Lallana has been superb for us this season, in part I think because the team has been constructed to play to his strengths. Shaw imo could go on and be a success anywhere. Sell either of them for £30m (but not both) would potentially strengthen the team with two incoming key players and a couple of squad members. Its a nice position to be in, not cue for a massive panic.

Cant understand the calls for Laudrup - he's been sacked twice for being lazy and disengaged - the diametric opposite of the high tempo strong work ethic that has got Saints this far.

Would be a perfect replacement for Pochettino in that respect then.

You 100% might do. Saints are short in key areas across the team. We need at least one more goal scorer, probably two; another creative player even if Lallana stays and a quality goalie. Price and value are two different things, price changes with the wind. 'Flop' Bale was available for a reported £3m three years ago. Selling for £30m is good business if you use the proceeds well, bad mistake if you dont.

Even then is Wanyama (£13m) really so much better than Cork (£750,000)? Saint's big money signings have mostly turned out badly - why would an established multi million pound player want to come to Saints given only average wages and no CL? We should concentrate on the best young players from the Championship, those who see Saints as step up and have the capacity to improve with coaching and experience.

The top six clubs are internationally / globally known names which is attractive to sponsors with international / global brands. Everybody else is scrabbling around for those companies who have either zero profile but want some, some kind of local connection or are betting companies. Established national companies won't sponsor football because its too tribal, they want to appeal to everybody. It makes no marketing sense to spend money to raise your public respect in Southampton / Aston villa / Newcastle but lower it Portsmouth / Birmingham / Sunderland.

Maybe. You could also argue he continued to stay loyal / hang around despite his best players being sold until he got sacked. Either way it suggests he maybe isnt the kind to walk away. Managers, much more than players, tend to have wives, kids at school etc. Picking up and moving every year or so is no quality of life for them.

It depends what the background is imo. Sometimes it can look great, but sometimes 'flat' and 'stuck on'. Framing would make it look more consistent.
