Got to be patient. This was always going to be tricky

Yes, let's worry about abusing him after his team have been shown up on the football pitch

Anyone else think we could be on the verge of something special?

We still need that points swing over teams above us though. It would mean actually beating teams like Spurs as well as winning the majority of home games against the likes of Stoke and Sunderland. We failed to do any of this last season. I have a feeling Everton won't do as well, their defence has been suspect. The main issue for me is that the transition from being best of the rest to top 4-6 needs to happen quick. We'd need to keep Morgan, Clyne, J-Rod etc. and add quality over a couple of seasons. As I've said before, unlikely but not impossible. But we might as well enjoy it and dream about what might happen. It's very early days, let's stay grounded as a defeat tomorrow and all of a sudden things won't be so good -

We are on the verge, but then we were this time last season too. I think the real test now is whether we can win games against the top 6 or 7 sides, as our record against them last season was poor. Ultimately, we could end up hitting that glass ceiling again, would need to finish above say Everton and Spurs to try and break through it. Unlikely, but not impossible. -
Exactly, if we'd started poorly this season we might be wondering what if. We look a more exciting team now. Not trying to be critical, but the counter attacks are a lot quicker without having Rickie drifting in field. Now we have Pelle leading the line well with the others playing off him and it's working well. Our options are now better all over the pitch.
-
At least he's achieved his dream of captaining his boyhood club on another magical Anfield night in the capital one cup.
-
Looked solid last night, very comfortable on the ball and has a presence about him. Getting him and Toby in is a definite upgrade on Lovren and Jos as CB options.
-
I'd start with Long and keep Mane on the bench. Gardos deserves to stay in the 11 ahead of Toby as well. Mane will certainly excite and make things happen for us, but will equally frustrate the fans. He ran himself into the ground last night so I'd save him for later in the game.
-
Not surprising their record playing at SMS when we had the likes of Jermaine Wright and Darren Powell scoring the goals! Make no mistake, this will be one of our biggest tests. They're **** with an ageing defence but will look to make things difficult for us. Think Pelle will be the key man so we need a big performance from him. We need to be patient, but RoKo has shown his ability to change things. 1-0 Saints in a scrappy game
-
What a game, strangely expected us to win. Regardless of who we might draw, we'll be more than a match for anyone. Koeman has showed he's taking it seriously, we really can go far in this competition
-
He's going to be frustrating at times for sure, but definitely a handful for any team. Good first half, need another to kill off the game, Wenger won't want to keep the likes of Sanchez and Wilshere on the pitch for the entire game. The pressing has been top notch, and the counter attacking is a lot swifter

Martin Samuel p*sses in our pool again.....
Saint_Tony replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
He's pretty much stating the obvious, that if we repeatedly sell on players then eventually things will fall apart. As for Ward Prowse 'pulling the strings' against Liverpool, that's just a lazy assumption that all out academy products are good enough to be sold on for big fees -
At least we're higher than Liverpool will ever be this season. Great result, and finally our central midfielders are getting goals. Early days, but I'm very impressed with Koeman, looks like he might be able to get more out of the players than Pochettino. Bring on the Arsenal game, if RoKo takes it seriously we have every chance of winning
-
Looking like a 0-0. Decent enough result despite the circumstances
-
Yes. Swansea are a good side, and beating 10 men is never a given. In the big scheme of things, we've started well enough and will win plenty of other games. It would be disappointing to lose but no disaster. Would rather see is give Arsenal a beating on tuesday.
-
Definite red. Not been a great first half, but at least we know we have a manager capable of changing things around. Bony is their main threat, a defeat now would be unacceptable
-
Ok. Goal for Saints coming soon, 25 yard free kick by JWP, the dead ball specialist
-
Amazed that JWP is playing with Big Vic on the bench, this is the sort of game we need Wanyama playing in. Swansea goal coming soon
-
Ron said his work permit is sorted and he should be in the squad for the Arsenal game on tuesday
-
Where's Toby? Line up looks very weak with JWP and Yoshida in, would be very surprised to get anything from the game. 3-1 Swansea
-
Rickie will regret moving, even with Sturridge out yesterday he only came off the bench. He'll only get a chance to shine in the domestic cups. We've moved on quickly anyway. Depending on J Rod and Morgan leaving I'd like to think there will only be a need for minimal activity in the January window.
-
Great result, annoyed by final score only talking about how poor Newcastle were though. To think we are without the goals of 3 players (J rod to come back), to see us score 7 in 2 PL games is incredible. All capped off by MP failing to win against Sunderland yet again

Has everyone forgotten about Florin Gardos?
Saint_Tony replied to SaintJackoInHurworth's topic in The Saints
You'd imagine he's back up, but it's good we have competition at CB. Toby will be cover for Clyne too, so Gardos is bound to get plenty of opportunities -
Good point. Perhaps it was risky strategy.to have a clear out first, but maybe that was the plan to give a clearer picture of how many we needed to bring in. As I said at the time of his appointment, RoKo must have been aware of who was leaving but must have also been promised extensive funds to rebuild a side, what manager would turn down such an opportunity?

Don't think it's fair to call out the supposed trolls and bedwetters. The sale of Chambers was the tipping point for a lot of people. Personally I thought it was a great deal for us, so it was no surprise the deal went through a lot quicker than others. At that moment the squad was in a worrying state. Thankfully that's all changed, fair play to Ralph and Les for (finally!) sticking to their word. We've also seen the ever growing influence of Koeman over the last few weeks, he's got a great opportunity now to be a massive success. Just a shame we have an International break already as I for one am looking forward to seeing us play
