Also - who remembers “the bruise brothers” Shearer and Ruddock coming in against Swindon in the league cup - 0-2 to 4-2
-
Well, sticking Gabi on for a centre back has to be right up there in my opinion. What are the others that spring to mind? Super Ken for Dia? Against us, the one I remember is Kevin Philips on his return for Brum. Dogs abuse for what seemed like 15 mins while he warms up. Jogs on. Scores.

Give it a few months and we’ll haves Moyes and Sam being called in to save the day at Everton and West Ham respectively.
-
You forgot ‘during the game’.

One thought - sign Hughes up quick. He’s great.

When have we ever done one before? The only one I’m aware of was for Terry Paine’s return to The Dell with Hereford in the 70s. (I remember there was a big picture of Terry running out smiling at waving, while Channing etc stood and clapped, at the start of the “Guinness book of soccer facts and feats” - my most read book as a kid)

We should give Hughesie a guard of honour.

What if Swansea make up 9-point goal difference?

If we lose 1 0 and Swansea win 10 2, do we stay up in alphabetical order? -
Great Escapes - past and present ... is this the best ?

I think the Swansea match was as tense as I remember. Here are my few memories - The Wimbledon one where we finished and Man City were still playing - I was listening to my tranny in the east stand. I’m not sure they even had commentary of City? Losing 1 0 at Villa (Dryden own goal). In the home end but keeping a low profile ( or so we thought - radios pressed to ears) very loud brummies behind is congratulated us on staying up. The dellhurst Park year. Lost my fez with first goal. Thought we were then safe but amazingly everyone else won - did Charlton win 5-4? We knew we’d win the remaining home game tho - we never went down. -
I am amazed at some of the tepid reactions of a few on here. Hughes has done a phenomenal job. I was seriously thinking of not renewing my season ticket of 30 odd years but recent games have changed my mind. The change from what went before is immense. If we don’t give him the job amd appoint yet another hopeless unknown who can’t communicate I think I might have to find another sport.

****ing brilliant. Sign him up.

It’s presumably a high quality hotel. 2 and even 3 star reviews over a period of months or years wouldn’t look too good.
-
Eh? If the game is relatively meaningless it’ll be coz we’ve beaten Swansea. I’m hoping that’s the case.

Is it just me who is amazed how football used to work in the old days. Basically, the clubs held all the cards and could effectively decide what the players did. The balance of power was more “you owe it to the club and you have no choice in the matter”. And the wages were not always great. How did the PFA put up with that? I don’t really want to defend our pampered underperforming millionaires but the ones that go would be accepting offers from clubs who think they are good enough for the premiership, based on their past performances, not “suddenly thinking they are way too good for the championship”. The sad fact is we will be left with the seriously overpaid dross. The ones for clearly aren’t good enough for the prem, may well not be good enough from the championship and/or are being paid far too much for their talents. God, I hope we win tomorrow.

I’d like to put myself forward for Les Reed’s job. My CV is above. I was a bit surprised everyone didn’t think the same thing In January..

Hoddle said pretty much this on BT sport after the Everton match. He said we should have a “word in the ear” of the city players hoping to play at the World Cup (and not get injured). Cue bemused looks from BT anchorman.

We have some idiots on here tonight. We played really well. Very very unlucky. The ref was awful (can’t ever remember Poll on the TV being so critical of the Redmond “foul” and where he let the kick be taken from). We are out of the relegation zone. We have a very good manager (at last). Play like that for the next two games and we’ll be safe. COYR

Could try calling Goodson - I did the same at Leicester and they were happy to sell me away end tickets on the day
-
Not to mention getting us out of the third division.

Very lucky 3 2 win in the second game of the season, with dodgy pen given to us. (Blackburn/West Ham)

I think communication has been a genuine problem with some recent managers. The “word salad” post match interviews of the last two stand out. A point that has not come up is that communicating well in English must benefit the whole squad. Although many don’t have English as their first language, it’s more likely to be their second language than whatever the manager’s native tongue happens to be. I wouldn’t like to have to try to work out what point Pellegrino was trying to make if English wasn’t my first language! All the best managers in England are both foreign and great at communicating in English. As for suggesting that requesting a manager be able to communicate in English is racist - sacre bleu.

I’m enjoying going to games again. I’ve even started enjoying the Manager’s press conferences. Hughes is a breath of fresh air. Great attacking play today. And we’ve now given ourselves a good chance. Sign him up.

I think we’ve played much better under Hughes. He is a huge upgrade on that previous joker. We can win tomorrow and if we do it really is game on. I think the bookies have got it about right - currently about 30pc chance of staying up.
