They/ve not really been given too much opportunity. What was it 10 minutes for Ras and 5 for Saga against Swindon. I don't believe Saga actually touched the ball. OK Saga got more time against Brentford but its difficult to score goals from the bench

Not missing anything. There is a lot of bull being talked, and for every instance to back an argument there is an equally compelling example against. Norwich have almost as much turmoil as us (not quite I agree) but seem to have turned the corner again with new man in charge for first game. It is also difficult to say that the current team is used to losing. 5 new players were in yesterday, only James, Perry, Spiderman, Lallana and of course Davis were regulars last term, so are you saying that the lack of confidence is down to the 5 players? Spiderman is used to winning with France u21 as well. The only players I think lack confidence is James (on Swindon showing). Lallana is over confident. I know things will take a while to click but even with all of our problems 2 points from 12 is pathetic for a club of our standing and with the players that we have. You can blame it on pshychology and bury your head in the sand or you can be realistic and say its not good enough yet. -

Charlton Athletic's lack of confidence is plain for all to see. -
Not so, SCW had no credibility with HR, who undermined everything that SCW wanted to do. As a decent young footballer himself (though not as good as HR of course) he did have some credibility with players, but dinosaurs tend not to like change and of course like many people resist if they perceive that their job is under threat. SCW could have been good for us, but the timing of his appointment was a joke. Of course the biggest mistake SCW did make was introducing the Brazilian Soccer school **** who has no credibility with anyone other than his own ego (I can't even be bothered to remember his name) Referring the OP's reference to sideways passing, I don't recall SCW ever having been credited with affecting our style of play. I guess therefore that it was simply a hunourous reference to the requirment to pass backwards in rugby and not his influence on our tactics.

So would you have got rid of Davis? As I wasn't at the game today I can't comment, but on the evidence of what I saw last Tuesday, he is part of the problem. Great shot stopper and clearly has kept us in games so far, but still maintain his nervousness/positioning at corners, and his shocking kicking and distribution mean he contributes to the problems. Not a popular view I know, but I can only comment on what I see.

20 points behind Charlton now, and we finished above them last season. I really don't buy this **** that it takes time to gel and so on. We played our best game this season against Millwall, when we looked good at least at times, we seem to have gone backwards since then. I don't know the answer, but there is something still very wrong, the only thing I can put my finger on is the lack of width/pace and therefore the service to the former goal machine Lambert. Also still can't understand why AP refuses to play Gillett in the middle, not even on the bench today.

Saints 1-1 Brentford - 2nd half chat (Harding '73)

Who decided to make the subs, AP or the crowd? -
Contrary to what I've always thought in the past, Rasiak looks much more interested in playing than Saga, and genuinely seems to be part of the team. Saga just looks disinterested, overweight and lazy. As neither of them are playing regularly it may be that one will still be here come 1st September, and on present form I would rather it was Rasiak. Swap Saga for Dickov and that might be a good move. NP will get more out of Saga at the top of CCC than AP will in L1.

Natural goal scorer when there is no offside rule maybe.

Suggested it a few days ago, hijack the Notts County deal which seems to hinge on Sol being offered a coching role by Sven.

Did read your post sunshine, and I will confirm that your assessment of the weaknesses of Harding and Murty are wrong. Harding has reasonable pace, i saw on Tuesday him dealing with a very pacy winger, and he did a very good job. You said another of his weaknesses is he doesn;t get forward. Well that is incorrect as well, sunshine. That is not his weakness but a weakness of the headless chicken ahead of him. Harding would have been ignoring his primary role if he had got forward much on Tuesday. His first priority is defence, if he has cover from MF then get forward, but he cannot rely on Lallana to cover therefore he has to do his duty. You said Murty's weaknesses were that he was small, slow and doesn't get forward much. Well 2 out of 3 is bad in this case. He is not small, and he does get forward, at least on the evidence I saw against Millwall. 5'10 is above average height for a British man, may not be tall but to say he is small is ridiculous. If you had said one of his weaknesses was that he was fat then that would have made more sense, because he is!! I never said that you had said any of the players were crap, you have made that up. So, in future when you write something try reading what you write before posting, and try to see if the words you have written (a) make sense and (b) bear any resemblance to real facts. Then try reading what intelligent people write in reply and you may realise that you are not the great intellect that you think you are sunshine.

Radley College (Minor Public School) and Reading Uni actually. Still, agree with the sentiment, minor toff with sawdust for brains...

To be honest I think the answer to that one is pretty obvious. Only Surman and JPS will be missed, and I think Surman was overrated (lack of pace was his biggest problem). JPS was also a bit of a liability at times. Harding makes Rudi look very ordinary as a LB. BWP, at lease we won't be offside so often.
-
Completely and utterly wrong about Harding, cannot get forward when there is no support from his MF partner (Adam headless chicken Lallana). Best player on the pitch for uson Tuesday. Largely incorrect about Murty (though will agree he is not quick). Probably agree about Mellis, but he should be played wider and not in CM, I suspect with Hammond that he will not be played there again. Lambert, well he may not be the most mobile, but you don't score 29 in a season if you are not very good, just needs the right service.
-
Read the article again and you'll see that he hasn't even got that, he actually lost money. As I always referred to him, Nice but Dim, and now I'm not even sure about Nice.

A team that is not tinged with the losing mentality: Poke, Murty, Trotman, Thomas, Harding, Mellis, Hammond, Gillett, Schneiderlin, Rasiak, Lambert Only pre-Pardew Saints I would use at the moment would be: Rasiak (not here last year) Schneiderlin (used to success with France u21) Gillett (mostly because there is not much option, but I think he is what we need in MF) Thomas (didn't play under Agents Orange) Poke (success with Torquay, used to winning) I know the last one is controversial, but I don't agree that Davis should be automatic choice. He is part of the problem, not the solution. Great shot stopper, crap at corners, poor at kicks and distribution. Once we get back to a winning/not losing mentality then bring some of the other players who are clearly talented back in. I cannot put up with any more of the negative football I saw on Tuesday night, back passes to the GK who then gives it to an opponent either directly or via a throwin.

Wouldn't you refuse to go to Millwall?
-
If so then its bad editing, Harding was far and away our best player, in fact he was probably our only player that looked like he knew what he was doing and gave a ****.
-
he should move his Mali HQ to Southampton then...
-
No, no, no. We don't need any Slade favs. I really dislike Noddy Holder and I'm not sure about his scouting credentials.
-
Thought I read on here that JPS is ****ed off with how Wotte was treated and so does not want to be here
-
Can't we hijack Sol Campbell's move to Notts County?
-
They may have raised their game, can't comment as I did not see them play MK Dons, but they were still very poor, just made to look competent by our absolute crapness. If you give a team of schoolboys the complete run of the MF they would probably create some chances, thats what we did.

Agreed, Leicester did quite well last season as well. I've read nothing official, but I would suspect it is a loan with a view to a permanent deal. If the guy has been injured, then this is a low risk option, if his injury problems return then he will be let go, between now and January we will have a scouting network put in place again (we don't have one at present according to AP) and we can look out for another CB which we might or might not bring in based on the success of the loan. People knocking the loan system are just blinkered and don't really understand how modern football in the lower divisions work. Welcome Mr Trotman, looking forward to seeing an improvement in the back line.
