There's not really any Championship games until mid December, at least that's what it says when I look on Flashscore.

I'm sure we will have some friendlies. Going to be plenty of clubs with a load of players kicking about doing nothing. Could arrange a Nathan Jones derby with Luton.
-
I need to know whether Nathan Jones is a hipster choice as manager. The phrase is often bandied around but I'm never truly sure what it means other than "a manager I've never heard of". If it had been a bloke who'd done well in the Italian lower leagues I'm guessing it would be a hipster choice, but does the fact he's Welsh and was managing Luton mean he's exempt from this label?

He's a good player. No idea what was going on with his time here but nice to have another Saints link however tenuous. Uruguay must have the oldest defence in their squad. I'm sure Godin is about 45.

Saints 1-1 (p6-5) Sheffield Wednesday - Match Thread
The Cat replied to Picard's topic in The Saints
He kicks the ball like a 12 year old who forgot his boots and had to borrow a pair 2 sizes too big from the PE cupboard. -
At the back the roof obscures the view of anything in the air, there are a few seats up there which are pretty bad but people generally shuffle across or squeeze in somewhere else so they can see better.

Do you want Nathan Jones to Manage Southampton Football Club?
The Cat replied to Rivers's topic in The Saints
I'm saying no based on the fact that I want to manage Saints and am extremely miffed about being overlooked again. -
I never realised that was his middle name. Quite surprised really as it seems slightly out of kilter with his religious upbringing.

Good luck to him. Looking forward to seeing how he tries to turn things around. New managerial appointments are always big moments in a clubs history and I hope this is a successful one. I find some of the posts on here and other places online very strange. Surely the first thing to do is wish the bloke good luck rather than slag him off for not being someone else.
-
This is a much more balanced post than some of the others which write him of as being shit despite him being very young and inexperienced. When we brought youngsters through previously it was always in a team with a lot of other experienced players. Now we are lobbing them all in at once and it's making it very tough for some of them. Individually we have some excellent young players who I have no doubt will go on to have great careers, but they need time to bed in and kick on rather than having to all do it together in the full glare of the Premier League. It's probably tougher for a keeper to do that than it is for the outfield players.
-
Yes, he's not shit at all. People are just so reactionary. None of the goals were his fault but because they all went in he's now apparently a terrible keeper when a couple of weeks ago he was excellent. Feel really sorry for him that he is trying to get a foothold in the Premier League at an extremely young age for a keeper while playing in front of moron supporters who don't understand goalkeeping but are happy to give him shit anyway.

Saints 1-4 Newcastle - Match Thread
The Cat replied to Ivan Katalinic's 'tache's topic in The Saints
Pretty sure it wasn't in the Family Stand as I sit there and didn't notice it. Saw a Newcastle fan wearing a shirt in our stand getting escorted out by a steward before kick off, didn't see any others after that though. However it's clearly becoming more of a problem week after week and it's obvious that the club are either too weak to do anything about it or just don't care. Really don't see what the problem is with just kicking them out. They are breaking ground rules so can't really argue. It's a complete disgrace. -

Should be 1-1, horrendous miss. We're obviously squeezing play by pushing defence forward. Not trying to play out from the back. Direct balls forward and pick up possession from there. Better than the way we played first half at Palace that's for sure. Stuart Armstrong stand out player in the first half, good to see Lavia back on the pitch. -

Wasn't expecting Walcott to start. Seems a bit random, but it did make me laugh when I saw it and thought about how many people on here it would piss off. Good to see Bella-Kotchap back, feel a bit sorry for Caleta-Car though as he's not done anything wrong. -
What links are there likely to be with Saints at the World Cup? Ex players included. Mane - Senegal Yoshida - Japan Bednarek - Poland Boufal - Morocco Salisu - Ghana Hojbjerg - Denmark Lovren - Croatia Bale - Wales Are there any more? I don't think Cedric gets in the Portugal squad these days, and surely Denmark have found some better CB's then Vestergaard. Caleta-Car for Croatia?

The creams are the best and toffee penny is shit, partly because it lacks chocolate but also because it has the potential to remove a filling. How about ranking the tubs of chocolate from best to worst? 1. Quality Street 2. Heroes 3. Roses 4. Celebrations

They absolutely pummeled Exmouth. Superb performance, could have scored 6 or 7. Brad Targett scored an absolutely brilliant goal, won the ball just inside the Exmouth half, beat about 4 players, cut back inside and smashed it in with his weak foot. One of the positives about the World Cup and no Saints games is the chance to watch Sholing more often.

First one I properly remember is Mexico 86 which was probably my favourite due to me being 10 and massively overexcited with the opportunity to watch loads of football on live TV and seeing players I'd only heard of before. I have vague memories of 82 and watching it on a tiny TV while we were on holiday in Spain. Found I've become less fussed about World Cups over the years, maybe that's due to football fatigue and having the ability to watch so much of it throughout the year compared to when I was younger. Will no doubt watch some of it but by means will I prioritise it over other stuff I have on. I'm sure there will be a lot of people working from home a bit extra so they can have it on while working.

Amazing goal from Connor Wickham. Obviously the big game of the day is Sholing v Exmouth. 1st v 2nd. Will be heading up there in a bit.

Anywhere east of Bursledon over the bridge at Lower Swanwick is a bit sketchy as far as I'm concerned, although now I work right in the middle of Portsmouth I have to say I have come around to begrudgingly admitting that Southsea is alright.

Spurs losing, haha.

Sliders. I thought flip flops were bad enough but these are 100 times worse. Also people that turn up to 5 a side wearing them to the astro before changing into trainers they could have just worn on the way anyway.

The worst thing about this game is going to be the arrogance of their fans. I hope they never win anything.
