux is **** but with Mills on loan and Surman turning into a retard I think it's probably best. Given the the choice I'd recall Mills and play him LB. derry Posted 15 March, 2009 Share Posted 15 March, 2009 The plus was we kept a clean sheet and the back 5 including Gillett battled and slugged it out. James is out, I would play Wotton at rightback with Thompson right mid in front of him. I can't see Wotte abandoning the diamond, I would play Surman and Gillett, Euell and Saganowski up front with BWP at the front of the diamond. I would prefer 4-4-2 with the same 4 midfield with Surman and Gillett in the middle, BWP left and Thompson right.

70's Mike Posted 15 March, 2009 Share Posted 15 March, 2009 this thread really shows how poor the squad is, a right back is suspended and we really have no replacement in a must not lose game
Sheff Saint Posted 15 March, 2009 Share Posted 15 March, 2009 this thread really shows how poor the squad is' date=' a right back is suspended and we really have no replacement in a must not lose game[/quote'] And he isn't even a right back! Sadly this is where the stupid policy at the start of the season is coming back to bite us. Wotte managed to reasonably gel the 11 decent players we had left and we are much tougher than we were around Christmas. But sadly we all know we wasted what little money we had so where is the big centre fwd we need? Where is the right back we need? We've only got 11 players in the squad and no plan b. I'm feeling quite negative today sorry.
saints_is_the_south Posted 16 March, 2009 Share Posted 16 March, 2009 Definatly should see some changes, Surman & Lallana should be dropped after Saturday's performance.
Legod Third Coming Posted 16 March, 2009 Share Posted 16 March, 2009 Just a thought but the idea of a diamond in midfield is not contrary to a 4-4-2. I doubt there are many teams who play with a flat four across midfield. Most these days recognise the importance of having one holding and one attacking central midfielder. As for right back, I would play Perry there and put Liptak or Wotton at CB.
