John Armstrong-Holmes moved today to again dismiss rumours that Notts County are in serious financial difficulty.

The Magpies' chairman said he is "totally fed up" with having to react to comments and innuendo that is having such an unsettling affect at Meadow Lane.

He said: "Our vice-chairman Roy Parker issued a statement last week which made it plain to supporters that there's no truth in the rumours that we are on the brink of going back into Administration but it seems some people just don't want to listen to the facts.

"I have already explained that we are having the same sort of problems as virtually every other business - and football club - in this country.

"For example, Southampton owe us a six-figure sum as one of the David McGoldrick transfer payments that should have been paid last month. Hopefully, we will be receiving that money in April.

My question is...how much did we agree to buy him for ?

Ooooooh you mean he's not one of Rupey Baby's Academy 'Homegrown Superstars' after all???

(I knew that already...)

There are plenty of things to bash RL with, but you do your argument no favours in trying to turn everything into a rant. Unless you expect every player to be grown in a test tube at Staplewood that is - but that would be crazy sports science and there's no place for that is there....

From Wikipedia:

"He was snapped up by Southampton and joined their academy in the summer of 2004. He was a member of Southampton's youth team that reached the final of the FA Youth Cup in 2005, losing on aggregate to Ipswich Town."

Pure speculation, but anyone else think this might be a precursor to administration? Wouldn't you seek to hold back assets rather than settling liabilities if you know it will get written off / reduced in administration.

It's a footballing debt and so would not be written off (not unless we want to start over in the Jewson Wessex).

We owe £400,000 according to this Notts County messageboard.

http://boards.footymad.net/forum.php?tno=402&fid=17&sty=2&act=1&mid=2126551481

Apologies for being very stupid but what am I missing here? How can we still owe them £400,000 for a player we took to our academy 4 years ago? Surely we didn't buy him for that much in the first place did we? An unknown 16/17 year old from Notts County?

Or was a fee based on future first team performances? If it's based on goals scored we're paying about £40,000 per goal and even on appearances it's about £10k a game!? And that's assuming we haven't paid them anything yet.

Sorry, it's early and I can't get my head round this one.

That echoes my thoughts too......something doesn't add up, I even thought it could be a recycled old story. I thought we bought him for less than that anyway.....

I'd be surprised if we owed anywhere near that. Nearly half a million on a 17 yr old kid from Notts County? I don't know if he had even made a single appearance for their first team. Maybe £200k, but I find it unlikely Rupes would have agreed on any more than that.

The quote from the Notts County chairman on Monday just said it was a "6 figure sum". Although he did also say it was "one of the David McGoldrick transfer payments" which implies there are more to come (?)

Why does it not add up?

We were a Prem club when we signed him, and no doubt this payment is to do with the number of first team appearances he's made. It would have been difficult for him to make as many appearances as he has already in the Prem, so we would of been happy to offer such a large sum.

Nah...just a little sarcasm. Lowe always glazes over the fact that he has pillaged other clubs in the way that we get done, that's all.

I'm all for honesty - which is in short supply at SMS.

Doesn't really imply that, it could more accurately suggest it is the last one. Could be that we staged the payments, and we still owe 100k.

Now I seem to remember(from the above) that McGoldrick came here in the summer of 2004, ie when he was 16. Would he have been able to sign a pro-contract with County at that age? There would be no theoretical entitelment to a fee if he didn't have a contract with them, we may have done "the right thing" by them and given them something (albeit over time) like Arsenal did with us for Walcott. But that we owe them 400K still for a league 2 unknown 16 year old is absolutely laughable, we wouldn't have promised them a quarter of that. Methinks the Notts Co chairman's nose probably got a bit longer after he said that.

So we are expected to get all our youth players for nothing? Now there is a very clever strategy that guarantees the form of quality your posts exhibit.

Saints Academy have wrapped up a deal for Notts County's talented young striker David McGoldrick.

Subject to a medical, the 16 year old front man will sign for Saints as a first year scholar tomorrow.

McGoldrick made his first team debut for County last season in a 2-1 defeat against Swindon but after rejecting a scholarship with the Magpies his services were coveted by several Premiership clubs.

The teenage forward had trials with Blackburn, Fulham and Everton during pre-season but despite interest from all those clubs McGoldrick chose to link up with former strike partner Leon Best on the south coast.

Saints will have to pay the Nottinghamshire outfit compensation for the training and education he received while he was at County with a fee to be decided between the two clubs.

Academy manager Huw Jennings commented: "We are delighted to be signing a young player with a lot of potential.

"David is a striker who can play with his back to goal and links the play well. He is a natural second striker and could provide an excellent partner for the likes of Nathan Dyer in our youth teams."

Conspiracy theory #59.

Maybe there is a claus that should have been based on Appearances made, but due to a typo error ended up as payment for non appearances ... hence his name being 1st on the team sheet no matter how badly he is performing ;)

Maybe, just maybe, Mighty Mac offered back to Notts County in lieu of payment.

AND Maybe they declined on the grounds he was not good enough for their team....Maybe they asked for Pulis instead and Maybe we said No..We keep our best players. Now then what about Gasmi and any of our Reserves who keep losing nowadays.

Reserves got tonked today,no first teamers involved apart from Liptak, looked like an academy side really. Not even Pullis or Gasmi. Must enquire as to whether Gasmi may have returned to Strasbourg already.

Surprised about Liptak, now he is First team squad..then again he needs matches. But Pulis is still injured? Gasmi, No idea. Reserves confidence etc..

Since Navyred stopped going/reporting their not the same...He was a good coach and good reports.;)

Bring back Navyred and Woggy.;)

Patterson and Smith played, Holmes got about 30 minutes. But the rest of the side looked really weak. Our reserve strength is really lamentable, Hatch,Imudia, Kyle Davies and all that. The reserves should be the ante-chamber to the first team, ours is the ante-chamber to the tyro league. If we hadn't got cheap loans like Smith and Gasmi we wouldn't even have a reserve team most of the time..

Lancashire, Molyneux, Gobern, Paterson and Smith all started and Holmes came off the bench. They may not be seen as first teamers but have all been in the first team this season.

True, but I meant current first teamers who play on a regular basis. Should have been specific I suppose.Anyway very poor result although Reading did play Lita, why is he hanging about in their reserves when they can't score against crap like Palarse? They could loan him to us (and pay him of course).

I thought a few more of the first teamers would have played since we don't have a game for a while now. The likes of BWP, Lallana, Wotton, Schneiderlin etc haven't played much first team football recently.

Maybe Wotte thinks they need a decent rest before our run of games over easter.

Lita would give us goals and hope..Just what we need...Deal on his wages.

The Hunt brothers and Kitson would help or is it Long....Dreaming again..
