Summer 2018 - Other teams Manager/transfer business
Saint Garrett replied to Batman's topic in The Saints
Promoted clubs certainly investing, can’t see Wolves or Fulham going down to be honest. -
From what I’ve heard our top earner is on £80k, Forster on £65k/£70k pw
-
Not what I heard? I heard £60k, where have you seen he's on £100k? Everytime I see his contract being discussed it seems to go up by £10k
-
Yep - don't disagree, it was the games against the bottom half last season which killed us, especially at home. Everyone is making a few decent signings though, theres always one or two "shocks" who are down there, so interesting to see who they are this year...possibly Watford, Newcastle, Burnley depending on how they get on with Europe.
-
Yep - would be another difficult season though with few wins. Guessing thats what the season handicap betting is based on, would be tempted to bet on Fulham for that,
-
Whereas I thought we had a squad who was solid enough with 2 large weaknesses...at the back and up front, and this was exactly our issue...games which we used to win 1-0 away, we were losing 2-0 becuase of both boxes. We still have questionable players in those two departments and I don't see us finish top half without Vestergaard being a huge step up, and Austin magically being fit all season and offering something outside the 6 yard box.
-
Who's likely to take him? Why would anyone take him as a first choice keeper in the prem? Why would clubs in the championship take him on his wages? It's going to be difficult getting anything worthwhile for him, given every club will know we need to get rid of him. I always thought we wouldn't bring in Gunn if we didn't already have Forster a move lined up. I still think he isn't as bad as what some people make out with a more structured defence in front of him. He probably needs a season in the championship to build back up his confidence, he still has worldy saves in him, he just lets too many easy ones in, especially from distance.
-
Davis and Long both fine squad players, Davis should 100% Stick about given how long he’s been here and his likely influence in the dressing room. Would get rid of Stephens if anyone would take him.
-
So West Ham Looking to offload Kouyate and Obiang at the moment...they’ll be bringing in another CM if true, hopefully that’s not Lemina

Rob Green to......Chelsea...that’s the end of the Forster hope then... -
Llorente also available - would 100% take him on a short term deal
-
Don't think we stood much chance of selling him given his not so great season last season, relatively large wages for that league, unlikely to pay us money for him.
-
They also won the open on Sunday as well apparently...
-
If you had the choice now you'd probably pick West Ham...richer, bigger club, bigger stadium, more potential short term, building something with a decent manager and not afraid to spend some money, but surely they wouldn't be able to afford him just by FFP.
-
Well Lemina isn't going to go for less than £50m I would have thought, and pretty sure there's no way West Ham could afford that after the amount they've already spent.
-
Still need a CB and a ST, and arguably another wide player...work to be done...
-
City win the league Saints 14-17th. Leak too many goals and struggle to score West Ham / Wolves best of the rest Liverpool challenge for the title and win a trophy
-
Probably dont want to take the same risk...
-
Similar to you then
-
Alan Nixon is normally pretty much spot on too when he's talking transfers.
-
Probably also difficult as none of them are confirmed good enough for the prem, and are all on prem wages...not many clubs abroad can afford to pay that kind of money for these players so they'd be reluctant to go, hence the loans. The club is now paying for 4 dreadful transfer windows in a row.
-
Would happily take Origi, Welbeck or Batshuayi
-
Ah...my mistake, I read it as Southampton and Newcastle both interested in Origi and Ings
-
Not sure if credible, bearing in mind the Ings link.
-
Origi linked, I'd take him for sure,
