On the subject, does anyone know how to burn audiobooks to CD? They're all protected even more vigorously than albums and it's ****ing me off.

You install iTunes on the new machine and authorise it to your iTunes store account. You have to manually transfer (CDR, DVDR, HDD) any stuff over that you ripped from CD or from unverifiable sources but any purchases on your iPod will be able to be transferred directly back from the iPod itself and probably won't transfer by any other method. I think. Personally, I didn't want to risk losing anything I'd bought so I burned CDs of all the albums I'd purchased first, but it worked fine.

We try so, so hard to be completely consistent but I'm sure you'll appreciate that with half a dozen people doing a similar job moderating posts, of which none are identical, there are bound to be discrepancies. I'm more confused as to why you'd report an already noted post.

Blimey Alps, why didn't you just PM me if you had an issue? I'd replied directly to the original post within 5 minutes, pointing out its hypocrisy so surely it was obvious that the matter was dealt with as far as I was concerned. Why bother to report a post that an admin had obviously seen? The point of the report to moderator button is to make the admin aware of a post they may have missed, whereas if you thought I mishandled the situation I would have welcomed a PM on the subject.

The trouble is, posts like yours may be well-meaning but they only perpetuate the problems on here. You accuse others of pontification and then are as guilty of it yourself. FWIW, I agree that a knee-jerk reaction isn't what's needed, but it's a 'luxury' afforded by the internet. The reactions may often be swift and ill thought out but they're only text, no one's outside SMS with flaming torches, so where's the harm?

I had a few beers at the bar at The Railway Inn, Botley with Peter Osgood towards the end of his life. My girlfriend at the time worked there and he was a regular visitor. He occasionally came in with other 'faces' from the era. Decent bloke - wasn't too keen on Venables' brother, who was with him once or twice, though.
