Europa League 2016/2017 (Died 8/12/2016)
Pat from Poole replied to ScepticalStan's topic in The Saints
I think the £50 differential on the Israel price depends on whether you have a room to yourself in the digs or share a twin room. -
Rubbish. The only song like that I heard in the first half was "There's only one Alan Shearer" to wind the Sun'lan lot up. Upset them a bit, I think.
-
Agreed. I was in Block 01/02, and I never heard anybody singing "One Ronald Koeman".
-
I was in the Itchen North, and thought we got properly behind the team today.

2-2 actually. With great thanks to Inzaghi for his injury-time equaliser. -
Saints Transfers Thread - Deadline Day
Pat from Poole replied to Saint Charlie's topic in The Saints
I fail to see why anybody would want to be in the trenches with you. You are a bell-end. -
He has looked promising. I'm particularly impressed by Hjobjerg. I think he looks mustard.

I think it's hard to gauge from friendlies where the pace of the game is that much slower. I think that in a normal Prem game, the pace of Long and Redmond should ensure that oppo defences play quite deep and we can push up the pitch. Tadic's creativity will be key though.
-
It's a better picture on Fox Sports 1 NL on Sports Mania. With Dutch commentary admittedly, but does have action replays. So you can see multiple angles of their rough treatment of Nathan Redmond.
-
They should have got further as well. Seem to remember Dortmund scoring extremely late in the QF to knock Malaga out when they were heading through to the SF's.

Who has left Saints and gone on to better things?
Pat from Poole replied to Ade's topic in The Saints
Bale Shearer Flowers Ruddock Rideout Rod Wallace I'll think of a few more. -
Not making excuses for the fans, but sometimes it helps if the games are really entertaining, and / or if Saints are playing really high-tempo aggressive football. We'll tend to do that more at home games than away games. I also think the lack of tackling does little for the atmos. Many a time this season, I've thought that if a neutral were watching a Saints game, they would have been utterly bored. However, I don't blame Koeman, I'd far rather we were hard to beat than a pushover.

I think Alan Mullery had a lot to do with it.

Whenever I've gone this way, I've had bad queues on Avon Causeway or Hurn Bridge. Saints fans need to be setting off early for this game. You should allow for an hour and a half journey time.
-
Agreed. Ashley Cross has the best pubs in Poole / Bournemouth, and the least number of idiots.
-
Agreed. I live in Poole and work in Basingstoke, and it's a nightmare. If you're driving from Southampton, I'd be inclined to come off the M27 at Junction 1, and take the road to Lyndhurst and then on to Christchurch. It is quite a detour, but you won't spend so long queueing. Either way, I'd be looking to get the train if I was a Saints fan at this game.

I struggle to see him getting many games at Arsenal. I'm sure Wenger will have noted his disciplinary record this season, and Arsenal aren't exactly short of midfielders. I suspect that if Arsenal had signed Alderweireld in the summer, they would have virtually won the League by now.

Liverpool Game to possibly move to Sunday
Pat from Poole replied to marc_saint's topic in The Saints
Frankly I'm surprised that Matthew Le God has the temerity to post on football messageboards after I stated on this board last summer that Jamie Vardy was a proper striker, and he was highly sceptical. His general "I know more than anybody else" attitude is utterly bereft of credibility. -
I don't believe there are any streams available for the Palace game. Sports Mania aren't showing it.

How long before you/we start to get really worried
Pat from Poole replied to Batman's topic in The Saints
Totally agree with this. A couple of good players from the Championship (I'd suggest from Leeds) would freshen things up a bit. I think it's unrealistic to expect Charlie Austin to be coming to Saints. -
Thanks very much, have just given this a try.
-
What's happened to Offside Streams? This used to be my back-up option if Sports Mania was playing up, but it seems to have become a different site now, and isn't accepting my username / password combo. And won't let me reset my password, as it doesn't recognise my E-mail address. Looks like it may be the end of the road for that option. Shame, as it was decent.

Really can't see it. Morgan is one of the best midfielders in Europe. Was at the Arnhem away game and talking to some locals, they couldn't see Clasie being a success in the Prem. In their view he was too slow and too small to make an impact. I've watched a lot of the Eredvisie on SKY. I could tell from watching this that he clearly has an eye for a pass, and a lot of Feyenoord's goals came from his assists. However the Prem demands an all-action game that I don't think he is capable of.
-
We need to be looking at players from the Championship to sign in January, as we did with Clyne and Rodriguez when we came back up to the Prem. The players we brought in to the club in the summer were poor signings, with the exception of Stekelenberg. VVD is OK on the ball, but a liability at the back. January will tell us a lot about Koeman and his vision for Saints.

I love standing in the Itchen Corner. On a good day against a half-decent set of away fans, it's absolutely brilliant in there, we could do with just a few more singers in there though.
