Jhon Viafara was always good entertainment value - I remember him doing a simple 10 yard passing drill with George Burley before an away game and really struggling. But I loved how he drove us on in matches and his goals against Derby were certainly unexpectedly well executed. in hindsight probably should have cashed in on him after the play off semi - Derby were linked with a £5 or £6m move for him IIRC, must not have come forward with a proper bid as surely we would have taken that if offered.

Yeah we were linked with him 2 years ago, so I make a point of watching him now and then if Torino are on TV. He helped contribute to the goal Italy scored tonight by challenging for header at the back post, we are missing that so much since selling Pelle, Wanyama etc. Would be a definite upgrade on Clasie IMO.

I feel as though Puel has been stitched up a bit to be honest. # we all knew we needed a striker in the summer. # we all knew we needed a Fonte replacement. # poor recruitment leaving us with a physically small and weak squad and no real aerial threats in our side. # injuries to Van Dijk and Austin. # fans moaning about rotation of the squad, when it could be argued that rotation was a key factor in progressing to a Wembley final and dealing with an unprecedented number of games. # one of the worst shot conversion rates in the league. Ultimately the style of play, particularly at home, will be his un-doing, but we were shipping goals (11 in 4 games vs Swansea, West Ham, Man Utd and Watford) so I'm not really surprised by the way we have set up more negatively recently in order to protect Stephens and Yoshida. I don't actively want Puel out, but probably wouldn't bat an eye-lid too much if he did go.

No not really, nearly half of those were penalties so can't be attributed to scoring because he fits the style of play. Admittedly we have changed formations since Austin has been injured so who knows, but I haven't seen much in his overall link-up play that what suggest he is the type of player that thrives in a Puel setup. Besides, I only said 'wouldn't be opposed', i'm hardly offering to drive him to another club.

I think it's pretty obvious J-rod is off. I wouldn't be opposed to selling both Austin and Long if we are keeping Puel as neither really seem to fit his style of play. If Puel is going i'd be open to them staying if they could fit in with the new manager's tactics.

I think any attacking decent signing in the final third is welcome - not convinced we need an out and out centre forward. Long, for example, looked a better striker last season when playing with better quality of teammate.

Why not? Sule is staying at Hoffenheim until the summer. I'd say there is a high chance we will lose Fonte in Jan and then Van Dijk in the summer.

Ruben Semedo is an obvious centre back target, but his playing style means he more likely to be a Van Dijk replacement, than Fonte.

Not seen many striker options touted on here, but i'd be amazed if we didn't ship out Rodriguez and sign a replacement. Sebastien Halller is the only main striker we have been linked with - has got 9 goals and 4 assists in 15 league games so far this season. Saido Berahino could be used in a swap deal with Rodriguez - but would probably fail our character assesment and hasn't played much recently. Aleksandar Mitrovic has been today linked with West Ham and Crystal Palace - not the best record but would surely do better than our other current back-up options, would probably fail character assesment too. In a perfect world we would sign Moussa Dembele, Callum Wilson or Andrea Belotti, but their value has soared in recent times, so neither would happen. Anyone worth signing in the french league? I think one striker would probably be our only business - unless anyone leaves e.g Fonte. In the summer I would try signing Marco Benassi and Quincy Promes.

I agree with the bottom part of what you are saying - I just don't think he warranted a thread of his own moaning about him. He's a decent squad player that is getting overused currently, because Long and Rodriguez are in equally poor form and Tadic has been unavailable, so I expect he would have been dropped if that wasn't the case.

Did you even watch Norwich last season? Alex Neil set his teams up very defensively in most games and often used him as an impact sub - its not as simple as saying he was out the team cos he's crap. Same as if someone said Cedric must be crap cos Martina played some games last season, that would be incorrect.
