Being a permanent signing took me by surprise but fantastic news. This is a GK that would improve the majority of teams in the league, let alone a side who are fighting for survival. I've seen some re-writing of history about his ability today on X etc, but he is fantastic and is a huge coup for us.

I hope he can bring that to Saints. So many times on Saturday Arma made the out to in run off he ball and no-one attempted to find him. Like the sound of this signing.

If you can be bothered with the rigmarole of changing your app store over, signing up and streaming it from your phone, Peacock is a good option. You pay $5 a month and can watch every game. Allegedly.

I think he's a good commentator, but imo, falls in to the trap that a lot of the modern commentators fall into, giving their opinions on things like in game tactics, performance etc. Thats the roll of the co-commentator. Sam Matterface being the biggest example of it. He also, again imo, brings too much of the "twitter" pov across. I get to those who religiously lap that stuff up, but it really is a micro-chasm of fan sentiment

What a decent season looks like for a poor PL team
Mr Nimbus replied to benjii's topic in The Saints
On average, over the last 10 years its something like just shy of 34 points. The average goals scored by the teams finishing 17th in the Premier League over the last 10 seasons is **38.6** goals per season, while the average goals conceded is **58.7** goals per season. Chat GPT didn't include last season for some reason. -

Cant wait for my in flight WiFi to pack up just as we score a last minute winner -
Along this theme, I shall be mid flight when we KO on Sunday. Hoping the inflight WiFi holds up and they keep the mini beer cans coming

This is the thing. I was looking yesterday and in the last 10 seasons, only three teams have got in the playoffs conceding the amount of goals we have. Only one of those won promotion too, Aston Villa. I'm still onboard with RM but it's wavering. Even if we don't go up this season (I cant see it as we seemingly can't handle it when the pressure is really on) I'd give him till Xmas and see the lay of the land.

As I expected my current seat will be impacted by the changes next year. Nice that I will get the opportunity to move elsewhere before general sale. I'm currently back row and stand so it's a no-brainer to get a standing ticket in the Northam next season (price dependant)
-
I wonder if RM may revert back to a diamond midfield, similar to how we did after our 4 game losing streak. Brooks behind AA and Che perhaps.
-
That first half was baffling. I thought Martin should have looked to address the man marking job their number 5 did on Stu. He was absolutely all over him. I think we need to find a way to get Brooks in the team from the off and then there's one spot open on the left (AA will always start for Martin and despie recent performances his figures support that) I was really surprised to see Charles on the bench, we simply had no-one who could link it in CM. Long way to go but I think we're going to need to win 8-10 games which is a huge ask, but not unachievable with this squad.

Thats the key thing. It will also likely become even more of a priority now due to FFP, and "homegrown" players being classed as pure profit. You've seen it with City selling Palmer to Chelsea and obviously as you say us signing a fair few (and probably signing THB if we get promoted)
-
3-1 Saints I reckon. I was impressed with them in the reverse fixture, whilst acknowledging they've been pretty poor away. Edozie and 2 for AA is my bet.
-
2-0 Saints. Bit edgy towards the end but we will see it through.
-
Add in Flynn Downes getting up to full speed, who is incredible at this level and protects our back 4 so well.

Really enjoyed Saturdays performance. A good end to a tough week. Thought Manning had the best game I have seen him have for us this season, Downes was tremendous as was Adam Armstrong. Huge credit to him also for the desire to score that second goal. They didn't show it in the replays but he (like Alcaraz) got pole axed in the build up, but he got up got in a goal scoring position and wanted it more.
-
I really felt for A Armstrong in the first half. He made at least 6 runs in behind, on every occasion we took that extra touch or pass in CM and his run is wasted. We were much better when we increased our urgency. Positives are its another win, clean sheet and 10 unbeaten. If we can beat Cardiff on Saturday its a decent week.

Hopefully we can continue our recent performances of flying out early at SMS. I think this will be tight but we will nick it 2-1

Sorry I wasn't particularly specific. I in no way miss the PL. The main reason I don't, and clubs can state it's not the case, football is now a television product. It's geared towards people around the world, sat in the comfort of their armchairs. VAR, to me is the biggest showing of the hand on this. It's not to get the "correct outcome" (too many of the laws are subjective to ensure this anyway) I think it's purely to enhance the TV experience. Just my opinion of course.
-
The PL has many positives, that mainly relate to the club itself. Increased TV revenue, exposure & higher commercial opportunity. The PL has overtime, eroded the game of it's connection with the fans. So I really am not sure where I stand anymore.
-
Also helped that RVP had one of the best individual seasons in PL history. When all the talk goes on about United and their crap recruitment, I often think player X would have already been at United under Ferguson. Kane, Grealish and Bellingham al spring to mind. As for Tino, he's class, we all know he's class and he will be England's Kyle Walker successor at RB after the next Euros I reckon (Injury's permitting)
-
It's more the overall body of work I am using to make my point with. I'm not writing him off, I'm looking to get thoughts of other fans on his ability.
-
Good result. Both CB's impressed me as did Downes. Sort of game you forget instantly and look back on at the end of the season as one of those gritty away day's that were a crucial part of a promotion season (hopefully) That "finish" from Mara though, absolutely dreadful. Is there a player that can consistently contribute for us?
-
Pretty sure he will be out the door in Jan

I really wanted this to work out, but I just can't see it doing do. Thing is we've put all our eggs in this basket. I'm certain that with some decent (and arguably simple) structural changes on the pitch, protecting the defence a bit more and defending properly, this squad is easily a top 6 team. I like Martin but he's nailed to his "system" and I think it will cost him (and us)
