You are mixing up two things being run as a business and only spending the cash you have generated. Basically a business can either only spend the cash they have generated or they can speculate, but both methods are illustrations of 'being run as a business'. I see no problem with spending cash beyond our current revenue that we can comfortably service.

The problem with the Bents going for such money makes the big clubs want to sign younger players even more. A missed opportunity to buy someone for 6mil could turn into a 20mil price tage later on down the line. The big clubs then loan out the player which distorts the whole league and if they don't make it then they get sold to a middle ranking prem club with no loss. Ban the loan system (except in extreme circumstances) and allow young talent to stay with their nurturing club a little bit longer.

Or players moving downwards or sidewards to a team with better prospects. Like Fonte and Lambert.

I really don't think many are advocating the purchase of cover players, what div 3 side can have that luxury and besides thats what the researve team is for. People are more concerned about bringing in targeted players that will strengthen the first team, players of the Fonte ilk, who could go elsewhere but choose SFC because they understand our potential. So maybe it's worth trying to pull one of them in now instead of the summmer, it may be a bit more costly but it's the safe thing to do. Our squad will be up there with the best buy if you have the cash and the promise of possible promotion then I why not use it.
