  1. Nicely put. Adkins got a sentence in that article, hasn't won manager of the month once since he's been at the club (despite putting together some great runs and gaining successive promotions) and has also been overlooked for manager of the season as well. What the f*ck does the guy have to do to get a bit of credit from the media!? I'd have Nige over McDermott any day of the week, much more tactical knowledge and adventurous style of play. McDermott organises well though and seems like a decent bloke, will be interesting to see how both get on next year!
  2. Bearsy Not quite as good as Deppo
  3. Best of luck to him, always rated him as a player here despite his injury problems. Even though he was ruled out with injury quite often, he did a hell of a lot of charity and community work in the area for which he won a few awards. Good luck, Lee!
  4. Everything really, he opened up with 3 songs in a row then threw it open to people to spin the wheel and select songs randomly. Wheel choices intespersed with 2/3 songs back-to-baxk. He came out for his first encore and played a few songs solo, including 'I Want You', which was f*cking electrifying. Just him, a guitar and a red spotlight. Second encore he was joined onstage by a few special guests, including someone from Squeeze (Mick someone, his name escapes me) and Russell Crowe (?!) who came out and sang Mystery Train and Folsom Prison Blues. Great night though and Elvis is at the top of his game right now. Catch him at an upcoming gig if you can!
  5. Only one I know of is that turd Danny Alexander.
  6. Unlike P*mpey, we probably could afford to shell out £60k on wages. Obviously Cortese doesn't want to do that at the moment, but our finances would probably allow for it. I agree though, we don't want to go offering stupid money to people, but if the player is good enough then I think the price is fair enough.
  7. We would be f*cking stupid not to try and get Kalou or Bosingwa. I sincerely doubt either of them would come here, but they are players worth breaking the wage structure for. Top quality international players. Kalou seems like a pretty balanced individual and Bosingwa was very patient when he wasn't being played and worked hard to earn his first team place. Can't see them being disruptive influences tbh.
  8. Well at least England actually played it on the ground for once. Nice triangles too. The team is pretty much there I think to be decent contenders in the Euros, just need that spark of ingenuity that players like Young and Oxo have to set it off. If it was me I would play something like (assuming a fully fit squad): --------------------HART----------------- MICAH-----JAGIELKA-----CAHILL-----COLE ------------GERRARD-----PARKER--------- CHAMBO-----------ROONEY--------YOUNG -------------------CARROLL--------------
  9. Hope somebody took these tickets from you, I saw him on Wednesday and he was f*cking sublime.
  10. AFC SuperMikey is go.
  11. 1. Man City 2. Man Utd 3. Chelsea 4. Arsenal ------------------- (CL Qualification) 5. Liverpool 6. Spurs 7. Newcastle ------------------- (Europa Lg Qual.) 8. Sunderland 9. Everton 10. Fulham 11. Villa 12. Swansea 13. Stoke 14. SAINTS 15. West Ham 16. QPR 17. West Brom ------------------ (Relegation) 18. Norwich 19. Reading 20. Wigan Man City - Will spend big in the summer, strengthening their squad while getting rid of the dead wood. Will be big pressure on them to win the title again but unless Man Utd match City in spending it's only going one way. Man Utd - Need to strengthen their squad in a few positions, notably buying/blooding replacements for Ferdinand, Giggs and Scholes. Reckon they'll finish 2nd again. Chelsea - Abramovich will back whoever they bring in as manager heavily with cash, and now that they've won the CL they'll be able to attract some quality players. Need to replace older players though. Arsenal - The key thing for them is keeping hold of RVP. If they can manage to do that and bring in a few more quality players then they'll be serious contenders, esp. with young talent coming through (Oxo, Wilshere) Liverpool - They will also spend during the summer, but the squad is there to get a Europa place imo. If they can pull off a coup and bring in a real quality player then I can see them pushing for top 4. Spurs - 'Arry won't change too much over the summer, he might look to bring in 2 or 3 players but I think he'll be happy to keep his squad pretty much similar. Needs more strength in depth though. Newcastle - Can't see them repeating the feats of this season, but if they can keep hold of Ba and Cisse then they'll always score goals. They need to shore up their defence though, especially at full-back. Sunderland - I think it was a real masterstroke getting Martin O'Neill on board, he knows this league inside-out. If he can bring in a few good players they'll be a good bet for a top 8 finish. Everton - Need to improve their squad, although getting money out of Kenwright is obviously a problem. They need another striker, as I think Jelavic will be a flash-in-the-pan player. Expect them to go for Holt. Fulham - Solid team, if they can keep tie Pogbrenyak down to a decent contract and bring in a few players to replace their older pros and increase the size of their squad there's no reason they can't finish top half. Villa - Had a nightmare season but they'll look to appoint a good manager with attacking prowess who can get their strikers scoring - that's the key for a decent finish for them. Keeping Bent fit as well will be vital. Swansea - Think they might get 'found out' a bit this year and won't dominate against some teams like they did this season. Still, they quality is there to see in their squad, all they need is a striker who'll get them 15+. Stoke - Looking to overhaul their squad which means transfers for them, but there'll be lots of competition for signatures this year and I think they'll lose out. Still, Pulis is a good manager and they ought to be safe. SAINTS - I think our current squad might just avoid relegation, but with a few additions I think 14th is a realistic and healthy finish. This year is about establishing ourselves as a Prem team, and in NA we trust! West Ham - Will make lots of signings but I think that could backfire on them. Allardyce will come under pressure from the fans and will probably be sacked. He was closer than you might think to going this year. QPR - They've been a good team since January but there are lots of egos at that club which will certainly affect performances and harmony. Need some established Prem faces and cool heads, not more mercenaries. West Brom - Decent enough squad but I don't think they'll do anything special this year. In fact unless they appoint a very good manager I can see them struggling a bit. Norwich - I can see Lambert leaving, and I can't see them replacing him with anyone that great. They don't have a huge transfer budget and their squad is pretty average. Reading - Possibly a controversial choice for relegation, but I don't think they'll make it. Average squad at best, although spirited. Unless they make big moves they'll be struggling. Wigan - Can only see Martinez leaving which is a shame for them as that ultimately spells relegation for them. Not a great squad and unless somebody can work miracles on them it'll be a bad season.
