He got on well with Hughton at Newcastle, probably end up wherever Chris stays/goes. The incident was probably the result of his personality, City winding him up and the importance of the game. He seems like quite an intelligent bloke (watch the Newsnight interview above for proof of that), but he's got that side to him which is completely unpredictable. He can lash out, and he's pretty handy so can do some damage! Wouldn't want him here though.

Kevin Foley from Wolves would be a good signing. Versatile, young and probably quite cheap. RB/CM. -

Saw somewhere that Reading are bidding for Hoilett...fat chance of them getting anywhere near him. -

Read it earlier, disagreed on a few points (Chaplow especially) but overall not a bad summary. -
Agree with this. Would be a solid signing and knows how to do it at this level. Need that kind of experience in our squad.

Unfair perhaps that our 3 'worst' managers were only in charge for a combined total of 38 games. Personally I think that Strachan is the best manager we've had in the last 20 years, but if Nigel can reach the heights that Gordon achieved with us (top 8 finish, cup final) then Nigel will easily surpass him in my estimations. Gordon took a really average, struggling side and turned them into cup finalists and a top half team.

I don't think we'd be in the position we're in now if we still had Pardew in charge. Never found that level of consistency and fighting spirit that we have now. Plus the football we play now is much better. Too much hoofball when Pards was here.

Would you take 4th from bottom next season now?
SuperMikey replied to doggface's topic in The Saints
Depends on what we do in the summer and also how the season goes. It may be that we don't get in that calibre of player that is needed and end up lower-mid table for most of the season, in which case I would take 17th. However, I think it's pretty clear that this is a club with ambition, and i'm sure it won't be anyone's ambition to finish 17th next year. I can see us finishing 10th-15th. -
Oh my gosh.

I like Russell Brand, but that film looks f*cking awful. I shall wait to see reviews before I commit... -
Spent most of my summers in Perthshire as a kid, venturing further up for day trips to go walking and visit places. It's a really special part of the world, the Highlands. I remember driving from Abernethy to Elgin when I was about 12, setting off when it was still dark (it was in the winter), and as we got past Pitlochry the sun was coming up. I tell you what, driving up through the Cairngorms in the morning light was incredible. Absolutely stunning. Stopped off and visited a distillery in Speyside and surveyed the views... Not my photo but similar views to what we had across the valley below us. Scotland will always be special to me, especially the Highlands.

I thought we missed a trick when Burnley signed Trippier, quality player imo. Quick, good delivery and a good engine. Coupled with Jay Rod that would be a fantastic deal. -
Read this at work earlier and made me grin. Great story and nice to hear that we have a good bunch of lads at this club and not a load of c*cky ***ts like others do.

Agreed. People talk about Schmeichel a lot but Bogdan has been an excellent stand-in for Bolton this year and is still pretty young. Would be a good understudy for Kelvin for 1/2 years then a starter imo. £2.5m-£3m should be enough if they go down I think. -

Get that Japanese bloke from the T-Mobile adverts back to do about 4 keepy-uppies in a row again.

Who knows? It all depends on what happens next year tbh. We could find ourselves 19th after 30 games and pull off another great escape like the old days, or we could be in 8th and on course to qualify for Europe! I think realistically our aim for the next 5 years is to establish ourselves as a Premier League side, have a few decent cup runs (a Semi Final in the next 2/3 years would be great!) and look at competing for a European slot by our 5th season (Europa, not CL). If we can keep hold of our key players (Lambert, Lallana, Schneiderlin etc) and add a few more established, experienced Prem players then there's no reason why that isn't achievable.

Looking forward to this actually, ought to be cheap as anything and cracking nightlife too. Any recommendations for clubs and bars to go to? Oh and believe me when I say i'll be well behaved, i've heard a fair few stories about eastern european gangsters...

Would sort out our RM in a flash. Quality, quality player. -
It would be good if points could apply to the pricing of STs, i've missed about 10-15 home games in the last 3 years and never had a ST (could never afford one). £1 off for each home game attended would be nice Nicola Still, I shall be getting one near the back of Block 38 for next season.

Absolutely crushed by this news. Felt like crying when I found out tbh. Growing up in the 90s when they were huge they were a band that I got into big time when I hit 11 or 12. Still one of my favourites. Not only was MCA a brilliant MC, he was part of a whole movement of popular music. Any hip hop record by a white guy today, they've got the Beasties to thank. They got laughed at, but their music did all the talking for them. So gutted I didn't get to see them live, but Adam's music lives on. RIP

Liam Trotter would be a quality signing imo, bang Millwall £2m for him and we've got a big lad in midfield who's good on the ball, a good passer, an aerial threat and can put in a good tackle. Can play CB if need be as well. Would be a very useful player to have in the squad should we need to play with a more defensive strategy - sitting just in front of Morgan at CM to break up attacks and spark off a counter-attack.
