Running a business that is purely based on one product, football, and you have no (or very little) knowledge of the product. Crazy. No business would succeed in such a set up. If they know nothing how do they hire people who do? On what basis do they select the appropriate candidate. Agreed not all of the Board need to have football expertise, but someone must have some knowledge. That's why Reed was on the Board. Markus and Cortese were knowledgable about football, though admittedly not deeply ingrained, Markus had been involved before buying Southampton, and Cortese was in sports management. Andy Oldknow recommended Read to Cortese. We sort of hope that Krueger has gained some knowledge in his time here, but whenever he utters his bull**** you seriously wonder.

Hunter has been a total disaster, have been saying it for years. Transformed our Academy from one of the best (some might say the best in the country), to one of the poorest on his watch. He should have gone years ago, but clearly was mates with Les, so was safe while he was still around. You have to question whether Matt Hale should have gone as well, but maybe without the shackles of Hunter he might prove to be the man to turn it around. It was a bad day for Saints when Matt Crocker left for England.

Also he isn't going until the end of the year, we wouldn't have sa ked Les knowing this fella would not be here until January.

Need some help from Andy Old know to find replacement for Les. Absolutely no idea who could replace him, unless we raid RB Leipzig.

This. Unless Hughes walks, which is possible, there is no way we will or should sack him while there is no one in charge of football. Krueger and the owners are clueless, what we don't need right now is for them to appoint someone. I just worry about how they are going to get a new DOF, with their collective lack of knowledge.

Excellent, has played a major part in the downward spiral of the club, has managed to turn one of the best academies in the country into one of the poorest. There are a few more heads need to roll, but Hunter and Reed are at least a start. Wilson and Krueger next please, it would be nice to see the back of Liebherr and Gao but that's not so easy to achieve. I just worry about who is going to find a replacement for Les. Fair play to him he did some good stuff when he joined but ultimately he had no idea how to develop further.

Redknapp was 2nd favourite to replace Hodgson in Jun 2016, Southgate was favourite.
-
McCarthy was in the England squad before he even went to Palace. He was a good keeper when he was at Palace as well, he hasn't improved while at Saints to any degree just been around to replace the hopeless Forster. Watson is a liability, unable to improve keepers who don't have natural ability.

Because the alternative was Redkrapp.

Man City 6-1 defeat dissection post match thread.

What about Bertram Mills and Gerry Cottle? Mary Chipperfield could do a job for us. ? -
Do Gao or Liebherr even attend games these days? Would they notice? For that matter do Reed or Krueger or Hunter attend either?

It's no good getting rid of Hughes until we get rid of the tests that choose a replacement

Nigel Pearson did as well. I suspect Sven has too, but not pictured. Much as I respect Claudio, I think this says more about Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha than about Ranieri

Sounds more like anterior cruciate from that report.

If he wants a career then he should consider a move to La Liga or the Bundeslige. He will never be suited to the PL.

See that a few of the u23s are taking part in first team training, shame if Sam has done his hammy. -
Sam Gallagher - Joins Blackburn: Official

Exactly this, not just duds but experienced duds. Hughes is not prepared to take a chance, he just wants to persist with Austin, Gabbi and Long in the foolish misbelief that they will eventually come good. No one thinks Gallagher is the answer to whatever the question is, but at least give him a proper go in a proper match (maybe Man City is not the time or the place), he may not do any better than the current crew, but then neither could he do any worse. At least given the opportunity we will know, otherwise what was the point in keeping him at St Mary's when we could have eiither loaned him out again or sold him. -

Played for the U23s last week, so not injured. Didn't have a good game though, subbed off early. -
Of course it could, Big Sam, Tony Pulis for example. Let's rely on the new manager kick, worked well with Puel, Pellegrino, even Hughes didn't. You highlight the problem, people who believe in these myths and think people who have appointed 3 duffs on the trot are now suddenly going to get it right. Unbelievable how gullible some people continue to be.

What we need to do in the short term, to fix the first team
VectisSaint replied to benjii's topic in The Saints
But if he isn't going to be any worse why not give him a go, an opportunity to prove the coaches wrong. What is there to lose? We don't have any other options, so we just continue playing Long, Austin and Gabbi who have forgotten how to score. What is the point in continuing to flog a dead horse, try something/someone different. It won't be any worse and has the bonus of indicating to these so called strikers that they are not irreplaceable and perhaps make them buck their ideas up. I'd give Gallagher a go with Ings, it may not work but at least we.oukd then say we tried. -
It is no good getting rid of Hughes while those who will select his successor remain in their current positions. They have proved 3 times now that they don't know how to choose a new manager, but you suggest giving them another chance to demonstrate their incompetence.
-
Its time to give Gallagher a go. Our experienced strikers can't do it, if Gallagher fails it won't be any worse than Austin, Long and Gabbi. Put Gallagher out there with Ings and see what happens. Unfortunately the real problem again is our creatiive midfields, Redmond and Moi realy are creating very little quality ball, but our strikers are clearly not up for it when they do deliver. The annoying thing is that we don't have any options for Redmond/Moi, though I would be tempted to try Targett out there ahead of Bertrand.

Don't think you are being over dramatic at all. Of course the game shouldn't be played. There is no doubt people have died, it was very fortunate that more were not involved, imagine if supporters had still been milling around. There is no sense playing a football match so soon after this tragic event, doubt they will play next weekend either.

One of the first to send him good wishes via Twitter.

Why would we not stick with Stephens and Hoedt because Rondon plays? I hope we don't stick with Hoedt, but because with the exception of the last game he has been crap but he hardly needs to be dropped because Rondon is playing, there are many other reasons. Would be good to see Hughes stick with Stephens and play Yoshida alongside, but it ain't gonna happen.
