Agreed, I always thought he looked alright when he played but it was obvious those at the club didn't rate him early on.

No problem with AM being Southampton's long term number 2 and I assume FF has said definitively he wont sign a new contract under any circumstances. However, hopefully FF and the club are still on good terms as AM is a pretty poor number 1 and at the very least we need some decent competition this season.

I think he'll suit having a left back next to him who pushes up the pitch more and allows him to cut in. I've always felt his strongest "zone" is hovering centrally about 30 yards out where his flair and creativity can make things happen.

We must be "looking" for another goalkeeper, it's by far our weakest position. Whether we're looking particularly hard or can actually afford to spend any real money is a different question.

If we can get our defence to play with any consistency then I think we should be fine. We have more about us than the 6 who have lower odds than us but we must be one of the most erratic teams in premier league history so who knows.

I don't think there is anything necessarily wrong with zonal marking and it is far less restrictive than person-to-person marking if done well. The issue is that our defenders are positionally pretty poor which means they often leave gaps or channels that attackers can easily move in to. One thing I will say, is that our back 4 is 100% different to the one that played most of last season so it's fair enough that there is a bit of adjustment time.

100%. Not having a proper defensive midfielder for most of the second half of last season made a huge difference, can't believe there is a good chance we wont be bringing in another.

Clearly a good player for squad depth as he can play in two much needed positions and offers different strengths to our other CBs. Can't imagine he'll be first choice though.

How have people not worked out how baseless whataboutery is by now? Doing loads of great things and one thing that's morally dubious is better than doing no good things.

Don't want to lose him but £50 million for a free kick specialist is a load of money.
