Another 'war' series from HBO, documenting the 1st Recon Batt. USMC from Kuwait right through the first 40 days of the 2003 invasion in Iraq. Thoroughly absorbing viewing and whilst the americans might get up some people's noses, you can almost imagine similar characters being involved in any of the Allied forces. For me, not only was it a well made and interesting series, it was also very, very funny. The characters in it are great and well defined and give you plenty of chuckles along the way, despite the perilous situations they find themselves in..... and Sgt. Josh Ray Person.... LMAO Recommended.

Of course, I think he'd becoming up his 121st birthday if he were around now :-o It's true, they were a completely mental bunch. Apparently the Fourth Reich live under Antartica now with the indigenous people of the Hanabu I also read a little bit about their (alleged) interests in creating a 'super solider' - part inspired by COD WAW, Dead Snow another Nazi zombie film and my own warped interests. Couldn't find much other than the 'Hartecks' virus on Nazi experiments, though the Soviets did attempt a few weird things with captured scientists during the war (bringing a dogs head back to life etc :-o) Of course, its most likely a load of all guff but fascinating to read when you've got a bit of time to kill..

I've been spending my lunch reading conspiracy theories and one which caught my particular eye was that Hitler had faked his own death and had in fact escaped Berlin as the Allied noose started to tighten. The earliest reports of Hitler going into hiding was in 1943, though many believe he did so between 1944-1945 and some time before Berlin fell. Many different theories abound to Hitler's whereabouts after the war, assuming he survived - but one of the most interesting was a purpose-built Berchtesgaden in Antartica. Allegedly the Nazi had been seizing and developing machines to build 'The Fuhrer' a new retreat and in 1944-45, Hitler moved to a state-of-art home in Antartica reminiscent of his previous Berchtesgaden to live out his days in exile and peace. http://www.think-aboutit.com/Omega/files/omega18.htm It wasn't just about the Fuhrer though - the Nazi's allegedly built an 'empire under the earth' in the antartic which could house up to 2m people. Even more unbelievable, Hitler's escape from the British special forces saw them enlist the help of UFO's (Nazi flying discs) to down and defeat the forces chasing Hitler on run to his new home. Even more (tragically) unbelievable is the notion that the Nazi's had made some form of 'pact' or 'agreement' with the current, below surface inhabitants of Antartica :-o Another popular theory was that Hitler escaped to South America, possibly either Argentina or Brazil. One interesting idea was that he moved to a small Argentinian town called Bariloche, some 750km from Buenos Aires and once more, reminscent of his own Berchtesgaden back in Europe. http://www.barilochenazi.com.ar/english/introduction.htm The argentines themselves were, at that time, sympathetic to Nazi idelogy (I believe) but would they have gone to these lengths to have hidden an the world's most wanted man? Theory seems to favour that Hitler wanted to spend the rest of his days in a place that reminded him his favourite retreat... but is this plausible, really? The Soviets have never given up any of the supposed remains of Hitler for DNA and there are many people who believe the grainy images of his corpse were nothing but a body double - of which the Sovients found up to four in and around Hitler's death was supposed to have taken place. Anyway... that's the (far-fetched) history lesson over... any takers on either of the subjects/theories?

It's funny how the skates were all billy big boll0(ks when they first issued the petition - denying, admitting, denying and then threatening their own legal action over it. now we're a couple of days away and they're pleading for time...

Permission granted, thanks for all the positive comments. If I get time, you might see the next edition - a very special 'who wants to be a millionaire?' ;-)

Oh, I forgot, my other grandfather! He was a kid during WWII and would always recall walking down a stoney path somewhere in Soton and hearing the props of a Messcherschmit (goddamn sp?) behind him. He looked behind and sure enough there was an ME-109 bearing down on him... he took off just as the plane started firing at him and always remembered 2 things: 1. The bullets whipping and pinging around him off the gravel and branches snapping and cracking as he ran to safety. 2. Crapping his pants :-(

Blackburn fan killed - by another Blackburn fan
Crab Lungs replied to Saint_clark's topic in The Lounge
****ing hell, Blackburn's fans are right tw4ts... Rioting and throwing debris at Allardyce because they're like, er, 14th in Premier League. :S -
Cheers Ames... and in answer to your question, my grandfather served in Burma not long after WWII. He was 17 or 18 if I remember correctly. He'd always tell me stories about it when I was younger... about the jungle, the conflicts... probably not appropriate and whilst he felt he had to gloss it over for me, I persisted that he tell me all the gory details. He never really did though.

Big LOL at all the Skates frothing at the mouth at the prospect of having a billionaire owner. Seriously... do they believe this? It's Storrie-teller on a windup again, pretending to be darting round the world meeting billionaires and become their 'saviour' - that said, its also convenient for these stories to exist so that they can use this in court to substantiate their ongoing existence. I hope the courts ignore this bull**** and look at the facts. They couldn't afford 2k for a website. They couldn't afford 2k for the caterers. They couldn't afford to pay the stadium announcer. That to me, says they are ****ed. However.. still find the cash to fly to Manchester though? That to me says they are immoral. I just hope they hang on until Saturday, we thump the last nail in their coffin and then they implode. Nasty club ruined by nasty, selfish, greedy businessmen.

