How to manage austerity in a caring society
Whitey Grandad replied to badgerx16's topic in The Lounge
Too right it's serious. Using the NHS doesn't make you any wealthier and the value of your own home is totally irrelevant. Any savings you migh have are eroded by inflation in order to reduce the government's debt. As for the highlighted part, the value of living in a home that you have bought and paid for has not changed. It's still the same home. Pensions are index-linked but they are not tax-free and they have been paid for by a lifetime of contributions. As I said, I don't see any wealth amongst the old. -

That's rubbish. Where is all this wealth? I can't see any. With interest rates at virtually zero for the last few years the wealth has been going the other way. -
Already gone. Gerrard joined LA Galaxy in July.

Sounds like a team-building exercise for those not on international calls. A mini break with a change of scenery.

It might actually be true. How can they call Anfield intimidating when as that photo shows there's hardly anybody in it
-
And Chelsea soon

It's his ball, why should he? The petulant little ****

Whats been our best result since being promoted?
Whitey Grandad replied to CumbrianSaint's topic in The Saints
Well put. I'm still in shock to appreciate it properly. -
If we're safe by January then we'll need him for our push for the title
-
Yes indeed, that would be good. Incidentally, five years is the maximum length of contract.
-
Very good but not the best. As for the free-kick goal yesterday, if he'd stayed on his line and somebody ended up with a free header we'd have been giving him some stick for it. It was a superbly taken kick, or a fluke, whichever you prefer.

Post-Match Reaction: Chelsea 1-3 SAINTS
Whitey Grandad replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Thankfully the gods of football don't like that sort of think. Mere mortals shouldn't try and interfere with their plans. -
I think the problems with Chelsea is that everything is about Mourinho and his ego.
-
Thanks for the suggestion Of course I'm rich enough to have several of them in my own private box although at my age they'd have to start the day before and might not be finished by the time the next match started.
-
Big crowd, to be fair, bigger than a lot in the Championship.
-
You'd take that every week. He took his goal beautifully and I'm still not sure which was the better strike, his or Davis's. Davis hadn't scored for ages and I'm sure it must have been preying on his mind but Graziano had enough time to over-think what he was going to do yet with one quick glance struck the ball with perfect confidence.

Post-Match Reaction: Chelsea 1-3 SAINTS

Great fun thanks. Most of us can remember when Chelsea were just another also-ran. These youngsters have been spoilt. That's what too much money and overhyping can do to you. -
I miss the marching band at half time, Basing Band or something wasn't it! That and the buxom girls giving demonstrations of judo.
-
Yep, that's him. Seriously, looking at it objectively, what have you got against his performance? If we played them there again next week would your u want somebody else?
-
Agreed. Something is obviously wrong throughout the team and it would do take somebody really special to turn this round. I don't think it's him.
-
I think you're making a meal out of nothing. What does it matter what he did with his whistle just as long as he didn't blow it? It's an automatic reaction to start to raise your whistle in anticipation of a foul which may not actually materialise. Surely it's better then to hesitate before making your final decision. And what was wrong with checking the position of the ball at the corner? It only took a couple of moments and it was his responsibility as it was the opposite corner to his two assistants. He won't be the first to miss a shirt being pulled at a corner and in these circumstances you would look to more help from your assistants although normally they would be reluctant to make such a significant decision from the touchline. He was ok.
-
Why would you want to do that?
-
It means he's worth more when we sell him.
