every year I hear the same old ******** that the pre season left the players lacking fitness. Now on the same thread we have some pointing to the manager working them too hard and others pointing to them being unfit. So which is it? In my opinion the players look much fitter than last season, Lambert apart, and this had nothing to doi with the sacking.

Why would you take £1m? The guy has shown in four months that he has the pace, tricks, composure and the first touch to enable him to play at a much higher level. You don't get that on the cheap unless the selling club is on its knees. These proven strikers you talk about, who are they?

Dany N'Guessen will be extremely familar to Adkins from his time at Lincoln and its no surprise he went to Scunny on loan. I wonder if he would be willing to drop down a league of we offered a permanent deal? Up front Justin Richards at Port Vale is worth a look as is Craig Davies from Chesterfield. Gary Roberts, also at Port vale is highly regarded.

I doubt that is true. Adkins will have watched countless games like all managers do, not to mention have scouting reports on all NPC clubs. Having a Bury supporting mate I've watched quite a few lower league games in recent years and it wasn't too hard to spot talented players like Puncheon, N'Guessen, Stephen Dawson and Adomah. If you watch the games you will see the talent. I don't know if Adkins has an eye for a player, we'll see in time, but I would bet he has put the hours in, at a club like scunny what choice do you have but to search far and wide. You can't throw money at the problem that's for sure.

what difference does it make what season it is? If the right player is there from what ever level lets grab him. Admomah, Dawson and Dawson were all league 2 last season and available and we missed out. There is real talent available from League 2, players that can not only hold there own in League 1 but can play in the championship - exactly what we are after. In many ways these players are preferable to failed Championship players.

I thought Butterfield was appauling yesterday. Miles worse than Hammond. Miles. The throw in at the end straight to their striker...that was Butterfield and was just one small part of a terrible terrible overall showing. But you're not supposed to slate Butterfield though are you? Hammond is a much easier target. Why do fans not judge each player on each individual game rather than prejudging them based on other showings?
