Well spotted Sir.....what's that all about then....? Perhaps the leading goalscorer in the first ever St Mary's YMA team was called Norman? Or something more cryptic perhaps....?

Just watched this again.....gave me goosebumps on the day and still gets me a little emotional.... COME ON YOU SAINTS (aka REDS) :-)

So, just for clarity, we're no closer to knowing what the delay was? p.s. loud chortle at the Laurel and Hardy pic above :-)

Round of applause sir. I've never worked out why, if the mines were a profitable going concern in the 70s/80s then why didn't someone offer private money or a management/staff buyout to take them off the State's hands? Perhaps, just perhaps, they weren't a going concern?

A question from Mrs Trousers: "is it a cotton based material like rugby shirts are made from or is it still that horrid shiny polyester crap that most 'soccer' shirts are made from?" Thanks in advance for your insightful replies...

I wonder of they'll be parading some of the new beer that we're anticipating?

Totally agree. I read yesterday that c.40% of American pension funds have a significant stake in BP too, so Obama's hypocritical rhetoric is affecting his own people. I also don't see him tearing into Halliburton (the american company who supplied the faulty part in the first place) with as much vigor either. Funny that.

Posting on threads the topic of which you don't care about? It'll never catch on IMHO.... ;-)

The c.30% mark-up rate on doing it that way (for all games) might be an inhibiter to some.

Hmmm....always trust the words of a football manager......

I actually think that's a valid perception of me. I do admit that I have a tendancy to come across as a devil's advocate sometimes but I put that down to being someone who tends to see both sides of a debate and therefore more often than not ends up articulating the other side of the coin. I don't believe I've ever said anywhere that your view on season ticket installments is in anyway invalid and have agreed with you on areas such as Saints Trust and Silverspoons in recent times. Apologies for rubbing you up the wrong way - not intended

I think what some posters are alluding to is that there are varying degrees of 'need'. I'm pretty sure that if you took away cars for one week and football matches another the country would suffer more with the car embargo than with the football match embargo. Ultimately we only 'need' food, water and shelter but I don't think that's the level that the 'essential vs non-essential' contributers are pitching their argument at.

Stu - genuine question....if all rational explanations for Cortese's actions have been explored and exhausted, what would your hunch be for why he did it? Do you not agree that he must have had a rational reason even if (a) you don't know what that reason is and (b) you don't agree with it? What's your hunch on why he's done what he has? (As I say, not a wind-up question, genuinely interested)

Whoops - that was me! You can get back to 'non-threaded' mode by going to another (shorter) thread in the same section and changing back to 'normal' mode, then when you go back in the longer (Pompey) thread it will be back to normal.

Jesus was born in July not December so technically Christmas is during the World Cup. That said, I would tend to agree that the first World Cup goal will be in June rather than July.

Genuine question: Does anyone know the stats for what percentage of teams in mainland Europe provide season ticket installment schemes, Italy and Switzerland in particular? Perhaps Cortese seems like he's out on a limb with this because we're just comparing it with other UK teams? We may find it's par for the course in other territories to not offer such schemes and that is where Cortese is getting his inspiration from? Once again, I'm not making a judgement on whether he's right or wrong, just trying to explore other avenues that might help to explain his rationale.
