Well, you know what they say - there's no smoke without fire...
-
It does rather - maybe Yul Brynner for the lead though. I just wish we had a loanee called Schtum who we wanted to sign permanently. Maybe it will happen one day - you can't stop a man dreaming...

I remember that. I went. We lost. Best to let Adkins and the team concentrate on winning the game I reckon.

Judging by his posts later on, it was probably Dune.

Gregory Isaacs, aka the Cool Ruler, has died of cancer at the age of 59. A great singer with an unmistakeable voice, once referred to by an NME writer way back in the 80s as 'the only man cool enough to wear flares and get away with it'. He made some fabulous records; Night Nurse is probably his best known, but there were plenty more, especially during his peak period of the late 70s and early 80s. RIP Gregory.

The link to their club statement, which didn't work for me earlier, is: http://www.portsmouthfc.co.uk/LatestNews/news/Portsmouth-Football-Club-Update-1527.aspx Very brief and says that the sale has completed, hence they are now able to trade outside administration. No mention, though, of the golden share. And, as others have stated, they now have no protection from creditors. How exactly are they going to be funding the wage bill? They won't do it on their gate money, and parachute payments are still being used to pay football creditors. Not for the first time, things really don't add up down there.

We cashed in the sell-on clause before the start of the 2008/09 season, not when we were in administration. So no, we won't be getting any sell-on money. Looking on the bright side though, we got Tommy Forecast as part of that deal...

True, but then Stu's not posting these days.

To be fair though, confusing 'Victory' and 'Kon Tiki' is a very easy mistake to make...

You've proved my point very nicely there, just as I expected you would. Well done.

Well, I liked some of the Bruins ones, especially the leaving early and shirt ones. As for Turkish, I can't help feeling that he'll never be happy until he comes to terms with his true self. Let's face it, all that macho posturing, misogynist bile and aggressive masculinity can only point in one direction.

Isn't it about time for the prof to pop up and chide us for being so beastly to poor Anthony and tell us how, if we only gave him a chance, he could prove to be a really useful player? The thread's more than two hours old now, after all.

I think you're giving him undue credit there - to know whether he likes sex he'd need to have experienced it! Maybe we should treat Ossie with sympathy; he clearly suffers from a well-merited inferiority complex, which he's desperately and unsuccessfully trying to conceal behind a veil of phony bravado. The saddest thing is, though, that it's not even a very good inferiority complex.

I'm sure the stories about Pardew and players' wives were nonsense - a rehash of similar rumours from a few years back, with no verifiable foundation to them. But what did happen? What is it that Cortese should come out and admit? You say you've already let a lot of people know, so presumably your information is 100% accurate. I'm still very much in the dark and I'd love some enlightenment - if you can produce something to back it up so much the better.

Ian Turner in goal for certain. Ivan Golac at right back, Dave Watson and Chris Nicholl in central defence - can't think of a suitably ugly left back, though Gareth Bale is pretty simian so maybe he'd qualify. Terry Hurlock and Graham Baker in central midfield. Charlie George and Iain Dowie up front. There - just needs two ugly wingers and maybe a hideous left back.

Is it just me, or does he look like a life-size Thunderbirds puppet?

Bournemouth chairman "not welcome" directors box (sigh)

Well, the first bit may or may not be true; I guess you'd have to know David Jones to know that - do you? The second part is just daft - he is (or perhaps was, depending on the truth or otherwise of this rumour) the financial director. What would he have to do with the appointment and management of football staff? -
Ossie is my favourite poster. I think we should all refer to him as "The Ossmeister" as a mark of our respect. He rocks!

Quite right too - shocking when people just go with the mob. Oh. Hang on a minute... So let's get this clear then. You've never seen him play, but you're happy nonetheless to judge him in a positive light and to castigate those who do otherwise. This in spite of the fact that his record of clubs and appearances over the better part of a decade speaks volumes. All of which begs the question: why do you feel this pressing need to defend Pulis? Let's face it, this isn't the first time you've leapt to fight his corner. You don't do the same for Forecast, so what's so special about Pulis?
-
The OS still says a two-year contract with an option for a third - where did you hear that it was three all along? Not disbelieving you here; in fact, it would make sense if he's on a three-year contract, as it explains his continuing presence in the squad.
-
Speaking as one who saw him play in a reserves match, I fully concur with Richmond (and, I'd guess, anybody else who actually has seen him play) on his abilities; he looked way off the pace and totally clueless at that level, so I hate to think how he'd look in the first team. That said, Adkins has clearly decided that he's worth a shout on the bench, so we'll see what happens should he ever get to leave it. And why do you assume that those who have disparaged Pulis are merely following the mob, or that he was disliked because he was signed when he was? Does it not occur to you that people may have looked at his career to date (precious few starts in all those years of trying, plus of course his signally unsuccessful loan spell with Lincoln City last season) and formed a judgement based on that? Do you give no one credit for that level of independent thought? As a matter of interest, have you ever seen him play? You're always very keen to defend him, so I couldn't help but wonder.

I think the requirement of being educated to degree level may be a stumbling block. After all, it would imply that Stu had been a student at some point.

So, let's see now. You'll be going to some games and not to other games. Have you checked the word 'boycott' in your dictionary lately?

Ever thought of changing your user name to Frank Sinatra?

Les Reed - has and will have NOTHING to do with the first team

Excellent post, very well put.
