  1. There's a big difference between a care home and a football stadium (unless it's one of Redknapp's teams), and that is that £bn's is spent to watch people work in the stadium. Luke has a rare talent but the money he and others are on is reflective of that demand. No one objects when a rock star sells out Wembley, making millions. Football's just the same (divided by 22) with global TV money thrown in. Nice work if you can get it. Sent from my RM-821_eu_euro1_276 using Tapatalk
  2. Even with Suarez, Liverpool's title challenge was based on a great run of 8 or 9 straight victories at the tailend of the season, some which they spawned. With the burden of the CL, I think they'll struggle to make top 4 next year, without Suarez they're midtable. However, I do feel sorry for LFC, it's not fair that Suarez should be unsettled by newspaper reports, they'd never act in that way, would they?
  3. Let's shove it to the Scousers for their transfer by tabloid policy.... http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/liverpool-believe-lambert-lallana-lovren-3720762
  4. Sash or all red for me, I've never been a fan of stripes. However, I get that some people vocally want the stripes back and it is an easy fan pander PR move. Pity though.
  5. Pretty standard practice. New board comes in, states "this is a mess", and gets the kudos for fixing it. Naive in this situation as it set out the 'open for business sign, although that would have happened anyway once MP left. If MP did say one thing and do another I think the club are relatively blameless. You can't go round not trusting people as a norm.
  6. To be fair, general consensus is West Ham offered £5m and we said we wanted £8m. Situation with LFC is different. They've the big club draw, hometown club, no desperation factor and RL is older by 6 months.
  7. It would be interesting to know the wording of the email, not least because that can fundamentally change things. There's a big difference between, "I want out", "I want to see ambition", "I am concerned", "My preference is". As Lovren has said, he has a contract with Saints - short of going on strike he can be held to that. He's an important player for us (him and Wanyama were at the heart of our defensive strength) - and he's one of the spine that I think we need to keep hold of. Liverpool's dealing by press is getting shady and I, for one, hope they crash out of the CL next year whilst scrapping a Top 6 finish. Watch then as they ***** about the tabloid-ificiation of Suarez to Real rumours etc. They achieved CL qualification off the back of phenomenal run of wins post Christmas (some of which were quite spawny). They will undoubtedly get better with signings but there's a chance that, with the added burden of games, they hit a rut.
  8. I'm confused. When did Krueger announce there had been no offers? What he said was: "The preparation that’s been done by our scouts and recruiters make us feel we can move quite quickly to the next step to then present a shortlist of managers that we are considering, and then we can then move forward on the players, because we want the manager to make some decisions and be involved with who comes and goes, and they need to be able to continue to push the Saints forward." This being held up as saying we wouldn't sell anyone without a manager in place (it doesn't say that) and that we've had no offers (which was probably Reed a couple of weeks before the season ended). Am I looking at the wrong statement or is your outrage based on dodgy facts?
  9. Thank god for the team around Les Reed. They must have worked really hard to mask his incompetence as we went from L1 to 8th in the Premier League....
  10. But we were told on good authority that Liverpool had made a final offer and wanted to close the deal before the world cup, else they'll look elsewhere....... Personally Brendan Rogers / Lallana's Agents persistence in dealing through the press is getting on my wick. It would make me want to hold out for more, just to stick it to 'em. But then it's not my money
  11. I think the vitriol and "get rid" attitudes are just playing into the hands of a club (LFC) and players advisers who want the deal done via the press. I think it's sly of Liverpool who (quite rightly) have *****ed about their players being poached in this way. As a result I vote we stick to our guns and deal after the world cup. Sign as many shirts as you lil Adam, hell, sign Ian Rush's man boobs for all we care. You ain't going anywhere until we say so.
  12. Liverpool will finish 6th next season. Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man U, Everton. They had an amazing run at the end of last season, during which they spawned several matches. I doubt it's replicable and their defense is ****house.
  13. In fairness we were trying to flog him to West Ham in January. I still think we shouldn't be selling anyone before the World Cup.
  14. If I am being optimistic, I'd have been worried if the fee was 9m. If that was the case then I'd have seen it as a makeweight in any Lallana deal (designed to offset a sell on to Bournemouth). But I do think the board have made a mistake by not categorically ruling out sales before the world cup. As it is we seem open for business and not in control of things.
