  1. Agree about Tommy Jenkins, one of the most frustrating players ever, couldn't believe he was the first name I read. I thought then I would not like the list but actually cannot fault it much, and deffo agree with the top 5. As always with these things the list is biased to the modern era, I think CB Fry is a major omission although I did not see him play I would also agree about George O'Brien. Personally despite his Pompey and Spuds connections I would have to include Joe Jordan as well. I would also have thought Theo would have got an honorary mention, but I guess he left too soon.
  2. Will we sympathise with Orient when they get 10 point deduction after the comments made by their chairman (Barry Hearn?) when we went into Admin? Southend is a different matter.
  3. It was probably raining at Elm Park though 2 words you never thought you would hear in the same sentence: "Rasiak" and "pounce". Well I heard it tonight on Sky.
  4. Was that the season we were pelted with stones, bottles and what have you that the nice friendly folks of Luton lobbed over the metal cage at us? Nice place, Luton, not.
  5. Except it was actually 2006 when Snodin was in charge (sorry, I mean when Burley was manager).
  6. Would love to have seen Alf Ramsey play, but a bit before my time (but not much) Glad I did see Paine, Sydenham and Davies though and frquently, to boot.
  7. You're asking for trouble, suggesting that the Chapel end ever made any noise. The uber fans believe that no-one other than the Northam ever made any noise of any sort ever Unfortunately the acoustics in the stadium (and many others) just give the impression that all of the noise comes from the bit you are standing in.
  8. Great, so the following game we will be bottom of the CCC and we could almost push for a play-off place in the CCC after 46 games
  9. Racing driver actually, a couple of Grands Prix to his name (Ensign 1980), became a tv presenter when he gave up his preferred career. Usually referred to as "Stiff Needle"
  10. Can't believe Paulton stuffed Chippenham 3-0, maybe we can get Bath instead.
  11. Now we have AP, Downs and Wilkins things have really come together.
  12. MotM, lose next game. FACT
  13. NOoooooooooo, not the kiss of death
  14. I know worrying that she thought MK Dons were 2nd.
  15. Blimey its not even christmas yet
  16. In that case probably not a good idea Doddsy getting Lancashire in
  17. You might be better thinking of an open question. If he replied NO to your one and only question, you wouldn't have discovered much.
  18. He went to Sheff Utd
  19. I really think we must avoid using initials for Ricky, I nearly crapped myself when I read that
  20. Quite pathetic that we still have neanderthals on this thread arguing that such behaviour is acceptable. Try reading the update about Big Ron, puts this pathetic stuff into some perspective.
  21. Tim, my condolences to Ron, a true Saints legend and an inspiration for me when I was a nipper at The Dell. Would love to see Big Ron at SMS one day.
  22. Disagree about Poke. Much more likely to be a long term replacement for Davis than Bart, and now has considerably more 1st team experience than Bart as well, albeit at a lower level. Poke is actually a very good keeper, and some more experience playing in L2 will be very useful.
  23. Just wondering if it is some kind of record for a club to have 3 ex-Saints managers on their list of 3 managers favourite to take the job (and none of them the current manager) - WGS, NP and Souness. No mention in the BBC article that any of the 3 are ex-Saints. God, we're good at supplying the League with experienced managers http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/middlesbrough/8318553.stm
  24. Fabrice Fernandes now has a new career generating electricty in a wind farm in France Actually he is surprisingly listed as a former professional footballer, having been released by Dinamo Bucharest, currently on the books of Le Havre but has not yet made an appearance. For a player who has not even reached his 30th birthday yet his descent down the slippery slope since his days under WGS are quite spectacular.
  25. Not at all. I think in the past when we were strapped for cash it was important, but its just a number. When we get just over 20000, someone will say, Wanted 1000 fans so we can get over 21000. Don't get me wrong I prefer it when the ground is full or nearly so, but wanting an extra 1000 fans seems a bit odd to me. What we actually need is about another 13000 so the ground is really rocking. Anyway we could easily get another 1000 by giving tickets to kids, or kids for a quid promotions, but quite honestly while I want more kids to come to games, it does bugger all to make the atmosphere better having a load of little nippers running round knowing next to nothing about what is going on with their Manure, Arse, Chelski or Scouse shirts on under their coats If we continue to be successful the crowds will return, I would think 24/25k would be achievable in this division if we are winning regularly or at least playing good exciting football.