  12. Agreed. Was explaining that to my mate in the pub while we were watching the game, but he said that Gilks had no chance and all he could do was try and stop the shot by maintaining his position. Gilks had plenty of time to watch Cole take that touch which took it slightly wider than he would have liked, imo that was the perfect opportunity to take 2 or 3 steps off his line to close down the player thus making the target much, much smaller as the shot was taken from an angle anyway.
  13. He's definitely not useless. Wigan's best player over the last few years. Give him the right kind of service and he'll score. Whether his wages would be a problem or not, i'm not sure, but he'd be a good acquisition for us imo.
  14. Aren't you forgetting about Eddie Odihambo? Seriously though, there are some decent players of Kenyan descent playing in the Scandinavian leagues - Inter have a Kenyan midfielder called McDonald Mariga who is a great player (in fact, HCDAJFU). Football is a growing sport in Africa and if we can set up an academy over there then there's no reason as to why we can't really reap the benefits over the coming years.
  15. So annoyed that Chelsea won, especially by playing such sh!t negative cheating diving football yet dispatching 2 of the best footballing teams in the world (Bayern + Barca). All the f*cking gloryhunters came out of the woodwork for this one, Varsity was full of those c*nts. Oh and Chelsea do not represent England. When they play against a foreign team, they are not England. They are a club. This game had nothing to do with England vs Germany ffs...
  16. I don't think that's how the Homegrown rule works, I think you have to be registered with a club in England for at least 3 years before you turn 21. So that means if we signed a 17 year old from, say, Kazakhstan, 3 years from the date we signed him he would count as a homegrown player. I think that's how it works anyway, MLG will need to clarify that
  17. Wigan if they lose Martinez and don't replace him properly (like Wolves didn't).Reading if they don't strengthen properly/lose McDermott.Blackpool/West Ham if they go up and don't strengthen properly. Can see those 3 being involved in a relegation scrap for most of the season, then chucking teams like Norwich, QPR, Villa, Saints, Stoke, Swansea, West Brom etc into the mix as well. It's going to be a struggle.
  18. Oh, and I keep hearing rumours about us signing Jordan Willis from Coventry. Is he the debutant who was marking SRL on the last day of the season? Thought he was alright, room to improve though.
  19. Holt situation has shocked me a bit, seems quite disloyal of him tbh considering they took him from Shrewsbury to the Premier League in a few seasons... He's probably been tapped up by the same team that Lambert's going to. Adam Johnson would be an absolutely incredible signing, but I doubt he'd want to come to us. Maybe on loan for a few months to try and force his way back into the Citeh squad but probably not on a permanent. Still, if we do end up signing him it would be a massive, massive coup. This rumour seems like a load of sh!te though. David Bentley had a distinctly average season at West Ham, struggled with injuries and was inconsistent. Doesn't seem like the kind of player we'd sign tbh. Pienaar, like Johnson, would be a fantastic signing. Still, he's hero-worshipped at Goodison and if they want him then he'll want to go back there. Would be ecstatic if we got him though.
  20. Interesting to see that Wigan's change in formation worked really well, but they had very lively wing-backs/wingers with bags of pace (Beausejour in particular) whereas that's not particularly something we have. Why change a winning formula though?
  21. On the pitch King Alfred Yates (holding aloft my change from the bar and starting a rousing rendition of "Richer than P*mpey") Giddy Bridge Varsity Bedford Alexandra Varsity Portswood) Co-Op (to get some more booze) My mates house (to drink lots more and keep the neighbours awake with our chanting in the back garden) Sunday: Work (incredibly hungover and still partially drunk).
  22. Excellent, I posted a few pages back about what a good signing he would be for us. Good on the ball, good passing ability and he's built like a brick sh!thouse. Can play at CB if needed as well. For £1.5m he'd be a snip.
  23. That's the case with me, definitely. Want to do as many away games as possible next year.
