I was born in Scotland (Partick Thistle supporter) but my wife is from Southampton hence my Saints allegiance (btw, she hates football) ! I lived in Wokingham for 20 years and had ST's for me and my kids ! I lived in Belgium for another 20 years and still kept my ST's ! I have kids and grandkids in Belgium and Cape Town all of whom wear the kits and support the Saints ! You may find it weird but supporting Partick Thistle, Saints & Scotland I've never been accused of being a 'glory hunter' 😀 ! The original post in this thread is just bizarre as folks have their own reasons for supporting a team and geography is not by any means the sole factor ! As Rod Stewart once famously said "There are two things in life you cannot change - your mother and your football team" COYS 😇

My biggest concern over his ability was his reliance on stats etc.. his laptop never left his side and if the theory said to make a sub on 60mins then that's what he did irrespective of the flow of the game ! A good technical coach, probably. A manager probably not...

Shame you feel that way but I do think there is value in character and enthusiasm ! Sadly he was one of the few last season who showed these attributes and if some of the others had a similar attitude I'm sure that we'd have done better ! As I said before, he's no world beater but he's also not useless, sadly I think that he'll be leaving anyway which will be a loss to the squad IMO 😦

Most contracts have a built-in relegation drop in wages (normally 50%) so unless he is the big exception I doubt he'll get anything like Fulham terms by staying here 😐

I'd keep him because of his character and enthusiasm alone ! He brings a presence and I reckon that can brush off on some of the younger players ! Sure he is unpredictable and a yellow card always waiting to happen but I'd much rather have him than moody gits like Salisu 😃

I get that he hardly played but when he did his first touch was on a par with a dumper truck 😊 ! Having said that we are going to be in a lower league which may afford him a chance to shine but it really will be down to the manager to see if he can fit him into a regular system or perhaps even groom him as an 'impact sub' !! Personally I have my doubts but it might be worth keeping him rather than taking a whacking loss !!

It really all depends on what sort of team we are left with on Aug 4th although a Friday night away to newly promoted Sheff Wed has got defeat written all over it 😵

Sadly that has now become a 10 team Premier League as the other 10 have wealth way beyond the reach of those below ! If you want to be in the top half you either need 'blood money' or a bunch of Yanks clubbing together !! The likes of us, Burnley, Sheff U, Palace etc.. have no chance in the long term and yes I am aware that Brentford, Fulham, Brighton etc.. have had a good season but f'sure that ain't gonna last for too long.... 😬

I guess that after 50 years supporting the Saints that my mental health has settled into a steady mode of acceptance 😔 We do not stand alone in this as supporters of all teams who are near the drop zone vent their anger / frustration towards whomsoever is deemed to be the biggest culprit, normally the manager, the board or the players (and usually in that order) ! Today's blame culture demands this ! The fans of the likes of Everton and Leeds are much more vociferous than us and TBH I'm glad that we don't issue death threats etc.. to the board or players families (it is supposed to be a sport after all) ! At the start of this season many of us looked for the obvious relegation candidates but strangely none stood out, meaning that a larger number than usual were scrapping to be free of the bottom 3 ! It doesn't take too many cock-ups to reach that slippery slope, thereafter it becomes an uphill struggle, you start monitoring other teams results on a match by match basis and confidence ebbs away ! I'm sure that most would agree that the appointment of Nathan Jones was the monumental error from which we never recovered but my fervent hope is that the board will learn from this and we move into the Championship with a new outlook, fresh faces, a bit more experience and renewed optimism !! Come on you Saints😇

We have been incredibly badly managed throughout the season ! I reckon that this group of players is at least as good as 7 or 8 other teams above us but the constant chopping and changing coupled with over-complicated tactics and methods has killed us… We desperately need a manager who keeps it simple and motivates his squad ! All this crap about stats etc… is not the answer 🤨

It can be argued that they have spent their "blood money" better than most (eg. Chelsea) but it's still a fact that without a (circa) £300mil net spend they would be nowhere near where they are now... Unfortunately when the dust settles they will be like Man City and most will forget that they used to be a 'normal' club before being bought by a country for sport washing reasons 😔