The dyanimics of League One will change so much during the course of this season and the close-season so it's hard to say whether we will be front-runners for L1 next season. Not only will relegated Championship clubs look to strengthen and adjust their squads for an immediate rebound back to the 2nd tier but existing clubs will also do the same - including ourselves. With that in mind, this seasonal turnaround of staff will also effect ourselves. Will we be able to keep Lallana? Schneiderlein? Lambert? I wish I knew the answer to this question, but sadly I do not. I'd like to think the aforementioned players will feel a sense of loyalty and a feeling that they are at a club on the up... but players get itchy feet, just as we are getting itchy and irritated because we haven't progressed as quickly as we'd have hoped. However, it is a necessity that we are among the favourites next season to return to the Championship, irrespective of the squad possibly losing one or two of our most coveted players. It's not a case of whether we will be any more - it's a case we HAVE to be, or face losing ground and immersing ourselves in a rut. I trust ML and NC will not be contented with just another middling year in the backwaters of English football. If we don't sneak in this year we must be among the leaders next year. We must.
-
Our form is just about below average - but what makes it worse is that we are of course, ten points behind everyone else. As I said... the form would be sufferable if we started the season on 0 but because of our seemingly strong squad and the fact we have aspirations of the playoffs - the situation feels worse.

Sponging Champagne Socialist Denham ordered to repay £1,265
Crab Lungs replied to dune's topic in The Lounge
Not really surprised. First time I looked at him I thought 'slimeball' Then I thought... 'no no no, come on Ben, give him a chance' First time I heard him speak I thought 'Yes, definitely a slimeball' Then I thought 'no no, you maybe its because he speaking about something you don't agree with him on' Then the more of him I saw and heard, the more I thought 'slimeball' until I was convinced. And of course, now this. I am not surprised. I used to work for SCC and you'd be disgusted with what they do with the money and what is claimed. Disgusted... but perhaps unsurprised. -
LMAO, that is so true, I overlooked that. Here I am, friday night, cooking chorizo and potatoes in my kitchen, laughing at the skates. It might not seem a great friday night to some, but for me its quite perfect.

Storrie said any purchaser of Pompey would be acquiring a bargain. "It's certainly good value. The club will go for nothing. The new owner would, though, have to take on the debt, and excluding the money owed to Sacha Gaydamak, the debts are down to £25m, and most of those are normal footballing debts." So the football debts that PL said had been sorted are actually £25m? And only £25m? Good value! And of course, the only other debt is Gaydamak at £28m. And Chainrai, at £17m. Sounds a bargain... you wideboy c()nt.

Cortese definitely on the charm offensive. But don't get me wrong - he's doing it not just to prove a point that he is a good person but because he GENUINELY IS ONE.

Band Of Brothers - British miniseries version, ideas?
Crab Lungs replied to Crab Lungs's topic in The Lounge
For the British, wasn't North Africa the biggest arena of conflict? That would make for an incredible series and a really, really interesting one both from a historical and cultural point of view. Like you said, North Africa is often overlooked. I'm sure that many people would have not known about Easy's exploits (however significant and major they were) if that story wasn't chosen for a miniseries either. There is bound to be some amazing stories to come from NA... -
Great, nice one English press and society for actually caring about this over-the-top charade. Terry slips one to Bridge's ex. So what? It's got nothing to do with us or the World Cup - it's a matter for Terry, Bridge and the families concerned. Now we've got the fantastic prospect of re-appointing a captain (and whatever 'Andrew' Cole says "captains aren't that important" I'm ignoring. He's a guy who made a rap video about himself.) Rio Ferdinand 'Accidently' misses a drug test which led to his expulsion from Euro 2004. Thick, devoid of personality, error-prone and a thug (anyone who has watched him for years at United will testify that.) Merked... what a c()nt... Steven Gerrard Talented, yes. Captain material? No. Another thug and is probably the most frustrating to watch as an England fan. Never stays in his position, romping all over the field unbalancing the side in a Roy-Of-The-Rovers style. To be honest, whilst I do appreciate that he's a good footballer I think he's uncontrollable and that is to the detriment to the team. Deliberately poor positional sense but hey, if he beats two defenders or does a backheel that makes him a great player and ideal captain, right? Wayne Rooney England captain material? Honestly? No. Another footballer who has been reputed to be sleeping around and would probably make the worst kind of captain. Someone with obvious passion who puts the effort in and shouts alot - but shouts mostly negative and nonsensical stuff. Frank Lampard Possibly the only candidate, really. He's definitely the guy I'd replace Terry with if I had to (though I wouldn't have replaced Terry in the first place.) Previous experience, workmanlike, passionate and with a bit of nous and know-how.

Steve Bull. Walked around with 'Le Tissier 7' on the back of his shirt... could easily have been mistaken for the great man in his final season
