Monk - you speak too much sense for this forum! The club will be here long after current players/managers have been and gone. Never less than interesting being a Saints fan!
-
saint charlie......why, oh why are you such a drama queen? What the hell is the club meant to have done? Pochettino has behaved very poorly and I no longer want him at the club even if THFC does not come off. He has clearly shown he cannot be trusted and good riddance: hopefully we can appoint a good manager to continue our progress. Remember how after Adkins was sacked this forum went into meltdown and we were doomed? That didn't happen and I don't believe it will happen if/when Pochettino goes. Whatever happens we need to appoint a young, ambitious, hungry manager who can continue our progress.
-
who bloody cares....just go Pochettino. No loyalty and stringing Saints along to get the best deal for him....and making us a media circus. he could have just said "I'm staying" but has chosen not to. Saints will still be here long after he goes and I just hope we get a real quality replacement in (e.g. de Boer)
-
Ah, the Metro: the paper that cannot be trusted! I'll believe it when I see it on the OS and not before
-
My god - what a fuss over nothing (yet). To date, correct me if I am wrong: 1) Pochettino is still here (how can you blame the Board for him hedging his bets?) 2) No players have been sold - of course some will likely be sold, but likewise we will "steal" someone elses best players. That's the nature of football. 3) If players leave it will be to further their careers at top, top clubs not clubs a similar size to Saints. And we should get top dollar for them. 4) We are smoking crack if anyone thinks we can break top 4. how exactly when our average attendance is around 32K and we are not a global brand 5) NC has left....yes, he did a terrific job in rebuilding Saints. But this was bankrolled by the Liebherrs who appear to be getting some very unfair criticism. As others have said, what would NC do minus the Liebherrs funding 6) Why should the Liebherrs spunk their families inheritance to placate unrealistic expectations among some of the fan base. That worked well for PFC, Leeds and others didn't it? Why can't we just wait and see what happens over the summer. Posters stating "95% fact that Shaw and Lallana are gone" have not got a clue - you know what, the sun will come up tomorrow and set tomorrow evening. Does that make me as ITK as these posters that are claiming facts all over the place?
-
Why can';t you answer the question Saint Charlie? You seem quite vocal that he (and many players) have left....even though no-one has of yet. What is your reasoning behind being certain that MP is going/has gone? Lets face it you have no idea (same as the rest of us) and you need to chill out and not throw the toys out of the pram. Mass hysteria on here which is actually quite laughable.
-
wow.......these fox sports commentators are so biased to Arsenal it's untrue. Thank the lord NBC took the Prem rights from Fox. And Vinnie Jones in the studio in jeans....what the hell is that all about? C'mon Hull! You went too defensive when you went 2 up.

I was driving through downtown DC yesterday.........No brainer why he would go to Spurs

Can we put to bed the nonsense that we were doomed when NC left.....

