Been watching several YouTube videos featuring the great Bert Jansch. Known primarily as one of the founding members of the folk-jazz group Pentangle. But he put out many excellent solo albums. Wonderful acoustic guitarist, who influenced many other musicians of his generation. And a fine songwriter, as well. This is the title track from an album released in 1973. A song from Ry Cooder's brand new album "The Prodigal Son". I'll be seeing him in concert later this month. [video=youtube;x-jtGorNE7Q]

Not from me. I like King Crimson. I interviewed Robert Fripp in Toronto in 1979, soon after "Exposure" was released. Very interesting guy. Also saw him do a solo "Frippertronics" show at the University of Waterloo.

Interesting. This brings to mind the film "Hidden Figures", which is about female African-American mathematicians working at NASA in the 1960s. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hidden_Figures

Well, I did say that I don't consider players role models. So, I didn't say Ronaldo was a negative role model. What I said was that he exemplified negative traits: specifically, he is a preening, self-centred, arrogant person. To use a modern cliche, it's all about him—always. No doubt he does show some positive traits, but—for me, anyway—they are overshadowed by his narcissism.

I've always believed that you support the professional team closest to where you grow up—or where you have decided to set up home. In that sense, you don't choose a team; the team chooses you. So, I would not be recommending Saints to anybody. If they're from the So'ton area, it ought to be their team anyway!

Two issues here: 1) question posed in post title (are players role models?); 2) Sterling's tattoo. 1) Players are not role models for me, but some exemplify positive or negative traits (positive—Le Tissier, Lambert; negative—Roy Keane, C. Ronaldo). 2) Sterling can put whatever tattoo he wants on his body, but he seems a bit confused. Why imprint permanently on his body the very thing he says he wants to avoid? Did he give a thought to what people might think his intention was; because it seems like the action of a gun-lover.

Charmed by the so-called witty repartee, apparently.

Child: "Are we there, yet?" Adult: "No, dear, we have to leave our town, get on the motorway, and drive for 35 miles." Child: "Are we there yet? It's going to be a disaster, if you keep me waiting for my tea." Adult: "It will be about 40 minutes until we get there." Child: "Are you kidding me? That's too long. Why does it always take too long?" Adult: "Well, the traffic's bad today. Don't worry, dear; we'll be there before you know it." Child: "You always say that. I don't trust you anymore." Adult: "Well, I'm sorry about that. You'll just have to be patient, won't you." Child: "What are you hiding? We should be there by now." Adult: "No, dear; it always takes about this long, but things happen to slow us down a bit." [pause] Child: "Are we there yet?" Adult: "No. Why do you always kick up a fuss?" Child: "I'm hungry. I want something to eat." Adult: "You'll just have to wait; we're almost there." Child: "You always say that. Anyway, I think I need to pee." Adult: "Too bad, dear; you'll have to hold it. Not long now." Child: "Are we there yet?"

A nervous wreck for the final ten minutes, for two games in a row. Well done, Saints. Let's keep Hughes. He's done a good job.

This one was on TV here. Superb effort shown for the entire match. Our performance in the second half was excellent. We almost deserved a point, but defensive frailties did us in. I thought Cedric, Tadic and Long played better than usual. Lots of good passes from Tadic. The midfield played the whole game with purpose and forward momentum—lots of direct one-touch passing, rather than the usual aimless dithering sideways and backwards. Would have been wonderful to get a point, but at least the team finally showed a lot of guts and confidence. Where did that come from? It seemed clear that Hughes picked a team primarily with those players with the best attitude—those willing to make an effort. We just might survive, based on today's performance. COYS!

Yeah. My wife and I visited Mycenae and Epidavros in 1986. Memorable experiences. We also visited several impressive historical sites along the Aegean coast of Turkey: Troy, Pergamon, and Ephesus. -

I hiked the Coast-to-Coast Walk (west to east) in 2015 with two of my best friends from school. We took 14 days. Incredible experience. Highly recommended. -

My wife and I did a three-week holiday (in April, last year) touring around Provence, in the south of France. Fantastic place. Some other favourite destinations: Paris, Venice, Florence, Patmos, Mykonos and Crete. I suppose I take London for granted. I've been there many times. It's a wonderful city to explore. -

I've been to Annecy. Beautiful place. We were there for several days. A highlight of our stay was renting bicycles and riding a long way down the western side of Lac d'Annecy. -
Hard to argue with this. Too bad, however, that there's no room for Terry Paine.

Pellegrino: Under Pressure Footballers are taking Sleeping Pills
Hamilton Saint replied to yellow&blue's topic in The Saints
Psychological pressure, perhaps, because of the constant public scrutiny; but, come on! Try working 40+ hours a week on minimum wage to feed you and your kids and to keep a roof over your head. Then talk about pressure.
