  1. Plenty of clubs with huge debts still buy players, maybe they are gambling on getting back to the Prem to pay them off. They still need a team and buying players from League 1 would be cheaper than buying Prem/Championship players. I'm not saying it's true, just saying it could be.
  2. I think we can assume Nick has tried (a) or (b) and has received neither.
  3. Your thoughts mean nothing because you don't go to games.
  4. Of course not. I'm just commenting on how things appear off the field, which isn't that important. It would be interesting to see how Lowe would fare with a billionaire's bank account to dip into though. We would definitely be able to read decent features in our local paper about Saints, read a matchday programme and pay for our ST's in installments if he was here though. We would also have a fan's forum, more ST holders and be able to voice our opinion without fear being banned.
  5. Why? Lowe managed to get a programme printed for every game. Lowe managed to communicate properly with fans. Lowe never resorted to banning the local paper. Lowe managed to set up a installment plan for fans to use. The fact that we are even discussing the chairman at a time when we should just riding the crest of a wave speaks volumes for what a **** Cortese is. Remember Cortese's job is way way easier than the one Lowe had - he didn't have a billionaire's cash to throw about.
  6. To be fair, football wise so far we have done OK, if he had done a "great" job then we would be in the Championship - remember he spent more than any other team EVER in this league and didn't even reach the play-offs. The test will be this season. Off the field Cortese makes Lowe look like a genius IMO.
  7. Surely this issue here is not wether you think Illingsworth is a **** or not but if you think it's right for a lifelong Saints fan to be denied a season ticket for voicing an opinion? If that is what has happened.
  8. You are probably right, but fact is many Saints fans (real ones that actually go to games), particularly the elderly rely on the Echo for news or enjoy reading about their team in the Echo. Cortese has shown complete disregard for this part of the Southampton community.
  9. If Cortese has banned Illingsworth from having a Season Ticket (and it wouldn't surprise me) then he is a complete c*nt, I can't believe anyone would defend the decision.
  10. Whilst I think Illingsworth is a **** it's still good to have some sort of fan's organisation IMO, especially with the way Cortese has been acting.
  11. Good news, speed cameras don't do a great deal for road safety IMO.
  12. It's difficult to measure accurately but it's not hard to see when someone's taking the ****. They were paying people who had little or no image millions, a crystal clear tax fiddle.
  13. ...and that's such a shame.
  14. 4 days a week is more than enough time to apply for jobs and arrange interviews. When I graduated from uni I worked full time (on a pittance while renting in London) while I applied and found a proper job.
  15. I would have a scheme where all people on job seekers have to work 3 days a week to receive their allowance (litter picking, cleaning graffiti etc), special jobs would be arranged for those on incapacity. Only the severely disabled wont have to earn their money. Also the tax system needs to be sorted so that lower paid workers are much better off than anyone on benefits.
  16. 5.25/1 at William Hill for Skates to go down and Saints to go up - might be worth a flutter. I think it will be tough for them even if they don't get a points deduction.
  17. Why do Saudi Arabia think they have the right to exempt people in France to do anything - bizarre.
  18. I know 2 people on incapacity benefit - both could work if they wanted to but choose not to because when you do the sums they are almost as well off just sat on their arse. I don't blame them either, why bust your arse in some dull job when you don't have to. The system needs to change.
  19. easy
  20. That is a fantastic read: "It began with Portsmouth's utter lack of appeal beyond England's southern shores, resulting in an announced crowd of just 8,987" " Portsmouth got stuck in Chicago because of a flight cancellation and didn't arrive in Washington until Saturday morning. The players made it; their uniforms did not." "Australian forward Danny Allsopp needed just 30 minutes to equal his scoring total in 12 MLS appearances (two goals) and finished with a hat trick. " "Once we found our rhythm and started going at them, they decided to foul us on every other play." "After David Nugent missed a sure equalizer from six yards, Quaranta squared the ball to Allsopp, whose first touch was too heavy. He recovered possession, however, carved some space and neatly side-footed a 10-yarder into the lower right corner." "It was hot," United defender Carey Talley said, "and they were grumpy." LOL - It looks like this summer is just a mere break in the ongoing pompey comedy show.
  21. I would still build the carriers but pull out of pointless wars abroad like Afganistan and scale back the forces accordingly. The new Trident is a complete waste of money, just keep the old one. Might work, might not - either way it's still a deterrent.
  22. I'm pretty sure that survey was done on-line, and as such is complete ******.
  23. No, we've got a billionaire. If we sell Lallana we just buy a better one, that's how it works now.
  24. I agree, we were dog **** last season until we added Papa Waigo and Antonio. Pace up front is vital.
  25. Of course League games are more important but the end of last season will be a distant memory come the Plymouth game, surely if a "winning mentality" is so important then the results of ALL games matter. A professional competitor should want to win all the time, wether it's jumpers for goal posts or a cup final.
