Kelvin hopeful of staying?

I think he will stay. He loves the area and doesnt want to leave. Hopefully there will be news breaking soon about the future of the club which means his future will be resolved also.

I heard part of the reason is that his children are settled in the schools they go to, and he would not want to uproot them unless he really has to, when you get to the twilight of your career, and have made a fair bit of money as professional footballers have, enjoying life is more important than dragging you family from pillar to post.

That really can be the only reason he is saying he wants to stay - its hard to believe he has enjoyed playing for us this season as being a keeper single handedly keeping a poor team in a match for us only to lose anyway cannot be a satisfactory way to earn a living.

Fair play if he does stay, but lets not be surprised if he doesn't, because who can blame him?

He really hasn't much reason to be loyal to us because with the managers we've gone through and the turmoil the club has put him through he is well within his rights to say "look, I've more than done my bit, I might see how I get on somewhere else".

Find it hard to get excited about any of the current crop staying tbh.

Can't wait for this season to come to and end.

as crap as they have been, don't forget that there are worse players out there so we need to keep a few in case our wonderful scouting system continues to uncover more gems like Holmes, Pulis and Gasmi.

Nothing wrong with Holmes, just unlucky to get 2 bad injuries

You're right in what you say. It would be a big boost if he did decide to stay, as he has certainly proved to be better than most keepers at this level and arguably some might consider that he has been Premiership standard. Looking back on his stay at Sunderland, he had a poor defence in front of him and his confidence took a knock. With us, expectations have not been as high and his confidence has taken a big boost because everybody realises that without him we would have been down weeks ago.

If he did stay, then he could become a bit of a local legend, as I'm sure that there would be other clubs prepared to make attractive offers for him and nobody could really feel aggrieved if he went, as you say.

I disagree. Look at the players who were at Leicester and got them relegated, and the difference this season - admittedly with some new additions.

We have good players - Gillet, Holmes, Davis, Perry, Saejis, Surman, James...

They have been DIABOLICALLY mismanaged.

They have also had concerns from day 1 of the season about:

The ineptitude of the board

Their wages (the financial position)

The coaching

The manager...

Anyone who has studied motivation even fleetingly (Maslow's heirarchy of needs, for example) knows that you need factors in place to do a good job - the knowledge that you will get paid, the ability to have your talent recognised, belief in the direction of the organisation and so on.

A lot of our players would look completely different under some decent leadership on and off the pitch!!!!

If they are capable of it against Burnley - they are capable full stop.

Beyond that it's about MANAGEMENT - a drum I make no apology for banging for years...

I don't know if Nigel Pearson was familiar with Maslow's pyramid, but he seemed to have all of the motivational skills that were needed for the team to be successful. The very same skills that endeared him to the fans as well. Lowe could not or would not see this. His biggest ever mistake!