errrrr......why do you think Cortese is no longer at the club? -

How many players have we sold so far? Answer is 0. The reason we have not been a selling Club is that no one wanted our players - with the exception of shaw who the new board did not sell in jan. Only other player in demand was the Ox and we did not keep him under the no watch. lots of hysteria on here at the moment with very little based on fact. -
I cannot believe the nonsense being spouted about NC on here. How if he had been at the helm we would never have had bids for our players, we would never have sold players, we now lack ambition, etc. Many posters on here are being VERY disrespectful to the Liebherrs by saying the new board has no clue, etc. Lest anyone forget here are some facts rather than conjecture: NC was paid 2 million per year, with very few other Prem CEOs being anywhere close to that The training ground costs doubled to 30 million It was not NC's money that he was spending....and in many instances wasting. It was the Liebherrs NC not wanting any interference - including the owners that were bankrolling "the project" - ran the real risk of no governance and potential financial catastrophe long term Commercial aspects were ignored - look how many corporate boxes were empty NC wanted to airbrush our history: and the club was around for 100+ years before he came in We would do well to remember that it is the Liebherrs that are bankrolling the club. I, personally, have no problem with the club having to live within its means as I don't want a repeat of the financial meltdown a few years back. Final note, all clubs are selling clubs. Nature of the business.
-
You know what.....I am so f**n bored of this whole speculation already. MP could kill it now by either saying he wants to stay or he wants to go.....simple. He appears to be stringing the club along so call his bluff: tell him to decide on the new contract by Monday or f**k off and have a replacement lined up. This is ridiculous and you can see NC's hand all over the press with some of the absolutely insane stories that are coming out.
-
FC - so how come Man U could not keep hold of Ronaldo? How come Spurs could not keep hold of Bale? How come Everton could not keep their star players? Surely it is as easy as you are describing to keep hold of players or perhaps those clubs lack ambition?
-
OldNick....................you can't have it both ways. In a previous post you said if he goes it will be because we lack ambition and players were sold he didn't want sold and now you talk about reinvestment of funds and that you'd be happy with 25m reinvested. How on earth do you and others on here have the slightest clue about what KL's plans are for the club (other being in it for the long haul and wanting to continue to progress)? And please don't say NC would have had a plan.....so did Peter Storrie, Peter Risdale et al. Very easy when its someone elses money/on the never never.
-
What a load of old cobblers. So should we pay MP 200K per week just to keep him? And anyone who believes the club can stop anyone leaving who really wants to leave is naive at best and stupid at worst. We are not a top, top side and if players want to leave they will: Ronaldo left Man U despite man U wanting to keep him, Everton have lost key players like Felliani, Rodwell, Rooney, etc. so to think we can simply say we should be in a position to keep all our players is ridiculous. It is a sign of how far we have come that so many top clubs want our players. And the same people who were complaining about how the Skates got away with it re. their overspend are now seriously suggesting we should break the bank or we "lack ambition". You couldn't make it up!
-
Hopefully he will stay and most of our players too. But, if MP does go who would you like to see in his place? For me Frank de Boer: the Ajax way appears close to the Southampton way and could be a fairly seamless transition If we went for some deadwood like Malky McKay then I would be seriously upset.
-
OMG....how much of a twit does this make Alpine look? His comments about Lallana and his position on lallana now are laughable. He must truly be on a wind up with his posts.
-
Hypo......if you reread my post it was not aimed at the OP, it was aimed at Saint Tony who came out with that ridiculous remark.
-
OMG.......we haven't sold anyone yet and some are saying this is the worst day in the history of the club. Have you forgotten when we went into administration. Personally don't think we have hit high water mark. We seem to have a good crop of youngsters coming through that will hopefully make their mark over the next couple of seasons and if we can make some good buys the n next season could be interesting. Lets face it Osvaldo was a big signing and is a disaster and Gaston has not proven his full worth yet (although encouraging signs this season)
-
Oh how ironic. Only last year so many on here were bemoaning that Lallana was not Prem quality and we should sell. Now they sky is about to fall in because he MAY (may not too) be off. We have a ready made replacement in Gaston......and please don't anyone say "well Gaston can't last 90 minutes" because neither can Adam. Shaw - we have no ready made replacement
-
Seems incredible that some folks on here believe we should be challenging top 4. Ambition is great but it has to be tempered with reality........I would love to be making a $1 million a year...but it ain't going to happen. My view on where we are at (FWIW) is: 1) With a capacity of some 32K (which we don't fill on a regular basis) we cannot compete with those clubs that get 40-50K+ 2) We are not a global brand (yet) and can't attract the revenue the global brands such as Spurs, Liverpool, Arsenal, Man U, Man City and Chelsea can...so breaking top 6 would truly be an incredible achievement 3) We will not keep all our youngsters and good players: we can't offer salaries that the top clubs can. However, Ajax had a production line of youngsters that allowed the club to sell a few to build the team over time 4) People holding up NC leaving as a sign of our lack of ambition: he ignored the commercial aspects and was spending a lot of the Liebherrs money (not his own) 5) People have very short memories: saying we should trow a ton of (more) money to compete otherwise we lack ambition ignores the mistakes made by the blue few 6) MP is not irreplaceable: really hoping he will stay but I was gutted when Adkins was sacked yet we did not fall apart 7) We have had an incredible season: enjoy it because life is way too short to worry about what may/may not happen some time in the future The future is bright: really looking forward to the likes of Reed, Sims, Stephens and co looking to make the breakthrough
-
Unreal.....Fc, that has to be the biggest load of tosh posted on here. While NC was frittering away money (that was not his, everything has been bankrolled by the Liebherrs and NC may have gotten things done but he killed the commercial side of the business) ho on earth would be in a better position with NC? Where was he going to magic money up from? View from the top, CB and Turkish actually, IMO, have this spot on. While it would be great to break into the top 4 how on earth can we do that with a 32K capacity, no global brand, etc. Best we can hope for, IMO, is breaking into top 6. And even that would be a monumental achievement. Not to mention, look what happend when "ambition" overtook common sense down the road
-
Disagree re Adam being harder to replace. We Have Garton And The Next Group Like Sims Coming through. We don't have the same luxury at lb and without wishing to be too controversial shaw is already world class and Adam is not......very good but not world class
-
If he carries on developing at the same rate, he will easily be worth 80-100 million in a 2-3 years (based on the crazy transfer market right now). he is light years ahead of Bale at the same age
-
incredible to think the lad is only 18. Best LB in the country and to sell him for 27million would be seriously underchanging us. Irreplaceable for us....more so than Adam
