They don't replicate league conditions as the are massively disjointed by large numbers of subs and players aren't motivated to perform in the same manner as a competitive game.

That is a strange reason not to want a player. The two you named are among the best in the world, hardly something to use as a stick to beat Giroud with. Pointless anyway as he is unlikely to be joining Saints any time soon.

Burnley are a well-drilled side that relies on team organisation and good management rather than a large number of standout players. That is why they haven't sold many. If the players we have sold had been Burnley players they would also have left, possibly even sooner than they did as our wage budget is a lot higher than Burnley's.
