Who are they? (Drinks milk)

Brilliant - this must be the winner

Someone posted it was 16 years since we beat spurs 4-0 in the 3rd round. Great game - but not even our best match against spurs for me, that was the 3 1 win at WHL 29 (gulp) years ago. Still remember the rain falling off the net as yet another great goal was smashed into the net. Any other favourite memories?

Where “good” is defined as the best so far this century, in terms of goals. End.

A thumping 6-0 win for Hull today. Hats off to Nige, who is doing an amazing job there. A Hull supporting friend told me in the summer they were nailed on for relegation, having sold all their players who were even half decent due to finances. That’s 5 wins on the bounce now. Who knows, maybe he will get a fair shot at the prem one day.

To be fair, although it seemed a lot at the time, I think he has been reasonable VFM. Certainly a lot lot better than many we’ve signed.

They could almost be the same person.... except... could the Saintsweb earlobe experts report to the main board please.

Has anyone else noticed that Bubbly Dave has started to refer to the ball (which already has a succinct and readily understood name) as “the guvnor” in recent weeks. This seems like a recent development. Have I just missed it previously? He seems to be banging on about it in all the recent highlights packages. I had to miss the match today but I’m guessing we didn’t get control of the guvnor enough.

They mentioned on radio 5 today that Billy Sharp is now the joint highest league goal scorer this century - joint with Rickie Lambert (Rooney is third). Not bad having two Saints in the top two. Still think Billy was a little hard done by not having a chance in the prem, having got us there.

Is it time to give Angus Gunn a run in the PL

That’s not what Ralf said in the pre-City press conference. He was surprisingly open about the keeper standing in the wrong position, causing to the goal. -
I had a look at this a couple of weeks back, before we started winning. I was thinking that this year is awful and would end up with much lower points than previous years at the bottom, at the end of the season. I was quite surprised that the current points total is similar to the past few years. So there does generally seem to be a pick up in the second half of the season for those st the bottom.

I vaguely remember a really drab 0-0 with West Ham, probably around the branfoot era. Very wet. On Sky I think. Evening game - when down with my group of friends as the worst saints game ever.
-
We would need a fantastic second half to the season to finish 10th. We’d need to match mid table points (another 28 points?) plus 10 on top, to catch up - 38 points over half a season is nudging champions league qualification form. Possible - but unsurprisingly the bookmakers are not being all that generous.
-
Also - what do you get? Not clear from their website.

Ralph is amazing. I think we should get carried away - I understand the train is leaving the station. I’m particularly amazed as I thought Hughes was doing as well as possible with this squad and much better than Pellegrino. I must admit I was going off football and seriously considering not renewing after 30 years as a season ticket holder. Let’s enjoy it while it lasts.

Same here - just adults I assume.

Great academy players who never made it in the first team

Reminded me of the Reading away game that season. Reading top of the league and unbeaten at home. The youngsters had a great day. One of the best performances I’d seen for years. Won, 2-1 if I recall. -
Wikipedia suggests he played 26 games - over half of our best ever season. Didn’t Agboola play sweeper behind the two carter halves - firstly Wright and Armstrong and later on Wright and Holmes (I think). Not suggesting Armstrong was in the same class as some of those (I can’t really remember him - if only I could say the same of the current bunch!) but bit harsh that a member of arguably our best ever team got a mention on this thread!
-
Also - didn’t Ken Armstrong play the season we finished 2nd?

Ok, to the tune on the Boney M classic Ra Ra Rasputin.... Ralph Ralph Hassinhuttl Austria’s high press machine A bit like Klopp But less of a knob.

Paul Mitchell set for Saints return...
Stud mark of doom replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
I’m more at the “I’ll believe it when I don’t see it” stage. Reminds me of Betteridges (?) Law. If a headline has a question mark at the end of it, the answer to the question is always no. -
A friend of mine bought a half season ticket the last time we got relegated from the prem. He wasn’t really a football fan at all but thought it looked good value mainly because we still had all the top teams to play (we had already failed to beat all the rubbish sides at home, if you remember). He’s had a season ticket ever since!

Give me Nichol’s young side, brimming with potential, if still a bit brittle, any day. Le Tiss, shearer, the Wallaces etc. Think they’d made the best ever start to a top flight season that year and they were great to watch.