  15. Glad to see the cynics are out in force on this board and it doesn't matter what he says. People need to realise that the Swiss aren't flash or showy - they'll go on about their business quietly and not through the press (unlike the North London Yobbos). I'd like someone to tell me what Saints should have done to keep him? If the guy's heart was set on leaving for what (undoubtedly) is a 'bigger' club (albeit a bunch of *****), what could they have done? If you offer more money than Spurs, likelihood they still win because they can offer Europe and a higher profile. To be honest we lost MP the day that NC left - and many celebrated this ("we've got our club back" etc.), just like they did with Wilde - and then look what happened. That said, NC decided to leave because of the governance KL wanted and at the end of the day it's KL's club and KL's money, you can't blame her if she wanted more control over her asset. Has anyone noticed that one of the reason Spurs is attractive is the wealth of big name (albeit underperforming) talent they have? Any manager worth his salt would think I can do something with them. Ironic then that that talent that was (in part) paid for by our own Gareth Bale - giving up that sell on clause has hurt us in more ways than one.
  16. Onwards and upwards. I look forward to the last game of next season with Spurs needing 3 points away at St Mary's for CL qualification. I don't know which of, a last minute disputed RL equaliser or a 3-0 total football home win would give me the most pleasure. Either way, WTFWBLN? COYR Sent from my RM-821_eu_euro1_276 using Tapatalk
  17. It's a sad day for football. Effectively it says, as if we didn't already know, that money talks. Our club which has nurtured and been lauded for its youth policy is open to be dismantled by clubs that can offer competitions and salaries we can't match. I do fear a domino effect of MP's departure What's the point then of developing youth, unless for the business of selling them on? I like MP but I hope Spurs turns out to be a mistake. Not necessarily to punish him but to see the smugness wiped off Levy's face - because I've no doubt they'll be using MP to turn some of our players heads. That said, I've renewed, so **** everyone else. COYR. Sent from my RM-821_eu_euro1_276 using Tapatalk
  18. Is Luke Shaw a bit thick? I ask because whilst he has is a class player, he keeps making the same mistakes again and again. Not on the pitch but on Social Media. Although he's part of Generation Me, everything out there etc., you think he would have learnt that his Twitter actions have ramifications. Adkins, Dodd, liking a comment about joining Manu, now this. All things he has done and subsequently undone. Everyone makes mistakes but you have to learn from them. My recommendation Luke is to stay at St Mary's for a couple more years until you've nailed this Social Media malarky.
  19. It's Spurs' training ground players entrance according to the Spurs forum: http://www.spurscommunity.co.uk/index.php?threads/the-case-for-poch-to-be-new-manager-thread.108916/page-116 On that basis I'd say that his kids being there is a bad thing - suggests it is more of a done deal. That said it could have been taken in the wooing phase - did anyone see Poch out and about yesterday?
  20. I don't think he's right. It may or may not be the Spurs training ground but I don't think it's St Mary's - dark blue wall covering (fits with Spurs) but could be anywhere. If it is Spurs, strange you'd take your kids though - loose lips sink ships etc. The picture itself looks like it has been taken through a window but the original photo has no EXIF data (I'm sad, I checked) so the only way we'll be certain is if someone recognises it. Even if it is Spurs' training ground, it doesn't mean it's a done deal. There's no doubt MP is talking to Spurs, it's a question of whether he is seduced by the prospect of managing them. In someways they are an attractive proposition, in fact it reminds me of when Harry went there. Lot's of investment on top players who can't play together - the question MP has to answer is whether he could get them to click. His brand of high energy football needs a certain type of player - and he might find that hard to imprint on a bunch of individuals. On the flip side, when he came to Saints he inherited a team with a close bond, a very big difference - and Levy is a trigger happy SoB. The fact that he's talking to them, suggests he wants to further his career. If he does stay with Saints it will either be because of a statement of intent by ourselves, or because Spurs have chosen someone else. I wouldn't bet either way at present.
  21. "Next week" is the new "this week"
  22. There's a lot to be said for the OP's opinion, in fact all that is required is a "Saints Go Wilde" t-shirt and we have an uncanny link to past history. That said, it matters not whether NC or RK is at the helm - it was KL's chequebook behind the scenes so the outcome is likely to be the same.
  23. Nice vote to rig. I've voted for Skrtll - he's a modern day centre back with a name suitable for txt msging http://www.thisisanfield.com/2014/05/skrtel-vs-caulker-vs-lovren-complete-defender/
  24. I think it's realistic. If you're ambitious and mid twenties then you need to be playing CL football. I can't believe Saints will do that next season so do you stick or twist, knowing that you've got maybe 7 seasons left? Not enough Mananas for Lallana Sent from my RM-821_eu_euro1_276 using Tapatalk
